Lake City is the ultimate vacation destination, especially for lovers of the great outdoors. Peace and quiet abounds, and the pace of life is just what you make it. No stop lights, traffic jams, or rush-hour traffic…just time to enjoy the slow pace of this southwest Colorado community.

Our vacation home can be a comfortable home-base for your family’s vacation. Enjoy watching the hummingbirds and chipmunks and deer from the comfort of the swing on the covered porch or read a book or enjoy the fantastic views.

The outdoors activities are endless. Miles and miles of open stream trout fishing are a fisherman’s dream, and ATV/4-wheel drive trails are fantastic! Horseback riding is available, and bicycles (rentals available) are a fun way to see the area. Recent relaxing of regulations allows for driving your ATV directly from house to trails.

Mining history is everywhere, and fun to explore. The historic Alfred Packer Massacre site is just minutes away, and within easy walking distance you can wander through cemeteries with dates going back more than 100 years.

Hiking trails are just out the back door. Lake San Cristobal, for which Lake City was named, is a beautiful location for boating, fishing and relaxing, and only a few minutes’ drive. The Blue Mesa Reservoir, the largest lake in Colorado, is only 45 minutes away, with some of the best lake trout fishing in the state!

Plan day trips to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, the famous Cliff Dwellings, or jeep trips over 4-wheel trails (rentals available locally). All offer experiences and breathtaking views that will last a lifetime and drive you to return year after year.

There are many annual events that are great fun for the whole family such as the craft fair, classical music festival, Fourth of July celebration, fall wine festival, winter activities, and much more!

We offer special discounts to clergy, educators, fire fighters, law enforcement officers, and military...all people we respect and appreciate! Some off-season discounts may apply. Call for information and a link to a website for additional photos. Just pack a couple of changes of clothes, grab a few groceries, and let the fun begin!

Labor Day on Golden Road
Generally speaking it was as advertised. It is the season for mice to try to come in and we did have some. I took one outside myself. The owners did apologize and vowed to take care of the problem. I would recommend the space.

Excellent stay
This was probably the best stocked cabin we've rented as far as items in the kitchen and bathroom. The layout of the cabin was roomey for 4 adults and 2 kids. The front porch was nice. Since you're elevated on a hill over other cabins in the area coupled with a longer driveway, you feel more secluded and private than you are. It was a little tricky backing two trailers and two vehicles in but we made it work. The single car garage was nice for a side by side to stay dry during rain showers. The only thing we might like to see changed was updating the furniture in the living room. We've been to Lake City 4 times and my in laws 6 and this has been our favorite cabin so far.

About the host

Hosted by Dennis and Deanna Kuder

Host profile image
Dennis and Deanna Kuder are an ordained United Methodist Clergy (Retired) and retired teacher/non-profit foundation director (Retired). We have enjoyed coming to Lake City and sharing our home with many others through the years...helping others build memories of their own! We have tried to make this a warm and inviting place that is as comfortable as home for our guests, and in 2014 we began a total remodel of the interior so our guests will enjoy a like new experience. We want to provide a place to enjoy the beautiful mountains in a safe, comfortable environment without the highest prices that make it unaffordable for the average family. We encourage those who often are on a tight budget to come share our home and get a chance to enjoy the beauty we have so long enjoyed. As we have both recently retired we also are looking for a new younger family to pass on this dream to, so if you are looking for an excellent investment property with the luxury of having the opportunity for family vacations, too, this might be the right place for you! Come for a visit to try it out or give us a call to discuss the potential.

Why they chose this property

We purchased this property when our sons were 6 and 10 and have watched them enjoy the beauty of the outdoors. We found the location to be ideal for all our interests and a joy to share with others through the years. We have had so many wonderful thank you letters from our loyal renters who return year after year to vacation in the moutains and escape the heat of the city and the fast-paced world that just isn't in Lake City! Buying this property was the very best thing we ever did, and it has brought such joy to our lives. Aging family members and grandchildren in other places is causing us to look at passing on the joy we have known to others so we can share that bond with the next generation of Lake City lovers!

What makes this property unique

Hiking, fishing, boating, Jeeping, ATV trails, mining history, beautiful views and watching the aspens turn to golden are some of the wonderfilled memories we hold dear. And there is nothing more beautiful than Christmas in LC! The 4th of July celebration brings lots of old-timers to town, and the festivals are great...year round activities are planned for tourists and locals alike, and the folks that reside in LC share a special bond that is so obvious even to the part-time resident or vacationer. Life-long friends will be found from visits here, but they may be from many other states! 'Meet Me In LC' is common on the Christmas Cards each year!
