About the host
Hosted by BRIAN AZZOPARDI
I'm an English Born cinematographer based in Malta. My love for travel has led me to film in over 50 countries and over 120 exotic locations.
We visited Sri Lanka first in 2012 and fell in love with the beautiful unspoilt landscape and the warmth of the Sri Lankan people. Needless to say I jumped at the opportunity to build my own home in a magical tranquil tropical garden, facing sunrise and only 5 minutes away from Mirissa Beach.
We use this wonderful home as a base when we are travelling in Asia and offer it for rental to like minded families that are looking for that extra bit of luxury & comfort and above all the cleanliness and hygiene standards we're used to for ourselves and specially for our young children.
We travel with my young son and for those that have travelled in Asia before will know where I'm coming from. Not spicy mum please! It’s reassuring to know we can prepare some ‘home cooking’ for our son in our modern equipped kitchen. When we opt to dine out we’re only a few minutes away from many popular restaurants.
I'm looking forward to being your host and being available to answer any queries or for any advise, leading and after your stay at our home.

Why they chose this property
The neighborhood
Bryan’s home is located in Mirissa, Southern Province, Sri Lanka. Set in a peaceful location yet close to all amenities and the beautiful Mirissa Beach. The area is rich with wild life and surrounded by fertile cinnamon and rice fields.. Expect to see chipmunks, monkeys swinging on trees, mongooses, peacocks, porcupines and an array of exotic birds and that's just in the garden.
MIRISSA IS A GREAT AREA TO BASE YOURSELF FOR EXPLORING THE SURROUNDING ARAES.
It's unlikely that you will get bored in MIRISSA but if you suddenly get that urge to venture further and explore it's actually an excellent location to be based in ! You can visit a variety of beaches close by all within15 - 60 min driving time such as Midigama & Unawatuna.
Learn to surf in 10 mins by bus
Heading back in the direction of Colombo you will find the small fishing town and railway hub of Welligama . It's a 10 minutes bus ride ( 4 KM ) and getting lost in the back streets of this small market town can be fun . Take a stroll along the sea front and watch the fishermen dragging their boats up on shore or selling their fish in their small stalls lining the beach. Weligama Beach with it's gentle and constant waves make it an ideal beach to learn to surf.
45 mins by bus
Galle has one of the most beautiful old Dutch / Portugese forts in all of South East Asia. It is a port town and there is a thriving neighbourhood with the fort walls . Once inside you can walk around the old fort and get lost amongst all the small streets. Grab something to eat or quench your thirst with a orange coloured King Coconut and sit on the old walls and look out over the ocean. There's some excellent upmarket eateries within the Fort Area and the newly renovated Dutch Hospital.

What makes this property unique
MIRISSA BEACH ...Lonely Planet describes Mirissa as follows...Crack open a coconut, slip into a hammock and rock gently in the breeze, allowing the hours, days and even weeks to slip calmly by. Welcome to sleepy Mirissa, a place so idyllic that only a fool would ever want to leave. This sandy tropical beach boasts some of Sri Lanka's best and most stunning sunsets and sunrises.
BLUE WHALE WATCHING... Mirissa is perfectly placed for whale-watching expeditions, thanks to it's proximity to the world's great cetacean migratory routes. With sightings of these majestic creatures almost guaranteed for large parts of the year, there's a high possibility of seeing Bryde's whales, Killer whales, Sperm whales and Blue whales (as well as spinner dolphins) on a single trip. December to April being the best months.
TURTLES ON MIRISSA BEACH ... Sri Lanka is home to five kinds of turtle's species including Green turtles, Leatherbacks, Olive Ridleys, Hawksbills and Loggerheads all of who regularly visit Mirissa Beach to lay their eggs and build their nests. Situated on the beach you'll find The Coast Guard Turtle Conservation Project with the purpose of preserving and raising the awareness of sea turtle conservation. The coast guards move the eggs to safer areas and once they hatch visitors are invited to release the baby turtles back into the sea at sunset time .
LAKE GARADUWA & NILWALA RIVER ...Mirissa is not all about the beach, there is so much more to explore. If you're a wildlife lover take a trip on Lake Garaduwa or the Nilwala River. Sri Lanka is a birds paradise with more than 420 resident species and it seems that many of them like to visit the lush lake & surrounding mangroves. Photography lovers will enjoy snapping away at exotic birds such as Red-faced Malkoha & Green billed Coucal peacocks, woodpeckers & electric blue Kingfishers to name a few.
