Everything you could want in a cabin and more. Beautiful river, large fenced yard with a fire pit and chairs, plenty of adult and kids toys. Also a large deck looking out over the stream, grill and a jacuzzi. Our family made great memories.

Lovely cabin in a perfect location
We came to town with five families to explore at Grayson Highlands and ride the Virginia Creeper Trail. This cabin accommodated us all with plenty of room, lots to do, and an ideal location between our two destinations. We had a wonderful stay.

Great place for large family reunions
It was roomier than it appeared in the photos. Great location being close to Grayson Highlands State Park. The stream was perfect for the kids to explore. The kitchen was well- stocked and very workable....for 18 people! The owner was very accommodating and responsive....we would definitely come back!

Perfect for a large gathering!
From ages 9 to 71, we all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Everything we needed to prepare and serve the "traditional Thanksgiving meal. We had been there about 3 years for Thanksgiving and everyone wanted to go back. This time we talked about going in the spring or summer sometime. Thanks to Jim and Barbara for sharing this lovely retreat.

Stayed on the 4th of July weekend found out the day of check in that we couldn't light off legal fireworks (neighbors animals). Put a big damper on the holiday weekend. House was very large and could accommodate a large family. Overall a good time.

Nickolas,
Sorry you couldn't use firecrackers. I guess I should put that request in the cabin rules so renters know ahead of time. Although out in the country, it makes the horses, goats, and cattle jittery and could run into fences in the dark. There are fireworks in West Jefferson though.
Best regards,
Jim
Enjoyed our time with family the first since the pandemic started. Did not have high expectations for amenities as the pictures and descriptions were accurate. However we spent the first night cleaning as the basic cleaning was done but the advertised "deep cleaning " was anything but that - including needing to put the bed covers through the dryer as several were covered in cat hair. Great spot to bond, just be prepared to need to clean.
This was the second year we stayed at this property. Last year we enjoyed the hot tub because the weekend was cool and rainy and we couldn’t get outside much. This year, we were able to take advantage of the fire pit and the kids played in the creek behind the house. This roomy house has multiple gathering areas along with cozy quieter areas to relax away from the group. We love the screened porch and the kitchen is well equipped with everything you need to cook for a large group. If you walk out the front door you can watch the cows moving around on the mountain. Extra bonus: it is just a few miles from Grayson Highland park where you can picnic, hike and maybe if you’re lucky, see the group of wild ponies that roam there. We love this place!! Only bad thing about it is having to leave!

Great space for a large group
First things first: the location of this property is fantastic! Helton Creek runs alongside the backyard and there's a gorgeous pasture with cows, goats, and horses across the road. You're less than 30 minutes way from Grayson Highlands/Mt. Rogers, and there are plenty of other outdoor recreation opportunities just a short drive away. The house itself is quite large; we rented out both floors of the main cabin as well as the small guest cabin and had plenty of room to spread out between all of us. The kitchen was well equipped, making it easy for us to cook dinner for more than a dozen people. There were plenty of board and lawn games to enjoy, and the fire ring in the side yard was a nice place to spend the evening after a long day of hiking or canoeing. We all felt very comfortable and happy here, and will definitely keep this cabin in mind if we are coming back to the area.

An Amazing Way to Ring in the New Year!
We rented out both floors of the Main Cabin for New Years. It sleeps 15 comfortably, but we got 18 in there just fine with a few air mattresses. The kitchen downstairs is full stocked with everything you need from blenders to toasters to a cast iron skillet. The hot tub was a great addition. The property manager was extremely easy to work with, as well as, being flexible with check-in and check-out. The cabin was way larger than I expected. It's really nice having so many separate rooms. However, be careful with low hanging doorways. There are a few low ceilings in the house that could annoy anyone that's 6'5" or above probably. The back porch was really nice. It was really peaceful with the sound of the stream. Everyone attended gave it an A+!

