From there french doors open to a large dining room with a lounge area connecting to the kitchen. The kitchen is fully equipped with high-tech appliances, as well as coffee and tea and all of the essentials you would need to cook a meal.
This home has 2 bedrooms, each with a queen bed and spacious closet for storage. For those who like to sleep in, there are black-out curtains in both bedrooms. For easy device charging there are touch-lamps with USB-C and regular USB ports on both sides of each queen bed. The home has one full bathroom with a shower/tub. Shampoo, conditioner and body wash are all provided.
Towards the back of the house is the laundry room that has a stacked washer & dryer, laundry soap, ironing board, iron, trash and recycling container.
About the permaculture yard:
The 1/3-acre expansive permaculture garden began in 2021 as a passion project by the owner, Melissa, who designed the space to support wildlife, restore the local ecosystem, and create a peaceful refuge for guests and pets alike. The property is graced by majestic old growth willow oaks that provide shade and shelter, creating a serene canopy for the garden below. Guests can enjoy bird watching at their leisure, as a wide array of bird species visit the feeder to feast throughout the day. Butterflies — including monarchs — flutter gracefully among the flowering plants, adding to the tranquil atmosphere.
The landscape features an abundance of food-bearing and native species — like figs, elderberries, strawberries, mulberries, and persimmon — that you're welcome to enjoy when in season. Whether you’re sipping coffee in the screened gazebo, watching your dog explore the yard off-leash, or simply soaking in the quiet beauty of this rare urban green space, this home offers a truly special kind of stay — private, peaceful, and full of natural wonder.

About the host
Your host
Hello! A little bit about me -- I was born in Mumbai, India and I grew up in Madison, Wisconsin. I'm a wildlife documentary filmmaker, and my life’s work is dedicated to understanding and protecting the planet. That same love for the natural world is woven into every part of this space, from the garden to the quiet corners meant for slowing down. Hosting allows me to share a little of that connection with guests and offer a place where you can unwind and feel closer to nature.
Why they chose this property
This neighborhood has a quiet, timeless charm. The small homes set on generous lots and surrounded by towering old trees make it feel like a rare pocket of calm in the city. Finding a property this large, showcasing a 100-year-old willow oak, felt extraordinary. It truly is a special place to be.
What makes this property unique
This property is unique because it blends generous outdoor space with refined, intentional design. The expansive yard, shaded gazebo, and vibrant permaculture garden offer guests an immersive connection to nature. Indoors, the thoughtfully crafted interior provides a warm, elevated retreat. Set in a quiet neighborhood with mature trees and wide-open lots, the home feels like a hidden sanctuary, distinct from anything else in the city.
