George Bement was the first pastor of Kihei Lutheran Church in 1987, and served as its pastor through 1993. He was a case manager at Ka Hale Ake Ole homeless resource center in Wailuku, Maui, from 1993 to 1995. He recently retired as a pastoral counselor and clinical social worker in the Cathedral Clinic, a free clinic for homeless patients at Christ Church Cathedral, Episcopal, in Houston, Texas. His wife, Barbara Strobel, also recently retired as a CPA from the RSM accounting firm in Houston. Their oldest son, Aaron, is a graduate of LSU and captain with Pacific Whale Foundation on Maui. Their youngest son, Danny, is a graduate of Texas A&M working in Minnesota.
