We’re pleased to welcome you to a 300-year-old stone barn on the Podere Sant’Angelo estate, nestled 700 metres high in the peaceful hills of the Maremma, southern Tuscany.

Where once wine, cheese and cereals were stored, today you’ll find our romantic holiday rental “Capitorio.” With its 50 square metres, a double bedroom, a fold-out armchair for one more guest and a living area with a sofa bed, it’s perfect for couples or small families.

Capitorio has a traditional Tuscan interior with high ceilings, chestnut beams and a fireplace, creating a warm, authentic atmosphere. The centrepiece is a genuine “cucina in muratura” – a traditional brick-built kitchen with a stone sink and everything you need to prepare delicious Tuscan dishes.

Ideal for couples who love peace, nature and the outdoors. From Podere Sant’Angelo, you can set out on beautiful walks directly from the property or explore the surrounding hills by e-bike (available for hire in Roccalbegna).

Capitorio has access to a well-kept private garden with sun loungers – a wonderful place to relax, read or simply enjoy a lazy summer afternoon. After sunset, the Milky Way stretches across the sky above the estate – a magical sight, far from light pollution.

Podere Sant’Angelo is special for its peaceful setting, wide-open views, unforgettable sunsets and its Mediterranean garden planted with lavender, rosemary and old roses.

A little gem in Southern Tuscany

Excellent retreat in a pastoral environment. We especially enjoyed the view from the terrace and the bleating of sheep in the background. One of us got a lot of writing done, while the other watched the Tour de France. In short: the perfect (work)holiday, thanks to the Graham, the perfect host.

Das Häuschen liegt in einer sehr ruhigen Gegend. Der Besitzer ist sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Der Garten ist wunderschön angelegt und man kommt hier zur Ruhe.Das Haus bietet alles was man braucht, wir waren zu zweit hier und es hat uns an nichts gefehlt. Es ist sehr sauber und liebevoll eingerichtet.Ob im Liegestuhl oder am Tisch, auf der Terasse fühlt man sich wohl.Sowohl die Aussicht in die Weite oder in den Garten lässt einen den Alltagsstress vergessen.Wir kommen bestimmt wieder

Sehr ruhig und erholsam

Unser Aufenthalt in Podere Sant’Angelo war wunderbar ruhig und entspannend – man ist mitten drin in der Natur. In der und um die Ferienwohnung herum war alles vorhanden, was wir für unseren Urlaub benötigt haben. Einen Trip an den Strand von Marina di Alberese oder in die "Area archeologica" von Roselle können wir empfehlen – hierfür sollte man allerdings etwas Fahrzeit (ca. 1h 15 min) einplanen.

la struttura curata in ogni particolare con un giardino progettato e curatissimo dal proprietario, immersi nelle colline grossetano a 2 passi da saturnia , a 2 passi da zone con reperti etruschi, non lontano dalla costa , ma fuori da rotte turistiche di massa rendono il soggiorno un vero incanto, tornerò x molto più tempo

Wunderschöne Ferienwohnung inmitten der Natur

Wir haben 10 wunderschöne Tage im Podere Sant‘Angelo verbringen dürfen. Die Lage der Ferienwohnung ist ideal für alle, die in ihrem Urlaub Ruhe und Einsamkeit in der Natur suchen - genau das hatten wir auch gesucht! Auf der Terrasse konnten wir tagsüber wunderbar entspannen und Bücher lesen, abends kann man bei einem Gläschen Wein (hier gibt es sehr gute Weine) den einzigartigen Sternenhimmel bewundern - und dem Geräusch der Zirpen lauschen - ab und zu huschte auch ein Fuchs durch den Garten. Hier konnten wir richtig abschalten und entspannen. Ausflugsziele wie der schöne Naturstrand Marina di Alberese oder der Monte Amiata mit seinem einzigartigen Buchenwald sind ebenfalls mit dem Auto in Reichweite - wer kurvenreiche Sträßchen zu schätzen weiß kommt hier auf jeden Fall auf seine Kosten! Unser sehr netter Gastgeber Grahame hat uns sehr herzlich empfangen und mit allen Informationen versorgt - die Unterkunft ist gemütlich eingerichtet und sehr sauber - man hat alles gefunden, was man braucht (auch in der Küche). Wir kommen auf jeden Fall sehr gerne wieder!

