About this property

Restored Jefferson Bungalow In The Heart Of The Historic District

The large red brick bungalow was built in 1919 by Benham Hunsaker, an Ogden resident who worked at the famed Stockyards on the west side of the river. In 1946, Mr. Hunsaker split his property into 3 units, to accommodate the many returning WWII soldiers. The home went through many owners, and remained a triplex - one that housed less-than-illustrious residents. The current owner purchased the home in 2007, and had just finished a massive remodel in February 2013, when an arsonist broke into the basement and set it on fire. It was nearly a total loss. After 16 months, the home was restored, rebuilt, and reverted back to the original single-family floor plan. The new home features original hardwood floors (that survived the fire) new Craftsman kitchen cabinets, granite counters throughout, tile baths & showers, central vac, all new electrical, plumbing, heating & air conditioning.

The home features 5 bedrooms + a library, with one king bed, four queens, a full futon, and two twin futons. There are two family rooms, both with cable TV & internet, a wet bar in the downstairs family room, and a storage room for bikes, snowboards, golf clubs and any extras.

This home works extremely well for corporate long-term rentals, as well as temporary housing for relocation. Keep in mind that Owner Sue Wilkerson is also a RE/MAX Broker/Owner, which can make your move even easier. The home has been used for family reunions, ski and cycling trips, graduations, wedding parties and corporate retreats, as well as long term relocation and employment-related housing. Should you need accommodations for more than 30 days, feel free to google her and we can avoid a taxable stay. It's a perfect home-away-from-home for those in between houses in the crazy real estate market.

There are full-size stacker washer & dryer, dishwasher, disposal, microwave and most every kitchen utensil I could think of.

The yard is features a fully-fenced rear yard. There is off-street parking for 4, at least, and easy access to all amenities.

About the host

Hosted by Sue Wilkerson

Sue Wilkerson believes in Ogden, probably more than most. Watching the city change over the past 14 years has been inspiring to her – and provides her with the experiences to share with you on a blog dedicated to her love of Ogden. So many times, those visiting - or moving to - Ogden just don’t have any idea how great it is here – her passion is contagious – you’ll be addicted soon to the mystique of the “outdoor recreation capital of the world”.

Sue’s dedication to community started at an early age, growing up in Boulder Creek, California. Her spirit of civic responsibility was fueled by a college internship with Congressman Leon Panetta in Washington, DC. After graduating from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in Agriculture, Sue went on to build an agricultural trucking business with her then-husband Ralph in Woodland, California. Moving to Utah in 1997, she spent some time in air freight, and then settled into real estate in 1999. Starting with Coldwell Banker, she soon launched her brokerage Terra Venture Real Estate in 2002, which has transitioned to RE/MAX Crossroads! It led her to fall in love with Ogden and the historic districts, with the grand mansions of yesteryear.

Sue stays involved as the past-president of the Junior League of Ogden, board member of the Eccles Art Center, a Spiker for the Ogden-Weber Chamber of Commerce, Ogden City Landmarks Commissioner, active Trolley District advocate, and an honorary commander for the 388th Maintenance Squadron at nearby Hill AFB, among other activities. Living in the most amazing outdoor venue, Sue spends time snow-boarding, biking, hiking and cooking for all of her friends. She is happily single and living in a historically-designed infill home in Ogden’s Trolley District. Sue's love for historic, cool homes led her to purchase several great brick homes in the Trolley District, and she has refurbished many of them, improving neighborhoods and giving folks a cool place to live!

Why they chose this property

I fell in love with the bead-board eves, the gorgeous woodwork, the big front porch and the amazing front door. Since the fire tried to take away some of those things, I have worked to provide a wonderful home-away-from-home for the traveler, the executive on leave to Ogden, a family in transition between homes or the family needing a great place to land during family events.

What makes this property unique

The home is so close to downtown Ogden, the hot-spot of things to do! Every amenity is within walking distance, except, perhaps, Costco, but it is only a 5 minute car ride...

Blending my own love for travel with the wonderful layout of this home, it really has been the Phoenix rising from the ashes. I put every feature in this home that i love in mine, just down the street, and then some. The views from the kitchen window of the valley, and the mountain views from the living room make this a special place.