Everything Was Amazing!!!
We shared Thanksgiving with children and grandchildren and enjoyed every minute. We had 19 and there was plenty of room. We have been doing this for a number of years but usually go to the beach. We decided for the mountains this year and everyone agreed this was the best ever.
The kitchen was Awesome......more pots, pans, bowls, utensils, and extras than we had hoped for. My daughter, daughters in law and myself love to cook, bake, and feed people and the kitchen was perfect.
One of the highlights was the hiking available at the nearby park - the children LOVED the ponies there. The trout stream behind the house, the firepit in the side yard, horseshoes, and cornhole were all fun. And of course the Hot Tub!
The owners are kind, thoughtful people and answered all our questions quickly. We are thankful to them for helping to make this a Thanksgiving we will always remember.

Unmaintained & Dirty
Upon opening the front door, there was a strong odor of moth balls. I am unsure what the owner is doing with the cleaning fee, because this place was really dirty. The empty fridge shelves were dirty, the front of all the appliances were really dirty. All the batteries for the TV remotes were dead. The outdoor patio table was disgusting. The hot tub had an algae/scum line 1 inch tall and smelled (not chemical smell, but nasty). And then for the surprise when going to bed, no sheets on the bed, had to put them on ourselves. Oh, and the fireplace didn't work and after reaching out to owner about it, they refused to help with the fireplace.

Timothy,
I am sorry for taking so long to respond to your review comments, but we could not get back up to the cabin until a week ago.
We rarely receive comments like yours.
My wife cleaned the cabin herself 4 or 5 weeks before your arrival but we did not have any other guests within that time frame (that we know of).
She is a very thorough cleaner, so we are baffled why the kitchen stove and fridge we so dirty. She checked the TV remotes and found the batteries were put in backward. We don't know how that happened because she used the TV when she was up there last and again after placing them correctly last week. The phone battery in the kitchen was dead, although its battery is rechargeable. The phone in the living room was functioning though.
She checked the hot tub, and the water and filter were clean, but the top cover hinge point had some chemical residue in the hinge point only. She was able to wipe that off.
The outside patio table on the back deck does get pollen and dirt on it if not used frequently.
As far as the bed sheets, we always put the folded sheets on top of the bed to show they are clean.
As far as the fireplace, I emailed that it would be difficult to describe how to light the pilot to you over the phone, and that is the reason we leave it on all the time, normally. I suggested using the dining room heater to you but apparently that was not satisfactory. Obviously, you wanted the living room fireplace.
We are so sorry you did not have an enjoyable vacation, but can understand why, especially the dirty stove and fridge. I believe someone had to have been there without our knowing it.
How can we make it up to you?
Sincerely,
Jim and Barbara Lashua
We enjoyed our stay, the backyard with the stream and the fire pit were awesome as was the hot tub and the fun Christmas decorations.
Our only disappointment were the televisions. We always watch football bowl games on our New Year’s stay and we were disappointed in the televisions at the property, two of the three TVs were very small and very outdated.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The creek, fire pit, fenced in yard, hot tub - very nice!

This was a return visit for our family reunion. We came 4 years ago. Hosts are easy to work with and make you feel welcome. Plenty of sleeping space for our group of 20. The main rooms are a bit small to accommodate that many people all at once but there’s plenty of space to spread out otherwise. We all had a great time!

About the host
Hosted by Jim and Barbara Lashua
Jim and Bobbi L. We purchased this cabin because of our love for the mountains and trout streams. We have four children and their spouses/grand children/friends. The cabin is just far enough away for the big cities to get lost in the mountain serenity.
Why they chose this property
This cabin is currently only renting the Main Floor which has 3 bedrooms and 1-1/2 baths. A separate guest cabin is also available for guests who might want individual privacy.
What makes this property unique
The cabin can be rented through two different options: The large cabin ground floor (3 bedrooms) and/or add the small guest cabin for an additional fee for 2 to 4 persons. It has its own hot tub and kitchenette.