Wunderschöner Wochenendaufenthalt in malerischer Umgebung

Absolut ruhige und landschaftlich schöne Lage mit einem sehr netten und hilfsbereiten Gastgeber. Im Haus ist alles vorhanden, was man für einen gelungenen Aufenthalt benötigt: von ausreichend Küchenequipment über weiche Handtücher und Gartenmöbel. Wir kommen bestimmt wieder!

Gite merveilleux dans un endroit merveilleux

(English below) Gite très bien équipé et décoré avec beaucoup de goût...tout est très propre et le moindre détail est soigné...L'environnement est merveilleux, calme : seul le bruit du vent et celui des cigales viendra perturber votre sieste ! Le propriétaire est chaleureux et toujours de bon conseil. Nous avons tellement apprécié que nous serions prêts à revenir prochainement !!!! Tout autour de ce gite se trouvent de beaux village perchés, des sites étrusques et romains et les fameuses sources d’eau chaude sulfurées de Saturnia (baignade recommandée). En résumé……un beau gite qui est un excellent point de départ pour des visites, pour faire du vélo sportif ou simplement pour décompresser loin des tourments du quotidien. Very well equipped and tastefully decorated Holiday cottage …. Everything is clean and meticulously prepared. The local landscape is wonderful and quiet: only the noise of the wind and the one of cicadas can disrupt your afternoon nap ! The owner is warm and always provides sound advices ! We so much appreciated that we would be ready to return soon !!!! Beautiful perched villages, Etruscan & Roman sites and famous hot & sulphurized watersprings (located in Saturnia; recommended bathing) can be found in the near vicinity. As a summary … a beautiful holiday cottage which is an excellent starting point for visiting, for biking (sportsmen) or simply for relaxing far from the daily worries.

Natur und Entspannung

Wir haben im Juni/Juli 2 Wochen in Capitorio verbracht und uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Die Anfahrt über den ca. 2,7 km langen Schotterweg ist zwar etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig, aber wenn man Glück hat begegnet man auf dieser Strecke schon mal einem Reh. Tipp für die Anreise: Koordinaten statt Adresse ins Navi eingeben, dann findet man das Haus problemlos. Alle drei Ferienwohnungen haben separate Eingänge, so dass man wenig voneinander mitbekommt. Hier kann man Flora und Fauna in vollen Zügen genießen, ein schöner Garten mit wunderbaren Lavendel- und Rosmarinbüschen und eine tolle Aussicht tragen dazu bei. Die Anzahl der Vögel, Schmetterlinge, Bienen und anderer Insekten (glücklicherweise wenig Mücken!) in dieser Gegend vermitteln den Eindruck, dass sich die Natur hier entfalten kann. Im Haus fanden wir angenehm, dass es einfach, aber geschmackvoll und zweckmäßig eingerichtet war. Hier findet man keine uralten Gewürze irgendwelcher Vormieter in der Küche, alles ist sauber und einladend. Wer vor der Anreise einkaufen möchte sollte dieses spätestens in Arcidosso tun, hier gibt es zwei größere Supermärkte. Die Wege durch die Berge erscheinen immer länger als sie es wirklich sind, dafür gibt es aber viel zu sehen! Graham, der Vermieter, ist ausgesprochen nett und hat jede Menge guter Tipps für tolle Ausflüge, außerdem kümmert er sich sofort, wenn es ein Problem gibt. Wir hatten hier einen wirklich schönen Urlaub!

Wer Urlaub in einer tollen Landschaft mit super Aussicht, ruhiger Lage und fern ab der nächsten Straßen verbingen möchte ist hier richtig! Wir verbrachten zwei Wochen im Capitorio, das uns durch seine rustikale Atmosphäre, die stil- und liebevolle Einrichtung, die Terrasse mit grandiosem Weitblick (Sonnenuntergang, je nach Sichtverhältnissen Blick bis aufs Meer bzw. in die Berge) und das lavendelduftende blüteneiche Umfeld mit verschiedenen Sitzplätzen sehr gut gefallen hat. Alles war sehr sauber und mit Graham, dem Besitzer, stand uns jederzeit ein supernetter multilingualer Ansprechpartner zur Verfügung, der uns jede Menge Tipps für lohnende Ausflüge geben konnte. Sehr empfehlenswert!!!

