About this property

Welcome to Winghaven & Asheville! Secluded yet convenient to shops & food

Located on the south slope of Burney Mountain in the beautiful Mountains of North Carolina, the Chalet at Winghaven is a spacious, sunny log home, built in 2014.
Close to Asheville (twelve miles to downtown) and all its attractions, the Chalet is surrounded by 38 acres of picturesque hardwood forest. Wild turkeys rustle the fallen leaves in winter and lead their young in spring. An abundance of birds and other wildlife can be spotted from the sunny porches and a large south facing deck.
Amazingly this natural oasis is hiking distance from the local pizza place and the closest large grocery store is less than four miles away!
Open the sliding glass door of the spacious MASTER SUITE to enjoy the mountain air or relax with a glass of wine on the covered porch.
Sleeping in the LOFT BEDROOM with its own private full bathroom feels like being away from it all, up in the trees.
Guests of all ages enjoy the BUNK ROOM which is adjacent to another full bathroom which features a washer and dryer.
The open kitchen /dining / living space with vaulted ceilings and exposed beams is bright and airy during the day and cozy at night with a fire in the Danish wood stove.
Outdoor amenities include two covered porches, a deck, a gas grill and a fire pit perfect for making s'mores.
The Chalet is a convenient home base for the multitude of activities our area has to offer: Visit the Biltmore Estate ( 11miles), Downtown Asheville (12 miles), Historic Hendersonville (14 miles), go tubing or kayaking on the French Broad River, zip lining, drive the Blue Ridge Parkway, hike a different trail every day or see five magnificent waterfalls in just one day. There are wine tastings, beer tours, music and dance performances to attend and fabulous restaurants to try. Biking is a favorite sport here be it on the road or on mountain trails. We are more than happy to help you with planning your vacation so please talk to us and let us know what you are interested in.
Of course the Chalet is also an awesome place to just relax, enjoy the sun shining through the leaves, the peace of the forest and the starlit nights.
Please note that the Chalet is accessed by a private gravel road but 4-wheel drive is usually not necessary. We are happy to talk to you about the road if you are not familiar with driving in the mountains!

The cabin was extremely clean with very open spaces to relax in. The deck is perfect for enjoying the incredible scenery surrounding the entire home. The road leading to the cabin made for a perfect hike for our dogs who also enjoyed the open floor plan of the home. Communication with the owners and the check in/out process was as good as it gets. We absolutely plan to stay again in the future.

Great location for a family trip near downtown Asheville. Beautiful property and warm, modern log cabin feel. The hosts communicated well and the home was stocked with everything needed - thanks for the coffee! Great stay!

Wildlife to see on this property, so exciting to see 3 Bears hanging in the trees, and deer each morning as we ascended down the long driveway. Kids loved it.

Great mountain log cabin

Stayed the extended weekend. House was very clean and we loved the solitude. Despite being one of a only a few houses on the mountain, we were still very close to Biltmore and other attractions. Love the views with morning coffee and the house felt bigger than the pictures. Extremely happy with this rental and look forward to returning.

Holiday Get-away

Friends gathered at the Chalet for a holiday get-away that did not disappoint. The cabin was spotless and the hosts were so kind and helpful in answering any questions we might have prior or during our stay. Th kitchen was well-stocked and there was even a nice supply of personal items provided for the guest who may have forgotten something. We would love to come back to enjoy your cabin again in the future!

Gorgeous home in a great location!

We rented the chalet for a bachelorette weekend and had a blast! The home is absolutely gorgeous and was well stocked with essentials. The space was modern, open, and private. Our favorite part of the chalet was the fire pit! The home is a short drive to downtown Asheville and close to Publix and lots of restaurants. I would highly recommend this home for a fun and relaxing stay!

We Made Wonderful Family Memories

The cabin was better than the pictures showed. It was in a very secluded area which was nice and quiet. Every morning that our granddaughter woke up in the cabin, she exclaimed "This is the best day ever!" That is priceless! Thank you for an amazing stay!

End of Summer Vacation

The property is absolutely gorgeous! We loved the seclusion and being surrounded by nature. The house has a very cute log cabin feel, perfect for the mountains. It is very dog friendly! Our fur babies loved their stay as well. The GPS did try to take us up someone elses drive way at the bottom of the mountain but other that there are absolutely no complaints!

Great getaway

Isolated location with beautiful view of the mountains. 25-30 min from downtown Asheville. The only complaint is we wish the mattresses were a little better but maybe that’s just what happens when you’re getting old ;) kids loved the variety of puzzles and bunk beds.

The perfect setting.....privacy but still close to conveniences.

We stayed at this lovely chalet for a long weekend while playing in a tennis tournament at Asheville Racquet Club (South). It was a 15 min drive to the club...probably 5 min of that was the drive on the winding gravel road. The road is in good shape; we had no trouble getting there. May need 4 wheel drive if snowing. Home was clean and well equipped with everything we needed. One note...if you are particular about toilet tissue, take your own:-) We didn't have much time to enjoy the outside amenities due to spending so much time at the racquet club so we hope to go back in warmer temps. The owners were extremely nice and helpful! If you stay here check out Surf n Brew in Fletcher....great food!

