About Joy, Property Representative
We purchased this property while my son attended Northwestern State University. He wanted to live near campus and this duplex home was perfectly located within a short commute. The attached fully equipped extra unit allowed for the design of a guest suite apartment. He has graduated, and we now consider this guest suite our family’s vacation retreat, known to us as “The Cabin in the City”. We have worked very hard to make our home comfortable for people to enjoy and use.
Joy, Property Representative purchased this Cabin in 2009
Why Joy, Property Representative chose Natchitoches
Natchitoches is home to Northwestern State University and many locally famed festivals. This historic college town has so much to offer visitors. Arts, Music, and Drama events foster creativity in this lively and active artist community. Many people come here to research their genealogy either at the college library or the Old Courthouse where many records are kept. Natchitoches is known as the 'City of Lights' offering its annual multiple week, 'Christmas Lights' show that dazzle all who attend. Festivals and food delicacies can be enjoyed year-round.
What makes this Cabin unique
This property is unique because it's location is in the heart of the city, within walking distance to the famed Historic Front Street, Cane River, downtown area restaurants, and other locations of interest. The City is celebrating all year long, as it hosts various events and festivals! Every year in November/December, Natchitoches is the 'City of Lights' for the holiday season. Since its beginnings in 1927, the Festival of Lights has grown into Louisiana's premier community based Christmas Celebration. A family celebration, the festival is held annually beginning late in November through early January. Over 150,000 visitors flock to this historic town and are treated to a gigantic parade, star studded live entertainment throughout the day, dozens of food vendors, carnival rides, river cruises, carriage and trolley tours, and a spectacular fireworks show. After which, over 300,000 brightly colored Christmas lights and over 70 huge set pieces light the city along the scenic Cane River Lake. The Christmas Festival of Lights has been listed as a 'Top 100 Events in North America' by the American Bus Association for numerous years and has also been honored as one of the 'Top 20 Events' for December on six occasions by the Southeast Tourism Society. The Natchitoches Christmas Festival of Lights is a partner with the Holiday Trail of Lights. Also, the surrounding area is great for Fishing and water activities. Older home but quaint
Our stay was very relaxing! It’s close to the river walk . We had everything we needed linens , towels , dishes etc . Even a coffee pot and coffee . The home is an older cabin duplex but was comfortable. The neighborhood was very quiet and peaceful. Nice to be close to town without hearing town . It’s the best of both worlds! I’d stay again !
We are so happy that you enjoyed your well deserved break. We thank you for your kind words. We would love to host your stay again and would look forward to your return visit. There is a special Offer for our returning guests! Please visit us again soon.
Clean but could use update
The cabin was clean but because of some water damage the cabin could use some upgrades. The entry door was sticking and lots of peeling wall paper!
We strive to go above and beyond to deliver 5-star guest experiences and maintain our historic property in a clean and orderly fashion. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and thank you for recognizing our cleaning staff's efforts. We appreciate our guests' feedback. The bathroom vinyl wallpaper that you referenced appears to be experiencing shrinkage due to incorrect adhesive used to apply. Corrective actions and continuing updates will occur. We hope that you will consider us again on your return trip to visit to your son's school nearby.
Great location, quaint house, enjoyed our stay.
The house was very comfortable and clean. The location is great! Walking distance to restaurants, shopping, and close to the college. We loved our stay!

Relaxing and homey
Very quiet. Roomy and comfortable. Would have been nicer if there had been a pull out sofa instead of the air mattress.
Thank you for your feedback. It is so nice to receive guest confirmations that this unit is "Very quiet. Roomy and comfortable". This particular unit we had reserved for you, did not have a sofa bed; as requested, we were able to accommodate your request for additional bedding. For additional guests reserved in this unit, we provided a high end market Serta Queen-size air mattress with luxury linens. We are so glad that you felt the cabin was "homey", as we strive to be create a 'best in class' environment for our guests, so we do hope you will stay with us again. For a party larger than 2 guests, please inquire if there is another type available to accommodate your party size.
Kindest regards, Joy
My husband and I decided to get away for our 45th wedding anniversary. He had a desire to see the sports museum so we planned this in August. It was very easy to find and not very far from historic district, restaurants, river, and church. We found the bed very confortable and everything was spotless. The neighborhood is very quiet and the cabin charming. We enjoyed our stay and the hospitality. We even received an anniversary card with a tin bucket filled with goodies. We felt special, Thank you!!
Very Convenient, Clean, and Comfortable
My husband and I found this house to be perfect for our stay while visiting NWSU. The location is ideal for anyone working at/visiting the university--it is just a short, easy walking distance from the school. The location is also ideal for walking to Front Street and dining out in that area. With a park on the other side of the intermittent creek/drainage sluice near the house, it feels almost like one is not in the city so close to everything. This place was perfect for us.....very clean, easy to find, excellent internet connection, and most importantly---quiet. Thank you!

From early Native American Indian inhabitants to the French explorers and priests to the American arrival in the early-1800s, Natchitoches has lived through hundreds of years. They arrived into the United States in 1812 and to this day the Indian, French, Creole, African American and Anglo cultures mix their cultures, traditions, and talents, and yet they remain distinct.