Sehr empfehlenswert

Wir haben ca. 2 Wochen in der Ferienwohnung Capitorio verbracht. Unsere Ansprüche/Erwartungen nach Ruhe, Natur, aber auch an die (liebevoll eingerichtete und urgemütliche) Ferienwohnung sowie d. Anwesen selbst wurden in jeder Hinsicht erfüllt und entsprachen exakt den Beschreibungen des Vermieters Graham. Dieser stand uns jederzeit mit Rat und Tat zur Seite. Ein nettes Gespräch war immer drin, und wir haben nicht zuletzt durch Graham viel über Land und Leute erfahren können. Die Natur mit vielfältigen Sehenswürdigkeiten, ob Berge, Tierwelt oder die Landschaft generell, hier haben wir uns wohlgefühlt. Es gab viele schöne Ortschaften und Städte zu bestaunen. Wenn auch teils längere Anfahrten dafür in Kauf zu nehmen sind, war dies für uns stets lohnenswert, ebenso wie die Mitnahme eines Reiseführers. Der kostenlose WLAN-Zugang hat uns gut gefallen. Sollte unser Urlaubsziel wieder einmal die südliche Toskana werden, kommen wir sehr gerne wieder. Mathias und Jutta

Wonderful stay at Capitorio Cottage

We thoroughly enjoyed our week's time at the Capitorio Cottage. The cottage exceeded our expectations; light filled, immaculate, great kitchen to cook in and stunning grounds. We were even able to build a fire in the evenings when it would get a little chilly. Graham, the host, was so helpful and very personable. It was such a pleasure to be surrounded by all the nature and quiet. This is an ideal place for people looking to stay in a beautiful quiet setting that is a little off the beaten path. The village of Roccalbegna had a wonderful little pizzeria and trattoria that we frequented. Wonderful trails to hike. And all within an hours + drive to Sienna and more touristy areas. This was a real oasis and we feel very fortunate to have been able to stay here. We highly recommend staying here to future travelers.

... nur die Grillen sind zu hören!

Als wir nach einer Unterkunft für unseren Toskana-Urlaub gesucht und Graham's "Capitorio" entdeckt haben, waren wir uns einig: das ist das Richtige! Und wir haben unsere Entscheidung nicht bereut: Podere Sant' Angelo ist ein gepflegtes Anwesen inmitten eines liebevoll gestalteten Gartens mit vielen Blumen und aromatischen Kräutern (die ab und an auch den Weg in unsere Kochtöpfe fanden). Die Ferienwohnung selbst, ursprünglich Teil einer Scheune, wurde überlegt und mit Sorgfalt umgebaut (Landhausstil) und bietet alles Notwendige für einen angenehmen Aufenthalt. Besonders schön ist die Terrasse mit einem großartigen Blick auf den Monte Labbro und die umliegenden Berge, auf der man die herrliche Ruhe genießen und die Annäherungsversuche der Eidechsen beobachten kann. Graham war uns ein wundervoller Gastgeber – höflich, zurückhaltend und immer hilfsbereits bei Fragen zu interessanten Sehenswürdigkeiten oder empfehlenswerten Restaurants (unser Favorit ist "La Grotta" im nahe gelegenen Roccalbegna). Kurzum: Wer einen ruhigen und entspannten Urlaub mit abwechslungsreichen Ausflugsmöglichkeiten verbringen möchte, vielleicht auch noch gerne wandert oder radfährt, dem können wir das Podere Sant' Angelo als Unterkunft uneingeschränkt empfehlen. Un'oasi tra i profumi di erbe aromatiche.

Capitorio, che ci ha ospitato per due settimane, è stata un'oasi di bellezza e quiete nella natura con i suoi suoni e profumi. I colori dei tramonti e la bellezza dello sguardo aperto sulla valle e le colline ci hanno regalato benessere e serenità. Graham ci ha accolti con familiarità e un grande sorriso, sempre disponibile e rispettoso della privacy e affabile in piacevoli conversazioni. I suoi modi gentili e cortesi ben si rispecchiano nel bellissimo giardino di piante, fiori ed erbe aromatiche, curato con amore e dedizione. Capitorio è stato esattamente quello che desideravamo, accogliente, silenzioso, luminoso, spazioso, fresco, confortevole e intimo. Il contesto ideale per chi ama la natura e desidera riposo per il corpo e la mente.

