FLAT #2, Corten - Lafayette Flats Boutique Vacation Rentals is four modern vacation rentals in one historic building. This listing is for Flat #2, Corten which is found on the second floor. Walk up the 23 stairs through the airy art-filled stairwell to reach your beautiful flat (please note: there is no elevator in this historic building). Corten is designed to luxuriously accommodate two adults, as are all four vacation rentals at Lafayette Flats.

BEDROOM – Have a relaxing night’s sleep on the medium/firm queen-size hybrid mattress with 100% cotton sheets, four pillows (two flat and two fluffy), and an alternative down all-season duvet with a cotton duvet cover. Room-darkening blinds and curtains provide privacy. Electric and USB outlets are conveniently located on both bedside tables to keep your phone close by while you both recharge after an adventurous day.

BATHROOM –Each vacation rental at Lafayette Flats has its own hot water tank, so you can take a long shower in Corten’s large, tiled shower. Enjoy William Roam hand soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and bar soap (all sulfate & paraben fee). A makeup mirror, hair dryer and 100% cotton bath towels and linens are provided to ensure you look and feel your best.

LIVING SPACE – Enjoy the abundant natural light streaming through Corten’s many windows. The comfortable living area has a sofa, table, recliner, lamps and smart TV. Dine at the kitchen bar.

KITCHEN – Prepare simple or complex meals in the very small but fully functional kitchen with all utensils and wares provided, including a refrigerator (44” tall), electric range stove and oven, toaster, and microwave. Fiestaware table settings and glassware are provided as are salt, pepper, and olive oil. Enjoy filtered water from the Brita pitcher in your refrigerator.

COFFEE & TEA SERVICE – Savor the flavor of locally-roasted coffee provided exclusively to Lafayette Flats guests in the 12 cup Cuisinart coffee maker or French press. A kettle and assortment of gourmet teas and tisanes as well as creamer, sugar and Truvia are also provided.

MEDIA & DATA – With 500+ mbps Wi-Fi, you can work remotely or relax while streaming Netflix on the complimentary account. Enjoy your favorite music on the Bluetooth speaker.

LOCATION & COMMUNITY - Lafayette Flats is in the center of the charming small town of Fayetteville. Park your car and relax, you are just steps away from shops, pubs, and restaurants. You’ll find a New River Gorge National Park trailhead at Fayetteville Town Park and the visitors center is a five-minute drive away. There is a local guidebook and trail guide in your flat.

IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCES – Lafayette Flats is more than just a collection of award-winning vacation rentals, it’s an experience. Inspiring original art by contemporary West Virginia artists is on display throughout the building, and as a guest, you have the exclusive opportunity to book a New River Gorge Eco Tour. PRIVACY & PARKING – While the main entry and stairwells are shared by all four vacation rentals inside Lafayette Flats, you have sole access to Corten by keyless (code) entry. For your convenience, there are six private, off-street parking spots behind the building.

We stayed in the Corten flat. It was spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Cute little place in the heart of Fayetteville. Perfectly clean and comfortable, very nicely decorated. Cozy, so perfect for 1 or 2 people. Hosts are 100% on top of everything. Property has a lot of style and is really appealing. The apartment was very clean and comfortable...and I am super picky about cleanliness. The location is ideal and and we're happy that so many wonderful places to eat were an easy walk away. Parking is very convenient. The NRG canyon rim visitors station is a very short drive away. The hosts were very kind and responsive. They were very nice to reach out with a pre-arrival text with reminders of entrance codes and parking information. The bits of information about area resources were useful. The items left for our use in the apartment/building were high quality and thoughtful. The towels, linens, bed, furniture were all very nice. I actually wish I had a bath mat at home like the one there. By the way- the shower and bathroom were great. The art throughout the building is beautiful. I plan on returning someday- especially because of the kindnesses shown by Amy and Shawn.

