About this property

Cozy and welcoming 1 bedroom cottage on Pickerel Lake. Sleeps 4.

Please read full description as it should answer most of your questions. Calendars are automatically updated so should reflect current availability at any time (unless of course two reservations happens to come at once).

Nostalgia meets modern conveniences. This cottage is part of an old vacation resort from the 1950's and 60's, updated with a full bathroom, complete kitchen including small appliances, and window air conditioner. This 1300 acre recreational lake is great for boating, skiing, fishing, kayaking, and canoeing. Private pier, pontoon pedal boat, 2 kayaks and 2 stand up paddle boards are available for use; adult flotation devices and a couple junior/child vests are available. Both a gas and charcoal grill are available for use.

The bedroom has a queen size bed with window seat for storage during your stay. Living area has a queen size fold out couch. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you should need during your stay, including a coffee maker, electric griddle, toaster, hand mixer and toaster oven and a few basic spices.

We love just hanging out with friends and family on the large 14 x 16 ft deck which includes a wrought iron table and chairs, a glider and extra lawn chairs - ample seating for viewing all lake activities including both sunrises and sunsets. Sit back and listen to the loons and watch the eagles soar overhead. A large fire pit for roasting marshmallows and telling ghost stories sits a couple steps from the cottage.

Don't feel like cooking? Take a short walk down the road to the Final Lap where you can get a cold drink, great pizza, chicken wings, burgers, etc. They also offer movie rentals and a place to play a couple games of pool or darts or participate in karaoke every other Saturday evening.

If you are looking for a little exercise off the water, play a round of golf at Quig's Maplewood Golf Course, or cross the highway and play a game of Pickleball at the newly finished courts.

A window air conditioner will be installed in the kitchen for those exceptionally hot and humid days. A window fan in the bedroom to pull in cool night air combined with the ceiling leaves the room cool enough for sleeping under sheets and a light blanket or quilt most nights.

For those rainy days, we have some board games to pass the time and books to read while sitting on the deck just relaxing. See what else you can find on the Community Porch.

Guests should plan to bring their own bed sheets, bath and kitchen towels (or we can include them for a small fee). Plenty of blankets and pillows are provided. A pack-and-play is available upon request. Guests will want to bring groceries with them as the closest full size grocery store is a 30 minute drive. A well stocked convenience store for last minute items is 5 miles away.

We want every guest to arrive to a clean and welcoming cottage. Guests are asked to clean and put away all dishes and take leftovers home. The owners don't live on site so guests are asked to take their trash to the local recycling center on the way out of town.

Guests with pets should consider the following house rules: 1) pets are not allowed on any furniture; 2) pets should not be left unattended in the cottage to reduce risk of damage; and 3) pet waste should be cleaned up and disposed of promptly. We have a large enough yard for dogs to play in. PLEASE be a good neighbor and ensure pets stay in our yard and off of the neighboring properties.

The cottage is cleaned with antibacterial/disinfectant cleaners between guests. Blankets are switched out between guests and all bed pillows are refreshed with clean pillow liners.

We bought this property because for more than 30 years we have enjoyed time with our children and extended family in the area. This property allows us to continue the tradition as our family grows and we can watch our grandchildren enjoy the same experiences with cousins as our children did with theirs while growing up. We have several family and extended family members that also own cottages on the lake so the area provides a place for us to get together throughout the year.

Why they chose this property

We selected this property because it is closer to the water than almost any other property on the lake. The property was one of the original resorts on the lake in the 50's and 60's. The property has both the original office/lodge (aka Dragonfly Lodge) and one of the seasonal cottages (Summer Cottage) on the premises. Both buildings needed some updates and TLC - two challenges we were willing to face. We are still working on the Dragonfly Lodge, but the Summer Cottage is ready to share with others. I love this little cottage and could spend my entire summer sitting on the deck watching the boats, ducks and eagles going by and listening to the loons every morning and evening.

What makes this property unique

Our guests love how quiet and private this spot is. For the majority of the week, the lake is very quiet with fisherman and the occasional pontoon passing by. Saturdays have more action, but it's still pretty quiet compared to other lakes communities. They love the large deck, especially that part of it is covered providing for extra shade and keeping the cottage a bit cooler in warm weather. This cottage is the perfect size for a couple wanting to spend some time alone with enough amenities that you don't have to leave, but close enough to several places to eat, play Pickleball or a round of golf.