Tuscan Holiday

I have had two holidays in Tuscany and both times I have stayed at Podera Sant' Angelo. The cottages are clean, modern (in Tuscan style) and well maintained. Graham, the owner, lives close by and will assist you with his extensive local knowledge, find hidden attractions, events and restaurants. If you want a break well away from the rat race, this is the place to go, no traffic, no crowds. The closest town, Roccalbegna, is a short drive (15 minutes away), Casteldelpiano, 40 minutes and Montepulchiano 1 hour, all worth visiting. For a challenging walk or cycle ride, Monte Amiata is 40 minutes away. Driving from Rome or Pisa will take you roughly two and a half hours but your destination is well worth the drive.

Capitorio review - Leigh & Michele

We spent a great week here in August this year. The peacefullness of the cottage made a great break between stays in Florence & Rome. The pictures on the website don't do the place justice, it was converted to a high standard. We found Graham very helpful for tips around the area & further a field in Italy.

Magnifique endroit !

Nous avons passé 3 merveilleuses semaines dans un cadre enchanteur, en pleine nature, accueillis très chaleureusement par Graham, qui nous a indiqué tous les bons plans balades et gastronomiques de la région. Le gîte était d'une propreté irréprochable, la connection à Internet était réellement un plus, et nos 2 jeunes enfants ont pu profiter du jardin en toute sécurité. La vue sur le Mont Labbro et ses alentours est superbe, l'endroit très calme, rythmé par le tintement des clochettes des brebis de passage, et le chant des cigales... Le coucher du soleil était un moment magique ! Nous avons aimé les chutes de Saturnia, les tombeaux Etrusques de Sovana, les villages de Roccalbegna, Arcidosso, Castel del Piano, et nous avons pu aller aussi jusqu'à Rome et Florence !

Relaxing accomodation, business or pleasure

Having been back twice now, I would highly recommend a stay in this quaint and relaxing accomodation. The service I received while there was some of the best I have experienced and Graham is extremely accomodating and friendly. I have stayed in both cottages and equally they are beautifully designed to fit in with the surroundings, very clean and cosy. Graham knows all the restaurants and sights in the area and was particularily great at introducing or directing us to these. This part of Tuscany is extremely beautiful all year round. I especially like my trip in December just as Tuscany starts getting festive. This is the perfect place to stay in the area, either to relax or if on business, to focus. Grahams Wi-fi is no doubt the best in the area and I was able to do everything I needed while there. I espeically like the fact it sits on the edge of a valley, waking up to such a perfect picture like landscape was definately a highlight!

Zolferate - 'a hidden paradise'

Everything was as detailed in the property description. The property was clean & well-maintained. The owner provided good customer service. I would recommend this property to a friend. We liked a lot the restaurant 'novecento' in Semproniano. Nice walks in the local nature parks.

I've been enjoying life here at Podere Sant'Angelo now for over ten years and enjoy sharing my experiences of Maremma, where to eat and lovely places to visit, with guests.

Why they chose this property

Podere Sant'Angelo has wonderful views, and, as it faces west, enjoys amazing sunsets. The peace and quiet here have to be experienced to be believed and help all guests to relax and take on the slowed-down rhythms of the area. We're hidden away 700m high in the maremma hills, even during the hottest summer days we enjoy cool summer evenings.

What makes this property unique

This part of Tuscany is still off the regular tourist trail and, as such, offers a glimpse into life in this wilder, more remote part of Tuscany. The small family run trattorie round about offer delicious home made cooking at very reasonable prices. The countryside isn't heavily farmed and there's an amazing variety of butterflies and insects in general to be seen here, the praying mantis is a favourite, as are the gekkoes that dart around the property in the summer months. There's no light pollution round here, guests often remark on the clarity of the night skies and the wonder of the Milky Way that stretches over the main house.
