About this property

Swingbridge View - Beautiful 2 Bedroom Apartment in the Heart of Whitby

Swingbridge View is a lovely apartment in a Grade II listed building located on Sandgate in the heart of Whitby. Right by the famous swingbridge, the accommodation is all on one floor (first floor) with amazing views from the lounge windows of the River Esk harbour, the swingbridge and the west cliff.
The two bedroom (1 double & 1 Twin beds) apartment sleeps 4 and is furnished to a high standard using quality appliances and top quality furnishings. It is available all year round and we have central heating in all rooms. Equipment includes full size electric cooker, 42inch tv, Satellite Freeview tv, DVD player & WIFI. All gas and electricity is included.
Binoculars are provided to sit and take in the amazing view from the lounge!
Sorry but not suitable for pets..

Swingbridge View is located right in the centre of Whitby which means you are conveniently positioned to enjoy everything Whitby has to offer by just stepping out of the front door. Enjoy the historic streets in the old town of the East Cliff crammed full of exquisite little shops selling everything from Whitby rock to the world renowned Whitby Jet jewellery. Then take a deep breath and enjoy the 199 steps to the famous Abbey.
A quick walk the other way over the swingbridge will take you to the bustling West Cliff with a wealth of shops and restaurants on offer along with seaside amusements, boat rides, ice cream and arguably the best fish and chip shops in England!
Quite literally a stones throw from the apartment there are dozens of excellent restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets. A real gem around the corner on Church Street is a tiny little place called ‘The Humble Pie’. If you like simple pie and peas this is the place for you although getting a table may be tricky!
People always ask ‘which is the best fish and chip shop?’. Well, there’s the world famous ‘Magpie’ across the harbour if you don’t mind the queues but just as good are Hadley’s across the road or the ‘Quayside’ just over the bridge near the fortune teller!
Over the bridge to the right takes you along Haggersgate onto Pier Road past the amusement arcades and the fascinating RNLI museum. Here you can either walk up the Khyber Pass to the ‘Whale’s Jawbone’ and some stunning views of Whitby or keep going to the west harbour wall and lighthouse. Here you will find Whitby beach which has a lifeguard in the summer months and is fairly safe for swimming. There are donkey rides and even beach huts! Just watch out for the chip stealing seagulls. (Don’t feed them, it’s frowned upon by the locals.)
Don’t forget to visit the Dracula experience and the Captain Cook museum and for the brave there’s even the Robin Hoods Bay Ghost Walk. There are fishing trips, fossil hunting, the Whitby Museum at Pannet Park, golfing and even rock climbing.
You can also take a trip down to Tate Sands, below the Abbey, where Dracula's ship was wrecked according to the legend by Bram Stoker who was inspired by the mystery of Whitby.
When the bell rings sit at the lounge window with a drink to watch the bridge opening and the yachts going out to sea and the fishermen returning with their catch in the evening.
There really is something for everyone here in Whitby, please find a selection of leaflets on the desk in the hallway for some ideas to start with!

Fabulous property in ideal location
I am loathe to review this flat as I don’t want to draw it to the attention of others in case we can’t get it for our trips!! Seriously though, you will not be disappointed if you stay here. The property is spacious, super comfortable and super clean with amazing views from the windows in the lounge. Excellent bathroom with proper sized towels, super comfy beds with pristine white linen and a well appointed kitchen. Not sure how many times we’ve stayed now but it’s absolutely our go to place and we have already booked for Summer 2024 and Feb 2025. The location is perfect - car parks are a short walk as is the CoOp supermarket and all the delights of Church Street are on your doorstep.

Why they chose this property

After 10 years in Spain I had been looking for a property in Whitby and it took 2 years before I found the right place. Swingbridge View is one of the best apartments I have stayed in during 45 years visiting Whitby.

What makes this property unique

From the entrance off beautiful Sandgate to the Lounge with its 12ft ceilings and breathtaking view of the historic swingbridge, harbour and famous west cliff the location of the apartment really is something else.
