We appreciated the clean and new bedding. There were plenty of pillows, blankets, and towels. The kitchen even had basic cooking oil and spices/seasonings to share. The washer and dryer were available with detergent. The outdoor areas had comfortable seating. There was plenty of room and counter space. I appreciated the option of ceiling fans, but I think we needed new batteries because I couldn’t get two of them to work. And I wish the living room seating had another comfy chair. The owners clearly thought through details to provide a comfortable mountain retreat space. It is secluded and quiet.

When they advertise that they recommend a 4x4 they aren't kidding. We love off roading and have a Razor at home. But the roads leading up the the cabin are ridiculous and its sooo far back and we were in a Jeep Renegade. We didn’t stay at all, the heat was off and it was 48 degrees in the cabin, 35 outside. Once we found the gas heater on the wall downstairs we realized that was the only one for the entire cabin. The staircase going upstairs is so steep and has no hand rail at all on the right. I do not recommend any children to stay there. We only got refunded part of our money waiting on the rest.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I’m truly sorry the cabin wasn’t the right fit for you as we want every guest to feel comfortable, and I understand how disappointing it is when a stay doesn’t meet expectations. I did want to clarify a few things for future guests who may read this: • Road conditions: We do recommend a 4x4 or AWD vehicle in the listing, especially during colder months, though many of our neighbors navigate the mountain daily without one. We always try to be upfront about the rustic, private nature of the property so guests know exactly what to expect. • Heat: As soon as you reached out, we responded right away and walked you through turning on the heater. We spend a lot of time at the cabin ourselves — even in winter — and the unit warms the entire space within about 10–15 minutes. I’m sorry it didn’t feel that way when you arrived. • Children & staircase: You mentioned safety concerns for kids, but there were no small children in your group. Our own children and many guests’ kids stay at the cabin regularly without issue. The staircase is original to the home and part of its rustic mountain character, but we understand not everyone prefers that style. While I was messaging back and forth with you, my husband also spoke with the gentleman in your group by phone, and he let us know everything was okay on his end. We always do our best to support guests however they need, whether that’s by phone or message, and we never want anyone to feel unheard or unsupported. Our goal is always transparency about the experience: it’s a rustic mountain cabin with incredible views, seclusion, and nature — not a luxury hotel. For many guests, that’s exactly what they’re looking for; for others, it may not be the right match, and that’s okay. I’m glad we were able to issue a partial refund quickly, and VRBO has their own processing and the remaining portion would be issued per platform guidelines. We genuinely appreciate your feedback and wish you all the best in your future travels.

Kelly and her husband were responsive from the moment we booked to the moment we left the cabin. It was cozy, had plenty of space, had nice decoration, and we felt that we didn't even want to be outside. The kitchen, living room and porch were huge! How nice to have room for my kids to run around. We read our bibles at the table while they played in other areas. The bathroom was also very spacious & stocked with all things we needed. Beds were comfy and having the laundry room is always a plus. Wifi was also great! Fast for being in the mountains. :) Speaking of, the area was absolutely beautiful. What a glorious way to wake up and admire God's creation. Lastly, the roads were a bit rugged, but if you have a larger car (not a sedan), you will be fine driving up. Just dont drive slow so you dont get stuck in the parts with pot holes... Please disregard the first review! That is highly inaccurate. I personally felt it was just fine. The preferable arrival would be daytime so that you could see driving up - but nonetheless, it was a great stay and drive in to the cabin. All was as expected and I will definitely return. Thank you guys for your detail and attention to everything.

About the host

We are from Northern NY originally, moved to Florida but sure loved and missed the mountains and peace of mind we find in the woods. We love hiking, traveling and exploring, and are so excited to share this place with others who enjoy the same.

Why they chose this property

We chose this property because of the elevation, views, seclusion and proximity to so many fun activities like boating, hiking, kayaking, dining, antiquing, and wineries!

What makes this property unique

The mountain view, the amount of usable land on on the mountain, the enclosed porch, the full kitchen and the seclusion are what makes Sky Island stand out.
