Loved our stay in Cobh. Pronounced Cove. Nice kitchen with everything you would need to cook for 6 people. This house is old, but very functional. Great location is Cobh! Street parking is available but can be challenging because the street is very steep. House is in the middle so walking up or down is a workout. Be aware that Cobh is a cruise ship town and Wed/Thurs is much busier. Loved this location.
Staying in a Deck of Cards house… a dream come true! The home was better than imagined for our large family (2 adults, 6 kids). Location was perfect and we especially liked the gassy park across the street. The host was super helpful and responsive. We would definitely recommend and stay again!
There was plenty of room for all eight members of our family in this lovely house in Cobh. It couldn’t have been more convenient to the town center. Our host, Patrick was friendly and helpful. We all really enjoyed our stay. I would definitely book again.

House had a lot of dust and cobwebs. sheets were pilled and itchy. Some things were outdated in manual. Furnishings are very well used. Bath upgrades were wonderful! Gorgeous views from every window. Location is perfect but be aware street is very steep. Hosts very responsive and kind.
This was a very cute property and was able to accommodate the entire family. It was awesome to stay in one of the "deck of cards" homes. We were able to walk to downtown and the cathedral. The owners were very responsive with a small issue. Definitely recommend.
The property was a charming 3 flat that was arranged perfectly for our extended family trip. We loved the access to the town and local establishments all within walking distance. The steepness of the street was NOT exaggerated, it is super steep, but after the first day we planned it into our day.
Enjoyed the house and location. Could have had more bags for trash (1 for 8 people for 5 days) and the landlord really has to let future guests know how steep the street is (the online photo is deceptive), it was very difficult for our 70+ family members.

Needs updating
This house needs updating. The couches are very old. There was no blow dryer and the clothes dryer did not work and had not worked for some time as it was stated in the paperwork in the house. There was tea and the sugar had bugs in it. While the location is great, this house needs some TLC.
Awesome get away with views out the window. Walking range to town that had every thing you needed. The owners helped with my lost checked bag at the airport that was delivered two days later and left it in our house while we your out touring the city. Thanks for all the help greatly appreciated.
Owners were communicative, check-in was so easy and the location was beyond perfect. We entered the home and were immediately struck by the charm, the views and the attention to detail throughput. Some things work differently than they do at home, but there wasn’t one thing that wasn’t easily addressed in the property handbook. My entire family loved our stay and is hoping to return to Cobh and to this home.☘️😊

Thank you so much Suzanne for taking the time for the review! It was really great being able to host you and we are looking forward to welcoming you again very soon indeed! The Irish charm is definitely there!!
Nice cottage with great views and walking distance to town! One bathroom was out of service for entire time, with 7 adults was a bit of an adjustment. The host was responsive however expected us to be home to allow plumber in so never got fixed. House was roomy, a bit of a fishy smell when you first go in and there was a hole in the large bedroom on 3rd floor, right in front of the bureau luckily no one fell in! Overall nice stay and great location!
Great reception from host’s Mum. Car space was kindly reserved for us. Quaint home, easy walk down hill to town. Only inconvenience was that both bathrooms are on the first floor, no toilet downstairs and none for 2 other bedrooms on 2nd floor. Otherwise comfortable. Thankyou

Dear Lynne,
Thank you for your kind words regarding our home, and we are glad you enjoyed your stay.
Regarding the location of our bathrooms on the first floor they are located there as there are three floor levels to the house we feel people who are on the ground floor and top floor can access them equally and conveniently.
As these houses were build in the 1850s we inherited the location of the bathrooms we do hope it didn’t cause you to much inconvenience.
Our house next door however does have a fully equipped bathroom on the ground floor as this house was renovated last year and indeed you are correct it works well.......
Thank you again
Kind regards
Carole
Everything was great except the listing on VRBO said there was a washer and dryer. When we arrived, no dryer. We were in the middle of a 2 week trip and were counting on that.

Beautiful Row in the heart of Cobh
The house was very charming and roomy. It was clean and had everything you could need, and the views of Cobh were to die for. The house itself is also a local attraction being a part of the colorful deck of cards which makes the stay feel even more special.
Perfectly located in downtown Cobh and less then a 10 min walk from the pubs restaurants and sights. Also only a 30 min drive from the Cork city center.
We were greeted by Cathy’s lovely mother in law Marion who we saw multiple times throughout our stay as we walked along the street. She was the sweetest woman we met on our entire trip and always asked us if we were enjoying ourselves or needed anything.
The house has multiple bedrooms and bathrooms as well as a spacious living and kitchen area. Would be perfect for a big group or family, but was also perfect for just us too. Would 100% recommend staying here.

Thank you Daniel for taking the time to write a review! We are delighted you enjoyed your stay and the Irish hospitality!

The property was advertised as charming Victorian. It was old, outdated, and dirty. The windows only stayed open by propping items in the window. The dryer hasn’t worked since 2017, the fridge leaked, and the front door lock stuck and the the door wouldn’t lock. When I reached out to the individuals listed as contacts I got no response or acknowledgment. Would NEVER recommend this spot for the price they charged. Grossly overpriced!

