We enjoyed the place very much

Giles was a great host, the home is beautiful, spacious, and comfortable! It’s a little secluded and requires some driving to get to nearby attractions but there was an excellent selection of vintage media and the outdoor patio was great to catch some sun! Overall, we had such a wonderful stay here and would definitely recommend.

Superb cottage

We greatly enjoyed our stay in this cottage, one of the best that we have stayed in! The property was very comfortable, spotlessly clean and welcoming. It's very well equipped with everything one could need and well maintained. There were plenty of great trips a little drive away with some beautiful walks and beaches that we greatly enjoyed. We highly recommend staying here! Thank you for providing us with such a lovely stay ☺

Wonderful short break at a lovely cottage

Despite the weather (we arrived just as Storm Kathleen hit south Wales) we had a fabulous long weekend mostly down to the cottage. Spacious, clean and welcoming, I would highly recommend a visit and we’ll definitely be looking at a return stay. Giles is a great host with excellent comms and very welcoming. All in all superb

Lovely break in Wales

We had a brilliant week staying at Woodbine cottage despite being unlucky with the weather. The location is beautiful and quiet, with plenty to do in the surrounding areas if you are willing to do a bit of driving - coasteering, zip world, gorgeous walks, beaches and plenty more. The cottage layout is ideal and accommodated two families of 4 comfortably. We enjoyed visiting pubs and/or playing board games in the evenings. Friendly host and great communication.

Lovely cottage

The cottage had everything we needed for our stay including plasters for a blister one of my children got. There is loads to do near by. You have to get used to the narrow roads that last a few miles in and out of the village. We were there the end of October and it did rain a lot but when the sun came out it was lovely. The owners were very helpful at the end of our stay and I would recommend staying in this cottage.

Beautiful Location

Really large spacious house. Three bedrooms on one side, and one bedroom and bathroom on the other so good to separate if needed. Kitchen was really large and really well equipped! Beds were lovely and comfy and bed linen was great quality so everyone had a great nights sleep. The only let down was the living room, the sofas really do need replacing as it didn’t feel comfortable to relax in there.

Cosy house in a lovely village

We really enjoyed our stay. This is a lovely area with lots to do and fairly quick and easy access to the coast. We enjoyed the village location, the area is fantastically green and beautiful and people incredibly friendly. The cottage itself is cosy and warm but needs some updating and a bit of a refresh particularly in the upstairs bedrooms and shared bathroom. We nevertheless settled in well and were comfortable (including the dog who settled instantly). The kitchen was very well equipped. Giles the owner, provides the best 'things to do in the area' pack I think we've ever received with a holiday. It was so helpful! We would recommend this cottage and area of Carmarthenshire for a great holiday.

Comfortable, clean, home from home.

It took several attempts to reserve the property with Giles but once successful the process was straight forward. On arrival at 'Woodbine' we found the house spacious, clean and well appointed. All of our party slept well on the comfortable beds and the kitchen was well stocked with crockery, cutlery, glassware and pots and pans. All the usual electrical appliances are present (microwave, dishwasher, washing machine etc.). We couldn't get the VHS or DVD's working but TV reception was okay, there were a selection of board games, books and local maps and good WiFi, there is also a comprehensive folder of house and local information. The owner, Giles, rang us to check we were settled in and offered any assistance if needed which was nice The house is set in beautiful rolling countryside in a small village. There is a local pub just a five minute walk from the house which has a small menu, food was simple but tasty and the locals and landlady were friendly and welcoming. During our stay the pub was only open Wednesday to Saturday. There is no village shop. We found a Tesco's in Carmarthen about 20 minutes away and there is a small convenience store about 10 minutes away. With the Gower peninsula and Pembrokeshire coast within an hour's drive and the Brecon Beacon's on your doorstep, 'Woodbine' was a great base. One last note, 'Woodbine' is pet friendly but your dog will only have access to the kitchen and living room. We received the restrictions just before the rental was due to start, some time after making the booking. It would be useful to have had that information on the listing as our pooch usually sleeps in our bedroom at home and never really got used to sleeping on his own in the kitchen. Thank you Giles, you have a lovely holiday home and we all had a smashing time.

Excellent Facilities, very clean and good Comms

We had an excellent experience staying here. Communications with the owner before and during our rental were excellent, they really couldn't have been more helpful. The facilities at the cottage are excellent - everything you could think of was there, and it was very clean when we arrived too. Location is great, just a short drive to many local attractions. I would really recommend this cottage to anyone.

A wonderful stay

We had a fantastic stay at this charming cottage. From the moment we arrived we felt relaxed. The cottage is super clean and the beds and bedding a lovely and comfortable. The area is beautiful with views of all the baby lambs and beautiful welsh countryside. The visitor book was packed with loads of helpful information so have a read we visited Carreg Carrara Castle with was well worth a visit and the tea room there is lovely and Pembrey beach is stunning our 3 year old even went in for a dip. We also took a trip to Milton house which is national trust the grounds are lovely and the Easter trail was sweet but the house wasn’t fantastic but worth a trip for a walk in the grounds. Can’t wait to return.

About the host

Hosted by Giles Nicholas

Host profile image
We let out our holiday home to others so they can enjoy Wales as much as we do. We seek to make sure our cottage is very well equipped and very comfortable for their stays and help our guests as much as possible with suggestions for what to do and where to eat (we have a long list we provide to all guests). We are always happy to communicate by phone and on text to help guests with any questions they might have when staying at the property. We have always had very consistent top ratings from our guests.

Why they chose this property

Woodbine is our family holiday home which we bought many years ago in this quiet village in the hills as it was close to fishing on the River Towy and River Cothi. There is a lovely footpath walk behind the cottage which goes to the top of the hill behind and from the top you get amazing panoramic views over miles and miles of beautiful unspoilt countryside. There is a beautiful village church with regular services, half in Welsh and half in English. And next door is the village pub, Penybont Inn.The cottage is a great escape from the hustle and bustle of city or town life - it is very peaceful, with only the sounds or sheep or cattle the other side of the valley.

What makes this property unique

The property has been renovated with a new kitchen and bedroom extension.
The cottage is a great base to explore Wales in all directions into the Brechfa Forest for mountain biking and walks or gold mine, the beaches to the south west and the market towns of Llandeilo and Carmarthen and fishing on the Towy and Cothi or the multiple castles in the area. And then return to the peace and quiet of this lovely village.
