Very cozy and great location if you want to explore the area. Host was extremely responsive to any question and so easy to book with. Buchanan was a very friendly and welcoming town with a lot of charm. Definitely recommend and would rebook if returning to this part of Virginia.
Everything about this cabin was perfect for my stay. Perfect weekend, all amenities, and learning about the family history was an added bonus.Highly recommend for relaxation
The cabin was well stocked and it was a very comfortable cabin. We enjoyed our stay very much and the host was very accommodating. The cabin really has the charm of an older one. Thanks again for allowing us to stay and enjoy for a week.
Everything was great even the band playing at the tavern near by not so loud that it kept the babies awake but enough that we could sit outside and enjoy it

The cabin is very cozy and clean with lots of nice decor and comfortable furniture, pillows, blankets, beds, etc. The main concern we had initially was when we noticed that the property is not waterfront as the ad indicated.
Nice little cabin, well appointed. Host was very attentive.

The location is good for site seeing and a cute town. The cabin is not a river view at all there is no access to even view the river from the cabin. The owner is very passionate about the house. Over all it was a good experience the house is bigger than ur expected however the pictures on the site for the house is very misleading.
Quaint, historic property that was perfect for our short stay. Well stocked with essential items needed for stay in bathrooms & kitchen. Outdoor seating area and front porch sitting area. Small country store right across the street and very close to downtown restaurants & shopping. Would book again.
The house and town are historic and cute. Swinging bridge within walking distance and leads into the town. 15 min drive from Natural Bridge. 30 min drive from Roanoke.
We enjoyed our visit to Buchanan and this place allowed us to relax and be comfortable. We hope to stay here again.

Quaint
We enjoyed our stay. The cabin was clean and had everything we needed for our short stay.
Stayed here for the Chessie trail marathon. Everything in Lexington is crazy expensive and this place was reasonable and right off the interstate and only about 25 min from Lexington. Cool old cabin, very clean. Not much to do in Buchanan but you aren’t far from Lexington, natural bridge state park an other interesting things. Neighbors dogs are annoying but that’s not the cabin owners fault. Train tracks close by but train doesn’t run after about 9pm so didn’t interfere with sleep. Plenty of parking with a circle driveway. Other houses around are somewhat junkie but nothing unsafe. If I’m ever in the area again would stay at this place.
Very cute cabin in small town. Really enjoyed the short distance to the james river where we were able to fish and float. Lots of restaurants and stores near by to get extra supplies we needed.
The property was completely adequate for our needs. Despite its small size, there was plenty of space for everyone to be comfortable. There were some small repairs that could have been made and some spiderwebs to be cleared. Also the trains running a few hundred feet away were a bit loud. Overall though, we enjoyed our stay and the scenery was lovely.

Fun weekend
Very comfortable and cozy. Had every thing we needed for a 3 day visit to VMI.
We had a great stay at the Squirrel's Nest (thankfully, no sign of them in the house.)
Three bedrooms and two baths were perfect for we three fisherman. Enjoyed the river and the historic town. Highly recommended!
Squirrel's Nest is an absolutely charming cottage in a quaint town. Great location & perfect for our needs. We only stayed a weekend, to attend the Sounds of the Mountains storytelling festival at nearby Camp Bethel. We hope to go back when we can stay longer, to see more of the town & surrounding area.
This is a great cabin in a great location. A very short drive to a beautiful downtown with plenty of food, music, and outdoor venues. This property overlooks the train tracks and the James River, as well as the weekend we stayed there was a civil war re-enactment right across the river that we were able to watch, overall a great property and a great weekend
A charming cottage with everything we needed to be comfortable. The town was welcoming and the area is quite beautiful. The host, Faye, is lovely and very attentive (our TV remote needed batteries and she quickly took care of it😁). We will definitely want to book again.
We stayed in town for a softball tournament and the house was perfect for our group. Home was very clean and comfortable! The guys enjoyed walking down to the river and fishing between games. It was a fun weekend!

About the host
Hosted by Faye Hambrick or Debbie Rickman
My mother purchased this little cabin after extensive renovations were done in 2006. She lived and loved this home and enjoyed showing it off to anyone who wanted to come in and see until her passing in November 2012. Wanting to keep the home in the family we have decided to follow in her memory of sharing this home with others and make it available for others to enjoy. Her name was Shirley and the grandchildren called her grandma Squirrel. Hence the name Squirrels Nest.
What makes this property unique
This home was originally located on the Blue Ridge Parkway and many years ago was moved to its current location by a mule drawn wagon. The home is now on the National Registry of Historic Places.
