We are a three person family: mom, dad, daughter. Both parents (Cath and Stefan) are originally from Vermont, although we've been living in the city for most of our adult lives. We love the city, our neighbors and and the neighborhood, but every summer we go on an extended trip to visit the grandmothers on both sides of the family and so the carriage house is available in July and August.

Why they chose this property

Vanderbilt, Underhill and Washington Ave are like spokes in a wheel with the "hub" being Prospect Park. Each of these streets has a cornucopia of bars and restaurants. The park itself is a welcome refuge, a great green place to picnic or go for a long walk. There are free concerts all summer there at the Brooklyn bandshell, and a farmers market every Saturday. We also are close to various subway lines and so you can get wherever else you need to go with ease.

What makes this property unique

The carriage house is one of the oldest on the block. Since it is tucked behind the front building, you would never know it was even there from the street! It has lots of character: vines growing everywhere, a tree trunk coming through a wall. We have made an effort to decorate in character with the place: a swing hanging from the rafters, oriental rugs, tasteful taxidermy, vintage art and plenty of plants. Despite the antique bones of the place, it also has essential modern amenities like laundry, a dishwasher, AC and of course wifi, so it is really the best of what's old and what's new.
