Lift the glass wall between the kitchen and screen porch, and the entire house feels like you're outside. Wind up the spiral stairs to the upper deck, and that's your Lakeside Lookout over an expansive lake, hence the name. It's a one-of-a-kind, custom-designed lake home that leaves you with an overwhelming sense of peace, a true retreat at The Retreat at Water's Edge. Two stories, black outside, pine paneling inside, with a hot tub on the deck, a fire pit at the water, and four kayaks to launch from the deck onto glass-smooth water (no motors allowed on the lake).
Built for a couple who want a quiet lake to themselves, and comfortable for a family of six.
The screened porch includes a table for six over the water. The kitchen has a quartz island, a dishwasher, a full-size refrigerator, an electric cooktop and oven, a Keurig coffee maker and a toaster. The living room has an electric fireplace under a large television and comfortable seating area. The main-level king bedroom includes a tub-and-shower bath. Upstairs, a second king bedroom has windows that look down into the family room that can be closed off for privacy. It also has a desk that looks over the water for the perfect work-get away. The upstairs bunk nook holds two extra-long twin beds, and the second bath has a walk-in shower. A spiral stair leading to the lakeside lookout deck is perfect for an after-dinner drink while watching the sunset.
Outside: the hot tub on the deck, a smokeless fire pit with Adirondack chairs at the shoreline, and a short dock for loading four kayaks.
Water's Edge sits outside Tracy City on the Cumberland Plateau, about 45 minutes from Chattanooga, and no gas-powered boats are allowed on its lake, so the water stays calm and quiet. Foster Falls and South Cumberland State Park are minutes away, Sewanee is a short drive, and guests have access to the hiking trails and one of Tennessee's tallest waterfalls at The Retreat at Deer Lick Falls.
What is included: The hot tub, the fire pit, four kayaks with paddles and life jackets, charcoal grill, linens, towels, soaps, paper goods, wifi, free parking and keypad entry at any hour. Firewood is not included; bring your own or buy a bundle from Retreat Vacations.
Other things to note: Sleeps six, and the primary renter must be 21. Up to two pets are welcome with prior approval; email Guest Services before you book, and the pet fee is $100 plus tax. No smoking. Gravel drive and stairs, including a spiral stair to the rooftop deck; not wheelchair accessible. A doorbell camera covers the entry; there are no cameras inside the home.

This was our first stay in a "tiny home", and it didn't feel tiny at all. We were very please with the exceptional use of space, with a luxurious master bathroom, full size kitchen appliances, washer/dryer, and well-designed living areas were more than expected. Everything from coffee at sunrise on the screened-in porch, to kayaking in the morning, lounging in the afternoon on the rooftop deck, to evenings in the hot tub, it all added up to the most relaxing escape from the city.

Marvelous
My mother and daughter and I booked the stay as a celebration of life trip for my other daughter we lost in recent years. It’s obviously a tough week, but I can’t put into words just how appropriately therapeutic the space and the scenery was for us. The cabin itself is just beautiful and well laid out. It was clean and quiet and perfect. It was placed in the perfect spot on the water’s edge and helped to create a view we never got tired of staring at. Mother Nature served a heavy thunderstorm midday on the second day and it didn’t dampen a thing; the metal roof, the floor to ceiling windows, and the screened in patio only added to just how glorious this experience was.
We plan to do this trip yearly, this three generation trio who lost the dearest soul to us, and the first place we’re going to look next year will be Lakeside Lookout.
