About this property

Just Off the Beaten Path

Take it easy at this unique and tranquil getaway. 5 minutes from I-70. Enjoy nature in the woods in our cozy, quiet guesthouse. Close to the University of Missouri for events, medical and business travelers, as well as the Katy Trail for cyclists, wineries, and I-70 for the weary traveler needing a quiet rest and relax. Organic coffee/tea to wake up enjoying breathtaking views from your private deck.

The guest apartment is the second floor above the workshop and completely separate from the main house, though the two buildings are relatively close to each other. It's very cozy and a great spot for a couple or a family to share while visiting the area or just passing through on a trip across country. The space is not super large, with only one large room divided into a couple cubbies and a full bathroom. There is a small second level deck that can be enjoyed on nice days as well, so guests can also enjoy sitting among the trees on the deck. Guests are welcome to take a walk around the property or down the tree lined road out in front. It should be noted that although there are two beds, the space is only one large room with separate cubbies for the two beds. There is a full bath for cleaning up and changing privately.

The property is the best of two worlds being very private and surrounded by woods while being located a few minutes off hwy 70 and only 15 minutes from Columbia MO which has plenty of shopping, restaurants and entertainment along with the university and area medical providers. That said, there are no services at our rural exit off hwy 70 and the nearest convenience store is 7 miles away. There are no neon lights or giant advertisements to interfere with the daytime views or the night sky. So grab what you need before you get here, or plan a short trip for anything you may need, because once you get here, you will be off the beaten path.

Considering the rural location, the apartment has a fairly well equiped kitchenette for meal prep. There is a full sink and countertop and a table and chairs. There is a small refrigerator, a microwave, a toaster oven, a dual hotplate, a tea kettle and a coffee pot. There is also a selection of cookware including skillets, sauce pans, a stew pot and utensils. There are plates, bowls, coffee cups, utensils and drinking glasses for 4 people. There is also a can opener, a wine bottle opener and wine glasses. We provide a few bottles of water, a gallon of RO filtered water and coffee, tea and creamer/sweetners for your convenience.

For entertainment, there is a small TV with typical apps and local channels. It is portable and can be moved around to suit your needs. There are also a few games, coloring books, travel guides and other novelties available.

Generally, we will be around home. Our house is right next door to the guest apartment, so you will likely see us out and about and we are nearby if you need anything. We can be reached either by Vrbo messaging or knocking on the front door of the main house.

Note for those biking the Katy trail:
We have had several guests who are thru bikers and have come off the trail on their bikes to stay are our airbnb. While they have been satisfied with the accomodations and value, we want to state clearly that our place is 5 miles from the nearest access points in Rocheport and Huntsdale. (There is no access from Hancock Road despite what some maps show because it is private property.) We are better suited for those who arrive by car/truck and bring their bikes to use the local access points for day trips on the trail. We take our bikes to Rocheport regularly to spend time on the scenic portions of the trail between the Missouri River and bluffs near our home.

Host profile image
Rebecca and I are Christians; devoted to peace, committed to serving others and full of hope. Rebecca is a long time elementary school teacher who teaches English as a second language in our very diverse local school district. I have spent nearly 40 years supporting and serving persons with developmental disabilities. We have two friendly, playful pets living here with us. Zeus, a beautiful, well trained black German Shepard who assures our home is safe and secure, and Bojangles, a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel who isn't terribly useful, but he is really cute and a bit of a clown.
