Dirty old carpet full of stains. Uncomfortable mattresses. Uncomfortable sofa. Dangerous stair case in the middle of living room.
Good kitchen appliances. Old towels. Good shampoo and conditioner. Very noisy location. Old windows. Old blinds. Not a comfortable place to stay in with this price.

As the vast majority or our reviews are extremely positive, we rarely have a need to interject our thoughts, but in this case it is seems to be warranted. All of our beds have memory foam mattresses and our guests typically rave about the comfort they experience. The rugs and not old and are professionally cleaned on a regular basis. One of the mini blinds was apparently broken by the previous Guest, but has been replaced. This is a designated historical property built in the 1880's that was painstakingly renovated with every window having been restored and functioning properly. The spiral staircase to the loft is not located in the middle of the living room as can bee seen in pictures provided. We would suggest prospective Guests read the many positive reviews received from countless Guests over the course of the last 8 years who stayed at our property and sincerely appreciated the experience.
We celebrated the last weekend before "back to school" with a trip from the East Coast to San Diego (Red Sox might have been involved too!). This apartment fit the bill - good location, very comfortable, and an accommodating owner. It's smaller than it looks in the photos, and the spiral staircase would be difficult to navigate for some. This is the middle of a big city, so be prepared for it to be a little loud. The neighborhood - while walking distance to Petco and the Gaslamp - is a bit rough in places so walking not recommended at night. But it was comfortable and worked perfectly for us. The owner responded very quickly to the one maintenance issue we had, which was very much appreciated and the guests in the other apartments seemed very nice as well.

Our property is located in a designated historic district on the slope above Downtown San Diego. Due to its proximity to the city and the architectural uniqueness of the homes, the area is now extremely expensive. In the 25 plus years we have owned our property we have never experienced a crime related incident of any kind. The area is very safe and our 3 young boys love staying at the property.

Tired
First the good. This was in a location close to town and it was simple to get to all of the areas. Parking was always available and the grounds of the actual unit were in very nice shape. There was an area to keep my bike rental and onsite laundry was useful. Also, the owners were very attentive and fixed a broken smoke alarm immediately when asked.
Now the not so good. The neighborhood looks to be going through some changes and while I never felt unsafe, there is a sizable homeless population in the area (tents pitched on the sidewalks nearby). The streets and sidewalks in this area are pretty grimy and the unit we stayed in needs a little TLC. The unit felt tired and needs a deep clean. I am sure these units get a lot of use and it is just due for some maintenance. If it was just me I would probably stay here again but my wife would probably want to skip it and pay a bit more to stay in a different neighborhood.

As the vast majority of our reviews are extremely positive, there is rarely a need to interject our thoughts, but in this case it is warranted. We work extremely hard to respond to every request made by our Guests and maintain our units in impeccable condition. We have owned this property for over 23 years and in that time we have not experienced 1 incident of crime. We are located above a major city and like all major cities in America San Diego has its share of homeless individuals. Actual incidents of a homeless people in proximity to our property is fairly rare and a quick glance at the experiences of the vast majority of our guests convey nothing but positive experiences. My young children have been at our property countless times over the years and we have never felt unsafe in any way at any time.

good location, but not quite as glamorous and spacious as pictures suggest
Happy with location and overall experience we were three people visiting in Feb and for that it was great. 6 people would be really pushing it and, to be clear, there is only one proper bedroom plus a loft bedroom, so not 3 bedrooms as advertised. The sofa bed was not very comfortable as a sofa and it was remarkable we did not knock our heads on the loft stairs which really intrudes into the living space. One thing to be aware of is that the Fire Station is just around the corner so there is a LOT of siren noises especially in the evening, but luckily after 10 it seemed to quieten down. It would not seem appropriate at all for Unit 2 to avail of the table and chairs on the verandah as this seems to belong to Unit 4 or other Unit owners. The bbq was very unappetising and had obviously not been cleaned for a while. The outdoor space and appearance all felt a little tired and shabby compared to the photos. We really enjoyed the complimentary Netflix. The kitchen was adequately furnished, but we had to buy our own baking equipment. The bed in the main bedroom felt like it was on a bit of a slope and not as comfortable as some. I don't think it is entirely true to say that the linen is the best quality available, but it's OK. The shower operation is a challenge to figure out and very stiff to operate but fine once you've worked it all out.
The owner was very approachable and helpful and gave some useful tips for us on sight seeing. Overall fair value and a good experience if a little disappointing compared to the description.

We work very hard in terms ensuring we maintain the highest standards on behalf of our guests and our many 5 star reviews we believe are the best testaments to those efforts. While we respect that every guest is entitled to their views and opinions, it is difficult to embrace a review in which virtually everything seemed unacceptable. This guest requested an earlier check-in, as well as a later check-out and additionally asked that a package be delivered to our home on his behalf. Every effort was made to accommodate these requests and his package was personally delivered to his unit upon his arrival. There is no fire station located within a mile of our property and this unit is not presented as having 3 bedrooms. In the nearly 3 years we have had the pleasure of offering our property as a vacation rental we have never found the need to respond to a review presented by a guest, but this exception was one we felt compelled and justified in making.
Nice place. The bus stop directly across the street made access to public transport very easy. Great food options nearby & a quick, easy ride to multiple points of interest.
We found the Kennedy House to be perfect for our girls weekend. Check in and check out was amazing!

