The check-in process was clear and easy. The house and was spacious, though sheets were thrown haphazardly on beds and some items in the kitchen were unkempt. There is a 3rd bedroom listed that is in the basement, but there is a strong mildew/musty odor, so we didn't use it. When I asked if there was a hairdryer in the house, we didn't receive a reply and had to purchase one. It snowed lightly 3 nights in a row, totaling 5 inches, and no one came to clean the driveway. Lastly, there was a faceless cloaked sculpture in the corner of the living room which was frightening. The house is across the road from Owen Conservation Park, which was very nice for hikes, and the location worked well for what we needed.

The host was attentive. The bathroom on the main floor and the second-floor hallway smelled like pee so one of us had to scrub to get the smell out. They said it was a three bedroom but one of the bedrooms was in the basement and not even a legal bedroom so no one wanted to stay down in the basement. Dirty refrigerator. Basement door wasn't locked when we got there. Doors to screened in porch could not be locked so we didn't feel safe.

I love being a host for this house while I travel for work or visit family. The unique environment and architecture means it should not go empty!

Why they chose this property

This neighborhood is tucked away in the woods, while being only a few miles from downtown Madison and downtown Middleton. It is walkable to the Oakcrest and Nitty Gritty bars but also across the street from Owen Park.

What makes this property unique

There are stained glass windows in the “grand room” and original cabinets, floors, and fixtures from the 50s and 60s. This is a very retro house and the decor that has been added is abstract and with haunting beauty.