Wonderful Stay at Winghaven

Our family truly enjoyed our stay here! The house was lovely and immaculate with plenty of room for the six of us. We stayed during summer, so the trees were full of leaves, giving us a feeling of being surrounded in the forest. Birds singing during the day, fireflies at night…can’t ask for much more. Plenty of amenities (the vanilla cream coffee was such a nice treat!). While there is not much to do in the town of Fletcher itself, the short distance to Asheville to the north and Hendersonville to the south makes the location a gem. It’s a short drive to hop on to the Blue Ridge Parkway and not far from DuPont State Forest. There is LOTS to do in the surrounding areas. The house is a short, fairly easy drive up a mountain (we drove a minivan up with no issues). It feels secluded but you are not far from civilization. Would definitely recommend.

Nice house but needs a deep cleaning

If you appreciate a clean home-STAY AWAY!! This is a beautiful home and came fully stocked. The disappointing part of our stay was that it wasn’t clean: Moldy towels & blankets, silverware drawers with crumbs and debris, dirty cabinets, filthy dishwasher & washing machine, condom under chair cushion, food and dirt under furniture, webs and dirt on sills and light fixtures, Firepit area dirty with leaves and debris. Upon arrival, we reported some of these issues to the owner and she offered a reclean that she expected us to supervise! I didn’t go on my annual vacation to supervise a cleaning crew! It is the responsibility of the owner to present us with a clean home.

Everything was absolutely wonderful! Check-in & out were very easy, the cabin was clean, & bed was comfy. If you are looking for a beautiful, roomy cabin in a serene, private, yet convenient location, THIS is the place! My husband suggested nicer living room furniture & a larger TV, (another in the primary suite would be nice) but this place will remain on our list to visit again!!!
The deck is outstanding!
View from every location is beautiful!
The Blue Ridge Parkway is close-by, easy to access, & is a MUST-SEE!

This is a lovely, spacious, well laid out cabin. Huge outside deck! It is a perfect location as so many great sights and things to do are within a few minutes. We travelled in all directions: north, south, east, and west and never had to go more than 30 minutes to reach so many great destinations. The driveway up to the cabin would be a challenge, but very doable even without 4 wheel drive. Just take your time, it’s part of the experience. Our hosts Jof and Saskia were very attentive to our needs. We’ll be back!

Well appointed, comfortable home! The bunk bed room has toys and dolls. The master bedroom, bath and closet are spacious. The third floor loft bedroom was a fun space for my teenager. We enjoyed the remoteness and took advantage of the long gravel road up the hill and "hiked" it daily.

After living or owning properties in Germany, the Philippines, Hawaii, Manhattan, Croton-on-Hudson, and Raleigh, we chose the Asheville area to raise our three children. We love the cultural and natural richness of this place. The mountains, forests, ecological diversity, waterfalls and the local food movement, farms and markets, outstanding restaurants, cultural events and interesting, friendly people make this a great place to live and visit. We decided to build the Chalet at Winghaven so we can welcome people to this amazing area that we enjoy so very much.
We live just about ten minutes away from Winghaven, on a small farm with dairy goats, rare breed chickens, ducks, geese and dogs. . Of course we would also be delighted to have you come in person and visit with the animals during your stay at Winghaven! Naturally, we will always have fresh eggs from our happy hens as well as handmade goat's milk soap for you at the Chalet at Winghaven.

Why they chose this property

We looked for a long time to find the ideal vacation rental property here in our beautiful area. We were not satisfied with what we could find, so we decided to build it ourselves! The chalet is very close to our own home, but we still feel like we are on vacation every time we go up there, even though we go there mostly to work! We love the seclusion and privacy of a large property, but we don't like to drive forever to pick up some groceries, go to a restaurant or enjoy the culture of our region. One of the most important aspects in our search for the perfect vacation spot was that the home needed to be sunny and bright. When we found this amazing piece of land it was just a perfect fit. We love the special feeling and connection to nature that only a log home can offer, so this is what we built and we feel that it fits its location amazingly well.

What makes this property unique

The chalet feels bright, airy and warm, with its exposed wooden beams, high ceilings and natural materials throughout. We love to have a crackling fire in the wood stove when it is chilly outside or sit on the porches and enjoy a glass of wine under the stars in summer.
We designed the home to take full advantage of its location and the mountain views. The inside and outside connect through sliding glass doors and huge windows.
The loft bedroom is amazing, it feels like you are sleeping in the tree canopy up and away from it all. Our kids love the bunk room, this is a favorite sleepover spot for them and their friends. The master bedroom is spacious and it is nice to open the sliding glass door to the porch and take in the night air before going to sleep.
We love to explore the forest, follow the little stream downhill and look for the large flock of wild turkeys that is always to be found here somewhere.