The stay was solid. Everything felt new. The walls and floors were solid despite it being an old historical building. The owners took time to consider a lot of details to make the space efficient and spacious. Also the bed is of great quality and comfort. There is a full kitchen, however, I suppose there could be a tad more counter space. It's sufficient but don't expect to be roasting up a huge meal with ease. There is a dish rack under the sink for drying dishes...I wasn't sure if it was intended to be used under there or pulled out to the island countertop as there isn't space next to the sink for that. Another issue was that the AC was loud when it kicks on. Another thing is that there could be a bigger dresser. These are very minor issues. At least there is a strong newish AC system and something much more than a kitchenette and a small tall boy dresser. Water pressure is good. Everything else is great.

The hosts could not have been more accommodating. They also checked in w/us a few times to be sure we were satisfied. The flat is so clean & cute, decorated with unique art & nice linens. Loved the set of dishes! They even have great travel books to help with planning visits to the state parks & NP. They offer a list of rainy day activities (thankfully we didn't need alternative plans). Location is perfect, w/in walking distance to restaurants. We highly recommend this flat!! But..... as the hosts tell you, you must be able to walk a flight or 2 of steeeep stairs.... no elevator in this historic building.

Having never stayed in Fayetteville before I wasn’t sure what to expect, but this property was perfect for the weekend trip I had planned. I'm Amy and my husband's name is Shawn. We were both born and raised in Charleston, WV, where we still live and we both work for the same non-profit organization. Charleston is only about one hour from Fayetteville, so lucky for us, the best vacation spot in West Virginia is close by.

Lafayette Flats began with our simple desire to get out of town. We love our home in Charleston's East End but we really like to travel. We found out early in our relationship that we travel together well and we love to do it as often as we can. We love taking weekend driving trips to places like Asheville, Columbus, Charlotte and Louisville, and we've been all over our home state of West Virginia.

Many years ago we drove across the country on Route 66 and last fall we toured Northern California - Yosemite, Redwoods, Wine Country - we loved it all. But big trips are few and far between, so we satisfy our travelin' Jones by making the drive up to Fayetteville as often as we can.

Maybe it's the Bacon Jam at The Secret Sandwich Society or the breathtaking views from Long Point Trail, but something keeps us coming back again and again. We looked for a small apartment in Fayetteville that we could rent, just to have a home base where we could escape to on weekends but found nothing suitable. After months of searching, we decided to take on a project where we could build our own space.

We looked at several opportunities, but the one that caught our eye was the historic building on the corner of Court Street and Wiseman Avenue - known as 'The Malcolm Building.' This building was built in 1906 to house The Bank of Fayette and is on the National Register of Historic Places as part of Fayetteville's Historic District.

We spent the summer and fall of 2013 renovating the building - doing much of the work ourselves. We are eager to show off our space!

Why they chose this property

Our love for Fayetteville and the New River Gorge area caused us to something we had never done before: We bought and renovated this historic cut stone building, transforming the top two floors into four apartment style vacation rentals. Corten is one of four flats in the building.

Since it is on the Historic Registry, we were very intentional in our renovation plan to leave the building intact as much as possible. Originally built to be an office building, each floor only had one common bathroom and the heating in the building was hot water radiators. Since it was built before electricity, the electrical system was hodgepodge of makeshift circuits and ancient fuse boxes.

Along with theses negatives, though, were a lot of positives: The beautiful original woodwork is still there and the fortress-like construction means that the building is very sturdy. The beautiful cut-stone exterior looks exactly like it did when it was built a century ago. Our renovation plans preserved the woodwork and the basic configuration of the building.

Installing a new electrical system and the plumbing necessary to support two additional bathrooms and kitchens was done in such a way as not to change the character of the building. Fire codes made us make some alterations to doorways, but overall the building looks as it has for the last century.

In spite of the ancient spaces of this small town former bank building, the interior design is chic, modern and urban. We want to offer visitors to Fayetteville something completely different from the campsites, cabins and large vacation home rentals available in the area. Furnished with all the comforts of home and decorated to the nines with local original art and many unique design elements, this is not your typical vacation rental!

Our downtown location right across from the beautiful Fayette County Courthouse allows our guests to park their car and relax.
