About David Jones
Self-confessed Francophiles, we bought Croix Petite in 2015 after two years of research and viewing more than 30 properties. We love the house, and we love the local area. If we weren't gainfully employed we'd be there now :) Luckily we have wonderful property caretakers Steve and Lesley who look after the house, and the wonderful people who come and stay in it, for us.

Why David Jones chose Saint-André-d'Allas
Why this property? S P A C E ! Croix Petite is actually two stone houses that had been joined together with a new kitchen. The result is nearly 300 square metres of space, with two wings each with two bedrooms and bathrooms, large landings and a huge lounge, plus games room. Only one bedroom isn't en suite, and that one has it's own bathroom. Because of the two wings it would be quite possible for two families to stay in the house and not hear each other! Outside there's 5 acres - a wood to lose yourself in, and a heated pool to relax in, totally private and not overlooked. Walnut trees, too. There are loads of footpaths nearby and very good cycling, on and off road, for reasonably fit riders. There's a very authentic tabac a hundred metres away, for an end-of-day pastis. Robert, the owner, farms the fields at the bottom of the valley by the house. On Sunday evenings a little pizza van is stationed here - great for a lazy evening meal. 300m in the other direction is a great boulangerie. Peace, space and tranquility in the heart of the Dordogne.
What makes this House unique
We're extremely lucky to have local property managers, who look after the property and know it well. They will be on-hand for advice or help during your stay. Beynac Chateau is just 6km, and the Dordogne river too. The Dordogne is great for boat trips plus canoeing and kayaking. Beynac is one of the most beautiful villages in France. The chateau is open to the public, and the area is saturated with amazing castles and chateau. Les Eyzies is 12km away, with the famous pre-historic caves. Sarlat la Caneda is just 6km away with all the restaurants and supermarkets you could wish for, but don't forget the local boulangerie just 300m away from the house.

Croix Petite is a wonderful place to stay. The house and grounds are large so there’s room for everyone. It is very peaceful with great views. The house is very comfortably furnished and the kitchen has everything you could possibly need. The beds were also very comfortable - very important!!
David, the owner, is great, always quick to return emails and to solve any problems. We really cannot fault it.
Brilliant time at Croix Petite
We visited from N England and had a brilliant time at Croix Petite. Everything was as expected with no unpleasant surprises. The house is in a great position, facing south, with views over a valley. It’s very well maintained with fantastic gardens and loads of space for the kids in the woods and a big field below the house. The pool had just been renovated and was brand new when we arrived, larger than most holiday houses and super clean. It’s all very tranquil, and about 5-10mins drive from Sarlat so if you’re looking for party central nightlife it’s probably not ideal! We’re looking forward to returning.
Delightful stay at this location
All our family from Amsterdam and London met here for a wonderful week together. The facilities were as described with clear instructions on use and what was expected on departure. David the owner, was always extremely helpful with any questions and responded quickly.
No negatives other than it could have been clearer on the website that additional charges were made for linen, which would be necessary for most U.K. visitors.
Many thanks for proving a great villa for our family holiday.
The property was truly wonderful. We were a group of 8 adults, 2 children and a baby of 15 months. We could not fault this property, everything imacculatley presented. So much room for everyone and
Everything so spotlessly clean. The kitchen was truly amazing with
Everything you could possibly need, dishes etc. of all shapes and sizes. We made such good use of everything, including the pool.
A truly beautiful place and would not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone. The area of Sarlat is just so beautiful and
retains its natural charm. A highly recommended property and
would return again.
Great facilities, very comfortable would visit again
Our family enjoyed a super week at Croix, the pool pump did fail which turned the water green but the owner David responded brilliantly his caretaker sorted the issue and the pump was replaced. This did not spoil our enjoyment and it was reassuring to receive such good service.
The house is well equipped and we barbecued every night, plenty of all that you need to keep the food and drink flowing. The utility room has a super size washing machine and dryer which came in handy. Only point we could make is the the garden looked like it needed a little attention to bring to its best. Overall a great time had.
Best holiday in a long time
Croix petite is a fantastic holiday home.. the accommodation is spacious, clean, well equipped and very accommodating. It's one of the best holiday homes we've rented. The grounds are lovely and peaceful. Which we enjoyed especially being able to relax all day by the pool.
Bakery is 10min walk max up the road, and is fantastic.. we made daily visits:) It's location is ideal for visiting the Dordogne river, and plenty of tourist attractions. 5 minutes drive to sarlat which is a lovely town and provides everything you need for your holiday.
The owners of this accommodation are fantastic, providing us with plenty of information on the house and the local area. They are quick to respond to questions and are very friendly.
This is the perfect holiday home for a family or two. One of the best holidays we've had in a long time and we will be going back.
Too many to mention...!
There are plenty of activities for all ages, be it exploring the historical and breathtaking fairytale chateaux and ancient troglodyte caves nearby, kayaking at a leisurely pace down the River Dordogne for a picnic or browsing for antiques in Sarlat.
Sarlat-Le-Canada hosts a local market on Saturdays and every cobbled street is filled with stalls overflowing with local produce – meats, cheeses, foie gras, vegetable, fruit, olives, walnut oils and cakes, honey and wines.
Evenings are easily wiled away on the terrace enjoying drinks at sunset or sampling local cuisine in any of Sarlat’s many restaurants. The Perigord region’s gourmet reputation is not undeserved, the restaurants will offer you truffles, asparagus, foie gras and walnuts products.