San Diego Family VAc
The property had adequate listings as far as sleeping accomodations are concerned. Worked perfectly as far as having a family and needing sleeping for 6, refridgerator, kitchen, extra bedding/linens, and laundry available. Great view of downtown San Diego. A lot of homeless / transient traffic in the immediate neighborhood. Great mexican food nearby. Relatively close to grocery stores and the buzz of downtown. Building is a victorian charm but definitely needs some cosmetic upgrades throughout. Host is good at communicating!
I love the city (cities in general and SD specifically) and this apartment was perfect for us. Great location (#3 & #5 bus stops right there on corner), street parking looks crowded sometimes but we always found a spot. Jack in the Box is a 45 second WALK up the street (if you walk fast like me.) Taco place across the street from them. Host was always available, whenever I called (only twice.) We walked every day around the neighborhood and it was great. Easy access to I-5 North and CA94 East, Wonderful visit. We stay there again if we visit SD.
This is a quaint, little spot that has lots of character and was perfect for our quick visit to SD. The beds are comfortable and the property was clean, two things that important to us!
We would happily stay here again. Thank you for having us🙂
The owner was nice and receptive. The place was clean and kept up. The off street parking was questionable at times with finding a spot and the homeless. Market St was very loud alot of the time. What was nice was that we were close to alot of highways and popular places to go to, plus the airport.

We always attempt to connect with our Guests within 24 hours of their arrival to ensure they are comfortable and have all they need to enjoy their stay with us as was done in this case. Had we received a response, they would have been informed that there are not only 2 A/C's in the unit, but a whole house fan which is very effective in keeping the unit comfortable in the rare times it is needed. Our property is additionally highly upgraded so we would suggest an overview of the many reviews received from previous Guests who thoroughly enjoyed their stays with us.

The unit was just right for my family. It provided all the necessary amenities and the location to everything was ideal. My kids loved the loft which gave them privacy and personal space. John was very responsive and checked in with us to see if we were enjoying our stay and if there was anything we needed. The unit is smaller than how it looks in the photos but we liked that cozy feeling.
There is only street parking but it was not an issue to find a spot within a block away. If you are a light sleeper, the unit is on a busy road and you will hear everything from people walking by to sirens passing through the streets. There were quite a few homeless people in the area with some rummaging through the trash cans but they minded their own business.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and the location to everything was a bonus.
Property Manager was Excellent, Property was Great
Communication with the property manager was excellent. Very quick to reply. Property was exactly what we needed. Homeless in the neighborhood was a little questionable, but this is San Diego.
I stayed here for 5 days with 3 teenagers. It was nice to have space to spread out and not have to sleep in the same room with each other. Everyone said that they much preferred staying here than at a hotel. The property was in a great location - about 1 mile to Gas Lamp and PetCo Park. We were able to walk to the the Padres game - it is about a mile downhill and a mile back up it. It was also close to I-5 which made it very easy to get to other attractions - only 10 minute drive to Coronado, Sea World, Zoo, Old Town. Parking was on the street and we did have to park a few times around the block- but it was an easy 2-3 minute walk. There were a few homeless people down the street that we saw while walking to and from downtown but they didn't bother anyone. It is on a busy road in a big city so you will hear traffic. We really enjoyed our stay. Beds were comfortable and unit was clean.
My family of 5 enjoyed our stay in Unit#4. The place was very clean and we had everything necessary to keep us comfortable. It was a pretty warm week when we visited but the unit was nice and airy once we opened the windows in the living area and bedroom. The unit also provided other things that we were able to enjoy such as two portable chairs and a boogie board. There’s also complimentary sugar and coffee grounds which was very appreciated since we arrived late in the evening and didn’t have time to stop at the grocery store before heading to the home. My husband and I were able to wake up and enjoy freshly brewed coffee in the morning. We didn’t require much from the owner since we didn’t run into any issues but he was very nice and did checkin with us the second day just to make sure we were ok. If I had any complaints at all, which is no fault of the owner, one of the neighbor is very loud and can be heard late in the night arguing so we had to sleep with the windows closed every night since I’m a light sleeper. Also, the street parking was a little challenging some nights but overall, still a good and comfortable stay.
This is a very nice unit, we liked it a lot and will definitely stay here again, though it’s not as perfect as it looks in the pictures, but it is a cozy and enjoyable place to stay. John (the owner) is a great host, responded to my messages in a timely manner and took care of an issue with the main entrance door. I want to say that the only issue we had was the parking, there’s no private parking available, we had to park about a block or so away a few times during our stay and the best thing in this unit was the shower, I love it!! Thank you, John!
We rented this property for a weekend get together and it was a nice place to kick back and relax. The kitchen is small and not meant for gourmet meals, but is adequately equipped with nice and well maintained appliances. The loft area is small and can be warm unless you use the fan and a/c which is a little noisy. It is located near but (in my opinion) not walking distance to entertainment and dining venues.

About the host
Hosted by John Reardon
I grew up in Northampton Massachusetts, a town with countless beautiful old homes and lots of woods. I spent countless days in my youth building tree forts never knowing that those 2 dynamics would intersect at this point. Upon arriving in San Diego with an interest in building and purchasing real estate, I became immediately interested in the largely neglected Victorian buildings in this area of town. This property became a labor of love for me many years ago and I hope that legacy will be carried forward by my 3 sons. My wife if Japanese, so our family often divides our time between 2 very different worlds, both with much to offer.
Why they chose this property
It is our hope that our guests will appreciate the attention to detail and uniqueness of design that has been incorporated into every aspect of this property.
What makes this property unique
This property is strategically located close to most of San Diego's most popular destinations. It's central location and proximity to a newly revitalized downtown, airport, beaches and parks affords our guests the best possible experience while visiting San Diego.