Property not as Described
This property was advertised as recently renovated - we were unable to determine what has been renovated. As we stepped through the front door - there were lingering unpleasant odors.
The kitchen stove hood was very greasy and not appealing while cooking. There were only 2 coffee filters for our entire stay and we were unable to find any in town.
The sofas were very worn out and sagging - not comfortable for sitting on and visiting, much less drinking a glass of wine at the end of the day.
The beds were most uncomfortable.
The cleanliness was non-existant. There were cobwebs and dust bunnys everywhere, skeletal spiders in the windows and mildew throughout. When we took showers in the small bathroom, it leaked through the floor down into the kitchen and had to mop up the water.
Advertised with dryer and there is no dryer - only air dry racks.
For the price - it was not worth it for us.

Update needed !
Such a disappointment… the house description states it is a recently renovated charming property - in reality it is currently in need of a complete makeover .
I later learnt the property was renovated in 2013 and it appears to me it has not been updated since that date .
The overwhelming smell of fish greeted us as we entered the property and permeated the downstairs area.
Despite opening windows and using air freshener the smell was still lingering after 4 days !
The house is supposed to cater for up to 10 guests- we were a group of 8 -
but there were only 5 mugs, 6 side plates and 4 useable wine glasses.
After requesting additional crockery these were provided after 2 attempts but this was not a good start to the holiday .
Other issues were:
Cracked tiles and wobbly taps in the bathroom , no blinds on the velux window in the attic or on the bathroom window, broken lock on the main bathroom door, water leak by the fridge.
On a positive note, the location of the
house is brilliant .
Such a shame the description of the house is not met in reality .

Hello Theresa,
I would once again like to refer and respond to your most recent review of my house.
Firstly I would like to respond by saying that after receiving numerous messages from you prior to your check in date trying to assist you with your many many questions about the surrounding area, transfers, transportation, earlier check in time if possible for which i have obliged,i feel i went above and beyond in assisting you and your group.
Now in response to your comments about the house.
Indeed as i did explain to you on the phone the afternoon you checked in there was a slight mix up regarding the cups, water glasses etc for the number of guests, they were in the house next door after a larger group had left.
In any case within half an hour of your request we delivered the items you requested and you were very happy with this.
We also delivered another fre breeze air freshener that you demanded because post the previous guests you felt the odours of fish smell was not acceptable to you.
The house is on an island…..and guests like to cook and eat fish.
Regarding the bathrooms…..we do not have a velux window in either bathroom?
So regarding your comments about no blind….I’m not sure what you mean?
However we do have windows with blinds in these bathrooms.
However the bedroom with the velux window, you are correct ther is no blind, but we have a blind and curtains on the windows.
The bathroom tile has a hairline crack in it….
Not tiles with crack
About the host
Hosted by Patrick
We are an Irish-French-Dutch family who loves spending time in Ireland. It is such a relaxing and refreshing atmosphere compared to our buzzing life in busy cities. What we most particularly love is enjoying a glass of wine with a great meal in the house, after a day of golf and walking and running! We hope you will enjoy the house as much as we do!
Why they chose this property
I love being in Cobh as it is a central point for many relaxing activities that you will enjoy during your stay, whether it is for a week-end, a week or more, here are some ideas on what you can do (and that we enjoy doing also): - Golf – Cobh Golf Club is located 3km from the house, which also features one of the most picturesque Par 3 in the country, and island green with the harbour in the distance. I can arrange Green Fees "at the drop of a hat" for Cobh Golf Club. If you want to do a Golf Tour, you also have very nearby the Fota Golf Club, and Cork Golf Club. The Old Head of Kinsale is easily accessible also. - Walking and Running: you have various routes that you can walk or run on the island! From sea-side walks to countryside walks, via wood walks, there are plenty of choices! - Fishing – depending on the time of the year, you will be able to fish different ways! - Spa – why not pampering you in the Fota Spa? - Restaurants & Pubs – you cannot stay in Ireland without going into a traditional Irish Pub, and in Cobh you will be spoiled with choices! The best pint of Guinness for us is at the Roaring Donkey on top of the hill! - Discovering – the Titanic and the Lusitania have marked the town, and to discover the history, you can visit the Museum, walk the trail and rest in the Memorial Garden. - Boat trip – take a boat tour to Spike Island. The multi-cultural island has hosted a monastery, a fortress and a prison within its 104 acres, all of which have left their mark. - And of course, plenty of activities for children: the Fota Zoo, Cuskinny court adventure park, swimming pool, playgrounds across the town, they will enjoy their time in Cobh also!
What makes this property unique
One of the reasons why I love this house is that it carries a lot of history. My husband is born on this hill and has a lot of nice memories from these houses. Now that we have our own family, I love the relaxing atmosphere we have created in the house. We enjoy having a glass of wine with friends and a good dinner in the house, after a day with Golf, walk and running! The other reason I love the house is that it is big and spacious! You can have a lot of people in the house, and still have some privacy, due to the 2 bathrooms, the living space, the large kitchen space, etc. It is a well organised house. But mostly, I enjoy coming to Ireland as it is a relaxing, wild atmosphere, away from our busy lives in busy cities... Our objective is for you to enjoy as much the house as the area! And we will be very happy to help organizing your stay and also helping you during your stay!
