Such a cute place, and very accommodating! The house could have been a little cleaner but it wasn’t the end of the world! This trip was just my husband and I but I really wished my two small children were there with us because they would have loved being there!

Observer Ranch is a 76-acre dark-sky retreat in Penrose, Colorado. We built it for stargazers, glampers, families, and anyone who needs to slow down for a few days. The whole team lives and works on property year-round, so when you check in, we're the ones meeting you at the gate. Hospitality here means the cabin's lit, coffee's on, and someone knows where Saturn is rising tonight. We're a small operation. We treat every booking like it matters.

Why they chose this property

Penrose sits in a sweet spot most travelers fly past. We're 45 minutes south of Colorado Springs, 30 minutes from Pueblo, and on the doorstep of the Royal Gorge, the Arkansas River, and some of the darkest measurable skies in Colorado. You can rock climb at Garden of the Gods in the morning, raft the Arkansas in the afternoon, and be back here under the Milky Way by nine. The land out here doesn't demand anything from you. It just lets you exhale.

What makes this property unique

We're a working learning center, not just a place to sleep. Our cabins are named for stars (Sirius, Vega, Polaris, Rigel) and our campers carry the planets. Guests get an indoor learning hall that fits 50, a Little Spark area for kids, a library, and on clear nights, a deck pointed straight at the sky. Pets welcome at Mars. Open year-round. Long stays encouraged. Show up curious. Leave with a constellation map and a new habit of looking up.
