We have owned this house since 1980 and have had many happy summers at the beaches and pond nearby. We added a huge family room, kitchen eating area and back deck in anticipation of our growing family and we spent most of their time there enjoying views on three sides! I am a retired energy conservation engineer working for a large company but I am now travelling a lot (business and pleasure) so sharing our home for others to enjoy is perfect for us.

I moved to Marblehead in 1977 after graduating from University of Illinois, when I fell in love at first sight with the charm and beauty of Marblehead. I have never tired of seeing and smelling the ocean next door and always feel that "Ahhhh!" moment when I drive past Grace Oliver Beach around the corner fromour house after a long hard day at work.

Why they chose this property

The neighborhood is filled with young children and everyone is very friendly and protective of each other. We are all professionals in the neighborhood and we live here because while the home is near the central Historic District, we all love the open areas and countryside feel of the neighborhood. It is a very quiet neighborhood and many of my neighbors have never locked their front doors! That's why I always feel safe and welcome here in this little gem of a neighborhood in beautiful Marblehead. You will too!

What makes this property unique

This historic 1876 house always draws a "Wow!" when people first see it. It's a central-entrance Greek Revival Colonial with period architcetural features, but beautifully maintained and retaining all the original interior features that made it special in 1876: exterior pediments and dentils, wood shutters that still work, interior mouldings, and many built-ins that make living here both beautiful and convenient.

We added a huge family room that adjoins the conveniently designed kitchen and allows all 12 guests to join together for conversation and indoor activities. An outdoor deck is right off the family room and has couches, chairs and tables for everyone to enjoy outdoor relaxing and eating.

A spectacular, skylighted 3rd floor attic has been added as a child's game room or TV room, away from the adjults, and provides ping pong and foosball tables and comfortable seating.

The best feature, however, is the location - walkable to everything great about Marblehead and in the Historic District. Salem, Massachusetts is a short drive away by car or by public transportation, and Boston can be accessed by a nearby bus line and subway system, therby eliminating the need to have a car.

There are so many unique hidden walkways and stairs in Marblehead that you will undoubtedly spend many hours exploring the neighborhood and each time you will find something interesting you missed the last time!
