Wake up to water views at Blue Heron Oar’asis, a three-bedroom, two-bath home for up to eight on the Eau Claire River Flowage. Take your coffee out to the deck and watch for the blue herons that inspired its name—along with bald eagles, ducks, otters and other frequent visitors.

When the weather is warm, launch the included kayaks or canoe right from the backyard. After a day on the water, gather around the riverfront fire pit with firewood provided, or head inside to the gas fireplace. With two living rooms, there’s room to spend time together and space to spread out.

Winter brings its own reasons to visit. Snowshoe or cross-country ski from the backyard when conditions allow, or make the short drive to Granite Peak, Nine Mile and Sylvan Hill. The outdoor hot tub is available as a paid add-on by advance request and approval; winter availability cannot be guaranteed.

EXPLORE THE AREA

Paddle the flowage from the backyard, or bring your own boat and use the public landing approximately one block away. A portage around Schofield Dam is required to continue by paddle craft toward Lake Wausau. The Wausau area also offers fishing, hiking and biking in warmer months, plus skiing, snowshoeing, tubing and ice fishing when winter conditions permit.

Early check-in and late checkout may be available by advance arrangement, depending on the reservation schedule. Please contact me ahead of time to ask.

A starter supply of household essentials is provided, including toilet paper, paper towels, facial tissues, hand soap, dish soap, dishwasher detergent, trash bags and coffee. Guests staying longer may need to purchase additional supplies.

The garage is reserved for owner use and is not accessible to guests.

Turn off the lights, lock the doors and return the keys
Return all borrowed equipment to the shed, lock the shed, and return the shed key to the lockbox.
Turn off all lights, the gas fireplace and grill if used. Set the thermostat to 72°F in summer or 68°F in winter.
Please place all trash in the outdoor trash bins. Close and lock all windows and exterior doors. Start the dishwasher and double-check for personal belongings before leaving.

The home was very nice and had everything we needed. We were a little disappointed to learn that the hot tub was not working. Had we known sooner, we would probably have tried to change our reservations but there wasn't enough time to make that happen.

Originally from Wisconsin, I now split my time between Arizona and the Midwest, but this riverfront home will always have a special place in my heart. I created Blue Heron Oar’asis to be a place where families and friends can slow down, reconnect, and make lasting memories together.

One of my favorite things about the property is watching the sunrise over the Eau Claire River with a cup of coffee in hand. If you’re lucky, you’ll spot bald eagles, great blue herons, pelicans, deer, turtles, and other wildlife right from the backyard. Every season brings something special, from vibrant fall colors and snowy winter mornings to long summer evenings around the fire pit.

As your host, I believe the little details matter. My goal is to provide a clean, comfortable, thoughtfully equipped home where you can truly relax. Whether you’re paddling the river in the kayaks or canoe, fishing from the dock, enjoying a family game night, exploring the Wausau area, or simply unwinding by the water, I hope your stay feels like a true getaway.

I also love sharing my favorite local spots. I’ve created a guidebook with recommendations for restaurants, breweries, wineries, parks, hiking trails, family activities, and a few hidden gems to help you experience the area like a local.
