About this property
HOLIDAYS IN AN ANCIENT TUSCAN FARM - THE LAKE
The large apartment (165 square meters) is spread over two floors connected by a stone staircase inside the Podere Belvedere of the Fattoria di Peruzzo. It takes its name from the artificial lake which is located in the fields below, beyond which a wide panorama extends to the sea. The apartment occupies the central body of the building built at the end of the nineteenth century for the families of farmers on the farm. It preserves the original structure, with terracotta floors, ceilings with wooden beams and a stone staircase that connects the living area on the ground floor with the bedrooms on the first floor. On the garden level there are the living-dining room with a peasant fireplace with a wood-burning oven, the eat-in kitchen with hob and dishwasher, a twin bedroom and a small bathroom with washing machine. On the first floor there are two double bedrooms, a twin bedroom and two bathrooms, one with a bathtub and one with a shower. The bedroom with the canopy bed is particularly romantic, communicating with a small study from whose window you can see the castle of Montemassi.
At the back of the building, the kitchen overlooks a paved area with table and chairs, an old fountain and a barbecue, suitable for feasting in the shade of a grape pergola. Another pergola is located at the front of the building, to repair a large terracotta sidewalk with tables and benches. Around a meadow with fruit trees and flowering hedges, which overlooks the plain below and looks on one side towards the fortress of Montemassi, on the other up to the sea (where on clear days the shape of the island of Giglio also stands out) .
The Peruzzo farm is the centerpiece of the ancient Peruzzo estate which, starting from the plain, extends between vineyards, olive groves, cork and Mediterranean scrub woods between the castles of Montemassi, Roccatederighi and Sassofortino. Located 300 meters above sea level, which appears in front of it with the shape of the island of Giglio, it dominates the plain below, extending for an area of about 500 hectares in a still intact and unspoiled natural environment. In Peruzzo you can spend a quiet holiday, relax in the swimming pool or read in the garden in the shade of pergolas and plants, or go on suggestive naturalistic itineraries, on foot, by bicycle or on horseback. A part of the old farm is reserved for guests, surrounded by a large park, and a little further upstream, immersed in the shade of the woods, four farmhouses divided into recently renovated apartments. The buildings, built in the nineteenth century in stone and terracotta, maintain the typical characteristics of Tuscan farmhouses and the traditional furnishings of country houses, partly from family furniture. The apartments, which can accommodate from 2 to 8 people, are independent and equipped with every comfort. Each one overlooks a private garden, with ever green, irrigated and shaved lawns, centenary trees and flowering bushes in all seasons. Inside the enclosures live two horses, the Maremma cows, a donkey from the Amiata and deer, fallow deer, mouflons, roe deer and wild boars. In the aviaries there are turtle doves and various species of birds. The sea is not far away and so are the many places of artistic, archaeological and naturalistic interest in which the Maremma is rich. The most famous tourist destinations, such as Siena, Florence, Pisa, Lucca, Volterra, Montalcino, Pienza and even Rome, can be reached within the day.
