About this property

Gracious 19th Century Country Estate Home Surrounded By Nature And History

Lovely 1898 country estate home located in the historic Keswick area, in walking distance to Castle Hill. Turkey Run Farm is convenient to Charlottesville, but far enough away for amazing peace and quiet, and night skies. Very accessible to Monticello, Montpelier, Ash Lawn, many of the area’s most celebrated vineyards and cideries, the University of Virginia, the historic Charlottesville downtown, the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Skyline Parkway. Fantastic views of the Southwest Mountains can be enjoyed from several vantage points, complete with regular sightings of wild turkeys, albino and piebald deer and Bald Eagles. A wonderful, relaxing place to walk and ride bikes, Turkey Run Farm is a gracious and welcoming environment for family reunions, bridal party groups, smaller wedding receptions and company retreats. (There is an event charge for gatherings of greater than 20 guests, and a porta-potty requirement.)
Four private bedrooms, two full bathrooms, and living room with fireplace are located on the main floor, with a stone family room and large farm kitchen in the English basement. Front and rear porches and stone terrace offer exquisite, unsullied views of the Southwest Mountains.
It should be noted here too, that Turkey Run Farm truly is nestled into the embrace of nature. That means that our guests will be experiencing authentic rural life in contrast to an environmentally controlled hotel or in-town dwelling. This also includes some bugs in the summertime. And, like all rural properties in the mid-atlantic region the new bug on the block is the indomitable, but friendly, stinkbug. We seem to have them the worst mostly in the October time frame when they too are seeking a cozy VRBO for a long winter vacation, but a few are with all of us year round these days.

Beautiful location near vineyards
My family enjoyed our stay in this beautiful historic home perfectly situated near Keswick Vineyard despite the weather adding some complications. There was enough space for 6 adults to relax and enjoy the scenery from the great porches. I recommend confirming pets allowed prior to booking , but this wasn't an issue in the end.

Ladies getaway outside Charlottesville
The owner was very prompt with responses and anticipating our needs. We loved the front porch! I would recommend to arrive in daylight as it is secluded. The property was well kept. The house is from 1899 with large rooms, tall ceilings, and good water pressure. All beds were full or queen. There were some photos of twin beds. Internet was a little slow but had no trouble streaming music. A lovely spot if you're hoping to get away, see stars, and enjoy the company you brought. Of the local options we went to Patch Brewing and BBQ Exchange in Gordonsville and would highly recommend both. Drive from Gordonsville side is paved but there are patches of gravel road coming from the opposite direction.

Family stay for wedding at Castle Hill
The property was as described. The owner was very accommodating and had fresh flowers and some breakfast food in the refrigerator. He also allowed a early check-in and late check-out. When I booked one of the photos had 2 twin beds but the description had the correct beds. My adult daughters were a little disappointed to share a bed. The weather was beautiful and we were able to enjoy the porches and the peaceful surroundings.

Beautiful historic home
The house was comfortable and a great set up for 2 families. The kitchen was well-stocked and we enjoyed a nice meal on the front porch. Richard was very communicative and thoughtful. We mentioned we would use the grill and he set out lighter fluid, charcoal, and grilling utensils. Loved the ground floor kitchen.

We went in a wine weekend and had an amazing time! The farm house is so cute and has so much character. Located on a beautiful property and we all enjoyed sitting out on the porch at night, would definitely stay here again!

About the host

Hosted by Richard Davis, Owner and Property Manager

Host profile image
Richard Davis, the owner, grew up on a horse and cattle farm in the nearby Gordonsville area. He attended Woodberry Forest school in nearby Orange, VA, and graduated from the University of Virginia. He has both worked in aviation and the space program for years and has traveled extensively. Richard has always found the Blue Ridge Mountains to be incredibly beautiful and inspiring. He spent years looking for a place in the area that met his dreams and was very excited to find Turkey Run Farm when it recently became available. He and his sister Deborah McLeod, who manages the property for him during his absences, have spent the past year restoring and furnishing it for guests as well as Richard's family's own part time use.

Why they chose this property

Richard and his family tremendously enjoy the nature there, the dramatic views of the mountains, the extensive landscape plantings all around the house, a place for the children to explore nature, the amazing clear views of the night skies, the graceful presence of history in the house, and most importantly, the incredible peace and quiet of the surroundings.

What makes this property unique

Turkey Run's greatest benefit is the tranquility and privacy that can be experienced from its outdoor spaces - the terrace swing or the ease of the front porch chairs. The only sounds that can be heard are the calls of birds and the rush of the wind.
