Spent a wonderful week at Acorn Cottage. A good base to explore Dartmoor. Lovely welcome pack from Alison - including scones and fresh eggs. Close to villages that have great pubs to eat and drink in. Would highly recommend

Thank you for your fabulous review - I'm so pleased to hear that you thoroughly enjoyed your stay here and look forward to seeing you again in the future!
Cosy barn conversion ideal for family of 4 with 1/2 pets.
Good access from main roads whilst offering quiet, scenic setting in farm area on the edge of Dartmoor.
Ideal location for exploring across Devon: the coast, Dartmoor and lovely quaint historic sites, villages, gardens and places of interest with plenty of recommended pubs, tea rooms and places to eat.
Acorn Cottage is well equipped offering everything for a home from home stay plus a wonderful welcome in terms of scones, clotted cream, home made jam, local apple juice and many essentials (milk, tea, coffee, wash up soaps etc) A freshly picked posy of sweet peas and some local soaps were offered. Our cat also had his own arrival basket with treats, a toy and instructions.
Alison is a wonderful host who thinks of everything and goes that extra mile: she provided comprehensive travel directions and checked our special interests and preferences in advance. So when we arrived she had typed up a list of skate parks & cycling options for our teen plus a comprehensive list of local & rated pubs/restaurants which proved very helpful and the ones we tried were excellent!
We had mixed weather yet with the micro climate were still able to get out and visit North & South Devon, some of Dartmoor, the locality, Exeter and spend some time chilling in the cottage. There are plenty of books to read, some board games, DVDs, TV and lots of visitor information. We all had a great stay including our cat
Thank-you

Thank you for such a wonderful review! I'm so pleased to hear that you all (including Shadow) enjoyed your stay here.
A lovely little cottage, in the most lovely countryside. We were welcomed with a cream tea & eggs feshly laid by the hens a lovely welcome , and a little gift of some Dartmoor soap (thank you). The cottage was comfortable and clean and it was reassuring to learn that the owner leaves the property for 72hrs before new guests can move in. We would recommend this cottage, the nearby walks were lovely, easy access to Dartmoor, and a great near by pub for a meal out (The Taw River Inn) We loved the area and would happily return in the furture.

Five Stars! - very comfortable, clean, quiet & welcoming
Comfortable accommodation with accessible bathroom and well-equipped kitchen, all spotlessly clean. Cream tea in the fridge when we arrived. Quiet country location but within easy access of main roads to either coast, and Dartmoor close-by. Would highly recommend to anyone who likes a quiet spot in a country setting. Thank you, Alison.

Thank you so much for your kind review. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Acorn Cottage - it is certainly a very peaceful location and just the place for a relaxing holiday!
I would love to give Acorn cottage full 5 stars.Provision for handicapped stayer was very, very good. My only reason for 95 out of 100 is the smallness of the accommodation. Kitchen had everything (including a lowered sink and hob), accept space is very tight. Bathroom, excellent; a fully fitted wet room and loads of "grab" rails. Bedroom number 1 downstairs had room for a wheelchair - excellent. Just a shame that the comfortable sitting room had to be upstairs and so could not be used by my wife - sitting on a bed to watch the television is not ideal - but a lot better than nothing! The owner of Acorn Cottage very generously welcomed us with a pot of homemade raspberry jam and a
pot of Clotted Devon cream and scones!
A lovely cottage in a farm yard surrounded by other converted out buildings and - shhh QUIET!
We shall be returning I am sure.
I am very surprised that Home and Away do not insist that owners who say that their properties have "Wheelchair Access" do not insist that they must also provide bathroom facilities with grab rails and wet room for showering and that both it and at least one bedroom are downstairs on the ground floor unless a stair lift (Stannah or similar)is provided.

Thank you for your kind review and I am glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay. I agree that having the lounge upstairs is not ideal from a disabled guest's point of view - that's the downside of having a cottage in a converted barn rather than a purpose-built building, I guess. The cottage does definitely have a downstairs bedroom though. You're certainly right about it being peaceful here, tucked away from the hustle and bustle!
I look forward to welcoming you again in the future.
Excellent. It was just what I wanted, provided exactly what was offered - and more. It was very well equipped and with lots of modern utensils. A fabulous welcome and a very helpful owner. I would certainly stay there again if I was in the region and highly recommend it to others.

Had a great time staying here with my children. Cottage has everything you need to make it a home away from home. Especially loved the quiet rural setting. Well positioned centrally for days out to other parts of Devon and North Cornwall. Ideal base for exploring Dartmoor. Welcome pack was very welcome indeed after a long journey.
This is a really isolated property in the countryside , it is an ideal place to escape todays busy life !

