This beautifully restored Victorian townhouse with it’s fine period features is set in the heart of York. The famous York Minster is a 2 minute walk away along with a selection of fine restaurants, designer / gift shops and pubs within a few metres.
Nearby Millers Yard (10metres) is a centre for positive living, offering treatment rooms for health and beauty and complementary therapies. High Heels can easily be worn at Minster Bells as the bars/restaurants are on your doorstep. In fact the house is closer to town than the actual car parks. Minster Bells is also ideal for family holidays, it is close to the art gallery, the National Railway Museum transfer terminal, Theatre Royal and Bootham Bar (with access to the walled walk). Bootham Bar leads you into the famous narrow cobbled streets full of a quirky mix of curio shops and cafes with street entertainers, the Shambles, museums, the Yorvik Viking centre and so much more within a short distance.

Thank you for staying at and looking after Minster Bells so well. We hope that you will come and stay again very soon. We are pleased you took full advantage of it’s location.
This is a great house which is only a few minutes from the centre of York, in an area with lots of interesting shops and cafes. We had great communication from the owner and everything we needed was there.

It was lovely you could finally stay after a very dysfunctional year due to covid! If your course is resurrected, you know where we are and it would be lovely to have you back again.
The location of the house is excellent. We were able to walk to all the sights and .amenities in this magical city at Christmas time. Accommodation was very suitable for our family, spacious, clean and comfortable. We all enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning

Thank you Clare for such a lovely review. It has been a tricky year for the industry and so it’s lovely to welcome groups back again to stay at Minster Bells and it’s even nicer to hear that you all had a good stay. Hope to see you again one day!
We had a wonderful stay at 33 Gillygate! The location was perfect — close to mention nearby attractions making it easy to explore the area. The house was exactly as described: clean, cozy, and well-equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Janet was an excellent host — very responsive, friendly, and helpful with local tips and recommendations. Check-in and check-out were smooth and hassle-free.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Minster Bells. The location in the city centre was fantastic and the house was ideally appointed with everything we needed for our stay. Janet, our host, was wonderful, always on hand to answer our questions quickly. We can highly recommend this property - suitable for family and friends alike.
Thank you for staying at Minster Bells and I'm pleased you liked the central location.
As we have groups of up to 9 guests visiting (from all over the world), then things can go wrong very quickly if guests are not aware of potential problems or if they arrive with their own agendas (and deliberately disregard the information provided). As the house is so central within a busy City Centre, there is always a risk that security at the house is contravened by guests, parking issues occur (which could also result in fines), neighbours are disturbed and vermin is attracted to the house if rubbish is carelessly disposed of. We try to provide as much transparent information as possible to ensure that guests are aware of any potential issues and also to ensure that both guests and residents can peacefully enjoy the central location.
Once again we enjoyed this lovely property. It's in a wonderful location, it's warm, cozy and just right for a city break. The host is super helpful. Highly recommended
Good communication from host.Amazing central location and directions and how to find garage were very helpful.House is lovely, in December there was a definite change in temperature between 2nd and 3rd floor so bit on chilly side.Could do with couple more dishes to cook for large numbers but generally everything we neede in kitchen

Hi Shelly. Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. I am sorry to hear that the house felt chillier on the top floor. We have just have some works done on the boiler and it was an easy fix to correct the issue. I went straight over this morning to check the above issue and also to check on the ‘dishes’ as I know the various cupboards are crammed full. I am not sure what you mean exactly by dishes but there are about 20 of each of plates, bowls, side plates and a number of platters, pirex dishes, large bowls etc (as well as 11 pans). Perhaps the previous guests to you had spread them out somewhat all over the kitchen. Best wishes Janet
Beautiful building in a perfect location. Very spacious for a large group-even with 9 of us it was ample big enough. Plenty of car parking, local shop, pubs and food nearby. Host friendly and responsive. Would recommend.
This was an excellent stay and the location is unbeatable. Janet was excellent and you can’t beat a basket of goodies when you arrive. Coming in late and having a few thing’s waiting for you like pop bread and milk is precious. Janet we will definitely be back the next time we come. Thank you for everything you did.
The owner of the property was extremely helpful and happy to help if/when needed. The property is in reasonable order but would benefit from a refresh in terms of decor, fixtures and fittings eg improve lighting in 1st floor bathroom, install power shower to compensate for poor water pressure. Being able to park securely was a major bonus.

Hi John, thank you for your review and feed back. The water pressure in the area isn’t top notch and is something we have asked Yorkshire Water to look in to. Unfortunately there is also the issue with ‘the laws of gravity’ as Minster Bells is a 4 storey building . We have installed a water pump at the property which is by the boiler in the kitchen. I wonder if this has accidentally been switched off? A power shower would indeed be a luxury but not always practical to fit within such an old Victorian building as there will be lots of logistics involved. I am pleased you made good use of the secure parking and hopefully you enjoyed everything that York has to offer on your doorstep. 😊
Great location with parking for 2 cars. Short walk to the Minster and other attractions. Large kitchen table ideal for the entire group to use together and the kitchen has everything that is required though is a little cramped. Mattresses were ok but could do with replacing. Light in main bathroom is poor.

Thank you for your review Matthew and I’m pleased you enjoyed the proximity of the house to all of the local attractions. We leave a feedback questionnaire for every single group that stays and I do not recollect the bathroom light being reported. However, we were able to action the issue as soon as we received your review and found that half of the light bulb had somehow blown. I apologise if this caused issues for you during your stay as it was indeed dim and is now all replaced.
Excellent property and location. Comfortable, warm and well equipped.
Access to the property both back and front and to the bedrooms involved a lot of stairs of which we were aware of. Fortunately we are a fairly physically fit party of senior ladies who are not challenged by stairs. Highly recommend .
