LAKEFRONT 4 BR Vintage Home - adjacent to conservation land, walk to beach

Charming 1930s vintage home which sits at the edge of Oyster Pond, looking out at a view across the pond of Vineyard Sound. Four bedrooms, with boats and swimming off the private dock. The home is equipped with a rowboat (with sails), two canoes and a kayak. Oyster Pond is ideal for swimming and observing wildlife -- hummingbirds, turtles, osprey, swans, geese, cormorants, and heron.

One bedroom with a full bed and private bath, the second with full bed overlooking the water, the third with two twin beds and a bunk bed. A breezeway leads to a separate wing with primary bedroom (queen bed) overlooking the lake, and bath. One bathtub, two showers, and a hot outdoor shower with a view of the lake and Vineyard Sound.

A long sitting screened-in porch with dining table and stone patio overlook the pond.

The home is midway between Woods Hole and Falmouth, and a short walk to conservation land, including trails through Zinn Memorial Park and Spohr Gardens. A 15-minute walk (or row) to ocean beaches on Vineyard Sound and the Shining Sea Bikeway and beaches along Vineyard Sound.

Woods Hole village is a 7 minute drive, a world-renowned center for marine science, with a ferry terminal to Martha's Vineyard Island. Five minutes in the other direction to Falmouth, with shops, restaurants, and theaters.

We three siblings have spent our whole lives enjoying summers in this beautiful cottage. We love the town, the woods, the lake, the beaches. You will too!

Why they chose this property

Our father was a scientist at the nearby Marine Biological Laboratories. As kids, we attended the Children's School of Science, learned to swim at Stoney Beach in Woods Hole, learned to sail on Oyster Pond and then in Vineyard Sound.

What makes this property unique

This beautiful home at the end of a dead-end road was built in the 1930s as a hunting lodge, with a huge fieldstone fireplace, screened porch, dock, and spectacular views of Oyster Pond, which is actually a deep kettle-hole lake. The property is secluded and private, with no traffic. All the rooms in the main house are the original knotty pine beadboard. Swimming off the dock is refreshing. And many a young child has caught their first fish from that dock!

At the top of the dirt driveway there's a path into the Oyster Pond Environmental Trust woods, open to the public with beautiful walking trails. A short walk through the woods takes you to the end of Fells Road, which leads along the southern shore of Oyster Pond to Quissett Beach facing Martha's Vineyard 4 miles across Vineyard Sound.