Relaxing Stay
What a lovely welcome! Cream tea - perfect. And the house contained everything we needed and all in good condition. The neighbours were all friendly and stopped for a chat. The house was well positioned for days out to the seaside, to several National Trust properties (the Finch Foundry was my favourite) and, of course, Dartmoor.

Beautiful Acorn Cottage by L., U. and Frank from Germany
We had a very good week in the beautiful Acorn Cottage.
Alison is a friendly host. She always took care if we had any questions or if we needed some help.
The Cottage was well prepared, tidy and clean for our holiday.
We had very comfortable beds and all rooms are lovely furnished. We found many catalogs for excursions and maps for the surrounding.
The kitchen is provided for all your needs and Alison also left milk, apple juice, cornish cream and fresh egs in the fridge. Furthermore we had a nice welcome with tea, coffe and fresh Scones, raspberry jam made by Alison.
The Cottage is located rual and quiet but Okehampton is near.
The weather was very fine for hikeing in and around Dartmoor which has beautiful landscapes.
It is absolutly worth it to spent time in the lovely Cottage and we hope to come back once more.

Lovely farm cottage
This is a beautifully presented farm cottage. It has everything provided that you could possibly need, (including a cream tea waiting for you on arrival). It has been thoughtfully planned to offer accommodation for someone with mobility issues. I would have no hesitation in recommending the property and hope to make a return visit

ACORN COTTAGE. by M. T and Tilly.
We stayed at this cottage from Sept 9th- 16th and had the most wonderful time. Upon arrival there was a cream tea waiting for us and a welcome pack for our dog courtesy of Alison. The cottage itself was beautifully clean and spacious. Alison also left us fresh milk, eggs from her own hens and apple juice. She is a truly lovely lady and host and nothing was too much trouble for her, that said, she did not intrude during our stay. She even left printed ideas of things to do and what was going on in the area. The sitting area was comfortable with a large tv and selection of dvd;s. The wet room was ideal and the kitchen provided for all your needs. Sadly. the weather was cloudy and wet but it did not stop our fun, we visited Brixham, Torquay, Dawlish, Oakhampton and the famous Widdecombe Fair which we thoughly enjoyed. The best thing at the end of the day was a lovely comfortable bed, so cosy !
The cottage has wifi but is slower than at home, we couldn't get a mobile signal. The tv was fine, no problems. Our Labrador enjoyed herself as well, the cottage is quite rural but some great walks and easy to find. There is a local pub which serves good food and drink if you fancy a break. The only downside was that we did not want to go home and cannot wait until we return next year. Alison is really the perfect host, so very friendly, what more can you ask for, it is worth a stay to experience some great days out or in, absolute perfection and a great time to be had by all.

A very comfortable, yet small cottage.
On our arrival we found a welcome pack from the owner, milk, eggs, scones, jam and clotted cream amongst other things. A Devon cream tea was enjoyed by all after our long journey.
The cottage is located on a farm some distance from any main road, quiet and peaceful. On the edge of Dartmoor with some fantastic scenery and beautiful walks on the doorstep.
The cottage is well equipped, all we needed was there, even to support the creative activities of our eight year old with a little container of "treasures" in a kitchen drawer. Cleaning materials, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid were all provided and best of all a small barbecue and charcoal. We all enjoyed a wonderful week exploring the Devon and Cornish countryside.
Two local hostelries we would recommend, The Tors Inn in Belstone and the Taw River Inn in Sticklepath, both an easy drive or pleasant walk from the cottage. A little further away is the Rugglestone Inn in Widdecombe on the Moor, simply beautiful setting and a great hostelry.
Although we do prefer to visit new places, we would not hesitate to return to this cottage.

Acorn Barn, Near Okehampton, Devon
We stayed during July 2017 and found the barn conversion to be very clean and comfortable. On arrival, we enjoyed a Devon cream tea supplied by Alison which was a lovely surprise and well received. The cottage is set in a lovely and peaceful location, but within quick and easy access of the Dartmoor National Park, Okehampton and the A30. The barn has obviously been converted to a high standard and had everything we needed for our week-long stay. The barn should be of interest to anyone with a disability as the downstairs wet-room and kitchen has obviously been designed with this in mind. The local village of Belstone and it's pub (The Tors) is also recommended.

Thank you for your kind comments. I am currently exploring the possibility of getting WiFi installed in the cottage and am hoping to have it in place by the spring of 2017. As it's a very rural location, it won't be the fastest connection, but still better than nothing!
