Our family absolutely loves the North Georgia mountains, and The Stout Cabin has become one of our favorite places to escape, reconnect, and slow down together.

I often joke that I’m a bit of a “mutt” because I moved every couple of years growing up thanks to my father serving in the United States Navy as a submariner. Those experiences helped me appreciate adventure, nature, and the importance of quality time with family. After getting married, my wife and I lived just outside Chattanooga, Tennessee while starting our family before eventually settling just outside Atlanta, Georgia. We now have four boys — including identical twins — all born within about 30 months, so life around our house is wonderfully busy and full of energy.

Because life can move so fast, this cabin has become incredibly special to us. It’s our place to unplug from the hustle of work, responsibilities, and busy schedules. Here, our boys spend hours exploring the creek, catching trout, searching for salamanders and critters, hiking, building memories around the fire, and simply being kids outdoors. Some of our favorite moments are roasting hotdogs and making s’mores by the creekside fireplace, listening to the water flow while relaxing in the evenings, and enjoying peaceful mornings with coffee on the porch.

We truly love sharing this place with others because we know how refreshing and meaningful a mountain getaway can be. Whether you are visiting for adventure, relaxation, family time, or simply a quiet retreat in nature, we hope The Stout Cabin becomes a place where you can create special memories together just like our family has.

Why they chose this property

We chose this area because it offers something that has become harder and harder to find — genuine peace, privacy, and connection to nature.

The cabin sits in one of the most beautiful parts of North Georgia near Turniptown Creek, surrounded by towering trees, mountain scenery, wildlife, and the relaxing sounds of flowing water. One of the things we appreciated most when searching for a property was finding a location without the restrictions and crowded feel that many mountain communities now have. There is no HOA, no crowded tourist development, and no feeling of being packed tightly beside neighboring cabins. Instead, you truly feel immersed in the mountains.

At the same time, we loved that the area still remains accessible and convenient. While it feels private and tucked away, you are still close to everything that makes Ellijay and Blue Ridge so special — incredible apple orchards, wineries, hiking trails, waterfalls, restaurants, shopping, tubing, fishing, and outdoor adventures.

The neighborhood and surrounding area are especially beautiful in the fall when the mountains come alive with vibrant colors and the apple orchards are in full swing. We also love the abundance of wildlife throughout the year. It is common to see deer, wild turkey, birds, and other animals throughout the property and surrounding woods.

For us, this area perfectly balances adventure and relaxation. It is quiet enough to truly recharge, yet close enough to enjoy everything the North Georgia mountains have to offer.

What makes this property unique

What truly makes The Stout Cabin unique is the experience of being immersed in nature while still enjoying comfort, warmth, and connection with the people you came to spend time with.

The property sits directly along beautiful Turniptown Creek with approximately 150 feet of private creek frontage, creating an atmosphere that immediately feels peaceful and restorative. From the moment you arrive, you hear the sound of rushing water flowing throughout the property — whether you are relaxing in the hot tub, sitting beside the outdoor fireplace, swinging in the hammock, or enjoying coffee from the screened porch overlooking the creek.

Unlike many mountain cabins that simply offer a wooded view, this property creates an interactive outdoor experience for both adults and children. Guests can fish for trout directly on the property, explore the creek, enjoy nearby hiking and waterfalls, observe wildlife, grill outdoors, gather around the fire for s’mores, or simply sit back and enjoy the sounds of nature.

The outdoor spaces are what many guests remember most:
• Private hot tub overlooking the creek
• Outdoor wood-burning fireplace beside the water
• Screened porch with peaceful creek views
• Front porch rocking chairs
• Hammock beside the creek
• Gas and charcoal grills
• Easy access to nature and outdoor adventure

Another thing that makes the property special is its versatility. It works equally well for romantic getaways, family vacations, fishing trips, girls weekends, fall foliage trips, and cozy winter escapes.

Most importantly, The Stout Cabin was designed to feel personal and inviting rather than corporate or overly commercialized. Our family genuinely uses and loves this cabin ourselves, and we hope guests feel that warmth and authenticity throughout their stay.
