Great stay. Great access to the slopes and resort village. Mix of updated and outdated decor and amenities, as expected. Updated bathrooms were nice. Large square kitchen table was excellent for hours of card playing. Hot tub was simple to work and very relaxing. Super accommodating owner. Very helpful every step of the way. Would stay again.

Pedals and paws was good

The location was excellent. House was clean and communication was very good. There was plenty of room and nice that everyone had a bathroom. The deer were a wildlife bonus and very tame. House had everything we needed for a long weekend stay.

Wonderful House

Had a great time. Nice clean house steps from the ski trails. Only downside is we had some rain, so would definitely rent again to get a full weekend of skiing. Thanks!

Smelly

The location was great considering wedding at the Overlook Barn. The house smells like a musty wet basement. I was miserable. Also, the house was not exactly clean and the hot tub was dirty. We were disappointed. I didn’t mind the steep stairs, got some good exercise all week. It might be OK for a group of kids skiing, but not for us. Disappointed.

Winter Wonderland

We had a great stay. The house was very clean. Had a small issue getting fireplace to work but owner was quick to respond and we got it working quickly. The fireplace was so cozy and we loved it. We had 2 3 year olds with us that did the ski kamp at Beech Mountain. It was a bit of a challenge to get them up the hill back to the house, but it was really nice not to have to drive anywhere. The hot tub was so nice and it was so peaceful being in there surrounded by winter wonderland. They had little sleds to use and our girls had a fun time using them. The house is also a short drive to nearby restaurants. Thank you for making our trip memorable :)

Cute cabin right on the ski slopes!

This was the perfect place for our short Labor Day weekend getaway to Beech Mountain! We very much enjoyed our stay here and were happy that we got to bring our pups along. The back deck is wonderful for grilling out, drinking coffee, and stargazing. The front fenced in area made it easy to let the pups out for bathroom breaks. Be aware that there are stairs to get down to the cabin, so this might not be the best location for anyone who has trouble walking or climbing stairs. Also, one of our small (and troublemaking) dogs was able to slip through the fence rails and did escape a couple times. There wasn’t really anywhere for her to go, but just make sure you keep an eye on any smaller dogs. 😅

Very nice house and location is the very best on Beech Mountain!!

Have already booked it again for next year! Everyone in our family of 8 enjoyed everything about this house and ask me to book this property for next year's annual ski trip. Very short walk to slopes which was great. Ski, come in and rest and out to ski more. House is very nice, the kitchen had everything needed. All appliances were new or almost new and worked great. Washer/Dryer also new and came in handy often. Hot tub was clean and perfect at the end of the day. Grill on deck with propane was also great. Not many restaurants in the area to feed hungry skiers so this was really a nice feature. The owner is also extremely helpful and goes out of her way to make sure your visit is enjoyable. Look no future, this is a great place to stay.!

Birthday ski trip

Another family ski trip to celebrate our daughters birthday on Beech Mountain. We try to stay in a ski in/ski out every year. Yes, this house is technically a ski in/ski out, IF there is plenty of natural snow on the ground. If not, you have a short walk down the road and a bit of tricky walk down the path in the woods. There is a creek running down the path and you have to maneuver down a slight hill and we had to walk through the creek/water to get to the slope. Which is the Upper Powder Bowl slope. You can also access the new Carolina Caribbean slope by walking down the backyard, again a bit tricky but it comes out at the top this new beginner trail and you can ski down to any of the lifts. This carpet lift stops running at 5pm, so if you are skiing after that, the path from Upper Powder Bowl is how to get home. New lift system works really well, long lines on a Saturday move pretty quick. As for the house, it fit our family of 8 very well, bedrooms were comfortable, bathrooms had the essentials, living room was big enough for us all to gather and play games and kitchen was well stocked. Host was quick and easy to communicate with. We did not have any pets but the cozy little sleep area and fenced in front yard are very nice.

Fun times!

We enjoyed our stay at the house. It fit our family perfect. I few things to note. It's not a true ski in ski out house. It was tough climbing back up and walking to the house in ski boots. We had to drive to Banner Elk to get propane because both tanks were empty. For family time/tv time the TV is too small. They need a large flat screen on the wall and remove the armoire. Parking is limited to 3 cars/one being sideways behind our two cars so if family is coming from somewhere else just be aware. The drier had an issue and the service people were to be there between 1 and 5 and they showed at 5 right in the middle of cooking dinner so that was an interruption but that can't be helped. The neighbors across the way had some type of exterminating going and the pest control people ran a large noisy truck the entire day which was super annoying. Behind the house is the park so the pullies are going 12 hours a day and clank every 5 minutes. Overall the house was really good and the owners were very responsive.

Charming House in Outstanding Location

This charming house is spacious and comfortable with a wonderful view, ski in ski out and a short walk to Fred’s Alpen Hotel, and Top of the Beech, in a wooded neighborhood with deer grazing all around. It is well furnished with a well stocked kitchen as well. We plan to return often.

Perfect Quiet Getaway w Family & Dogs

From check-in to checkout, our stay was perfect! Communication with the owner was excellent and prompt. The house was clean and exactly as advertised. The kitchen and laundry were well-stocked (thank you!). The square kitchen table is nice and large, seating eight. The deck was outfitted with plenty of seating, and it was private and quiet. The beds were extremely comfortable. Our Collies (and Mom and Dad) LOVED the gated area where they could potty safely as well as the secure deck where they could lay in the sun and sleep. The only word of caution would be for the steep steps leading from the parking area to the front door. After that-perfection!

Great Spot

We ended up walking down the back of the house rather than the trail and the end of the road to catch the slopes. Pretty steep hill, could use some small steps to get up and down. House was clean, refrigerator ice machine did not work. Otherwise everything was great and exactly as listed. Thanks for letting us stay at your home. Would stay again!

About the host

Hosted by Betty Trueba

Host profile image
Carlos and Betty have been married for 41 years and have a beautiful family that has been expanding these past few years. Nicole, our eldest, has three children and Valerie, has two. We enjoy traveling, skiing, mountain biking, and running (not Carlos though). Most of all, we love our two American Bulldogs, Mimi (who passed away on August 3, 2021 from cancer) and Junior, (passed away June 6, 2022) who are always excited to join us on our travel adventures and have already visited quite a few states in our travel trailer. We have adopted Hannah, an American Staffordshire from a rescue, as of 2019. and in 2020, purchased another vacation home in Flagler Beach, Florida (not rentable) which we use often. Between Beech and the beach, we always enjoy our homes away from home.

Why they chose this property

North Carolina has always tugged at their hearts having visited the area often with their family. This past winter, after visiting the vacant lot they own in RiverBend at Lake Lure, Carlos and Betty decided it was time to build the cabin of their dreams. They continued their Christmas vacation to Beech Mountain discussing their plans and stayed at the Treehouse Condominiums near Kick Turn Lane. They had visited this area before and had even vacationed in the cabin nearest the slopes in 2005. While going through a real estate brochure, Betty found that 106 was on sale and the rest is history. They were able to do a quick walk through and immediately upon their return to Miami, decided to purchase the cabin, realizing this was their dream home and location. Eager to share in their good fortune, the Truebas have opened their home to other families and guests looking to enjoy the beauty of North Carolina.

What makes this property unique

Ski, Pedals 'n Paws offers the best of all worlds . Enjoy all the outdoor activities close by and then come home and relax by the fire. Best of all, your pets will always be welcome regardless of breed, since Betty often fosters and rescues dogs back in Miami.
