Would not recommend. Very dissapointing.

Savary is amazing, but we were sadened and disapointed after having rented this cabin. There were many problems that we had not been made aware of before arriving. The roof leaks in several spots in the entryway. We arrived to a bucket of water catching some of the drips and most landing on the floor in a large puddle. There is a serious mouse problem, with hallway corners and the lower kitchen cabinets showing ample mouse droppings. We also had to wash fresh mouse poop out of the pans in the morning. This was likely exarcerbated by the amount of food (oats) left in the cabin by others. Many of the pillows and blankets for the bedding were rank. Thankfully, there were many to choose from and I found some that were cleaner. The toilets were filthy and had a thick brown layer of toilet film inside. It does not seem possible that they could have been cleaned any time recently to get in that condition. I would guess a month at least since the last clean. There was a note asking us to burn used toilet paper in the wood stove in the kitchen. The kitchen! The very idea that the ashes I cleaned out of the stove may have contained other people's used toilet paper was beyond disturbing. Dressers were missing handles, a huge dog bed in the living room covered my children in hair, a leak from a bathroom flooded the hall one day, there was almost no room for us to put our groceries - no pantry and barely any cupboard space, a back room packed with building and other supplies of the owners - and a sliding glass door leading to an unbuilt balcony off the master bedroom, resulting in a 4-5 foot drop added an unexpected hazzard for our young children. There are many wonderful places to stay on Savary and I have been in many of them myself. We were very disapointed with this cabin. These problems do not seem to be new as most of the families we spoke to on the beach knew of the cabin and had heard many complaints from renters over the years. It seems to have a bad reputation. When I contacted the owner, my concerns were dismissed. We would not recommend this cabin to anyone. I would give 0 stars if it were possible.

How unfortunate that Christina waited 4 days after her check out to mention anything and demanding a full refund. Usually when a guest feels anything is disrupting their enjoyment of the cabin, they contact me or my caretaker as soon as they arrive or notice anything. I followed up immediately with the guests who were staying thereafter, and to my great relief, both parties assured me that everything was fine, just like the party who was there just before her for 3 nights. And they had rain, so yes there were minor leaks at the entrance where the roof above the open front porche met the cabin roof - as water tended to pool there before I replaced the entire roof, but it was not enough, especially in the summer rental period, to disrupt guests. I was there for 4 days cleaning and preparing the cabin and let just 4 days prior. Everything was fine. I made a point to go through the blankets and pillows to make sure they were clean and there was plenty - as the cabin had been rented since the beginning of June non-stop. I had used the kitchen pots and pans and went through them all, and all the utensils, and it was all clean. I left a glass jar of oats to put in water buckets when catching oysters and clams of the beach. It allows them to spit the sand of them, so they're nicely clean the day after. There were no mouse drops. I cleaned the bathrooms and the toilets (which got since replaced) just before leaving, so they were clean. Furthermore, my cleaner came the day of her arrival and made sure everything was fine after the 3-night rental in between. Yes, there was a condemned patio door of the Master Bedroom and it was blocked and locked, before the new deck got built. The island has a sensitive eco-system and because we were on a sceptic tank before the new sceptic field got built, and a lot of people was going through the cabin in the summer, we preferred to burn the paper as much as we could, yes, in the woodstove - paper turns into ashes, and the stove door shuts, so the smoke goes in the chimney. If it was not your thing, it was perfectly fine. You could just flush it down in the sceptic tank. Dressers are not missing handles - they're just designed to open on the sides or below the drawer. We put lots of efforts and money into maintaining the cabin, and problems are addressed as they come - 19 times out of 20, I've heard nothing but good feedback from our guests. Remote islands are not for everyone.

Lovely Savary Cottage

Lovely stay at Martine's place. Prefect little cabin/cottage in the woods. The cottage had everything we needed and was very short walk to the beach. We had a wonderful time. Thank you!

Great cabin!

This cabin is in an unbeatable location steps from the beach. It is spacious, well equipped and clean. It is truly a CABIN- which is why I loved it. You must run a generator and treat the water/septic respectfully. That said- all the instructions (with pictures) were clear, and both the owner and caretaker responded quickly to texts when I had a question. I would rent again here.

Rustic Paradise

What a fantastic time we had at this incredible little gem of a cabin! This place kept reading our minds... jigsaw puzzles, skip-bo, pictionary and a great selection of books. The wood stove was incredibly cozy for the brief downpour we encountered. The kitchen was very well stocked with more than adequate supplies to cook whatever you wanted. The location is fantastic just about a 1 minute walk to sandy beach. Beds are comfortable. If you are looking for modern decor and heated tile flooring you should look elsewhere, but if you want a rustic cabin to relax and disconnect with your busy life this is your place. It's best if you have someone comfortable with operating a generator and water pump, although relatively straight forward to figure out. I feel like this property is totally set up for the laid back type and we could not have found a better spot! Great for kiddos too.

Thank you so much Heidi! I'm glad you had a good time. You are right, this is perfect for the laid back crowd. We work very hard to maintain the cabin, and on Savary it's a double challenge, because it's so remote and damp in the winter. It's an older cabin, but every year, we do some improvement, and it's nice when someone appreciates how rejuvenating it is to be in an all-cedar cabin and comfortable beds. I am now re-assured that you found the place great for kids too.

Wonderful Savary cabin

Great location at west facing Sunset Beach area on Indian Point - one minute walk to the beach. Cabin is a classic wood interior design with all that is needed for a relaxing Savary Island experience. Everything went smoothly. We had a wonderful week walking, biking (bicycles provided) and playing frisbee on the extensive sandy beach. Highly recommended.

Amazing stay!

My family (husband, 2 year old and 4 month old) stayed at Martine's place on Savary Island last summer for a few days- it was magical. A perfect setting- set back in the woods only steps from the most amazingly beautiful beach. A rustic cabin that was perfect for our needs. We parked ourselves at the beach most days and we were so close for baby naps, food, and washroom breaks. I think about our stay often and only wish Savary was closer but that would only take away from it's magical and unique allure. Martine was an awesome host- even though she was not there-I felt assured with all of the info- help she provided and we were welcomed by her neighbor who showed us the property and provided all details again. I absolutely recommend staying at Martine's place...special memories are made on Savary. Thanks Martine

I am so glad your little ones were able to enjoy the beach! You are right, it is very handy to just walk back to the cabin and forth when needed. Your "fairy" photos are on the site - thank you so much!

I share my time between Vancouver, Mexico, and Savary Island. I grew up outside of Quebec city, near the Main border.

Why they chose this property

I fell in love with the island when I went there by accident 10 years before I bought. I promised myself I'd have a home there one day. I loved the cedar feeling of the cabin - everything smells good, and the view is delightful.

What makes this property unique

It's only 3 minutes walking from the beach. You get to see the sunset from the Living Room or kitchen. It's quiet, there is much less traffic at the Point.
