About this property
Escape to BEAUTIFUL Northern Michigan!!
Enjoy the sunrise each morning at this comfortable family cottage, located at the west end of Big Platte Lake with 100' of sunny, sandy beach front. Located down a beautiful, private wooded road - away from all traffic and noise.
Lake gradually deepens, so there is plenty of shallow water for safe play. Very special location - at the end of a private cul-de-sac backed by beautiful woods.
Cottage has brand new kitchen and has an open dining/living room floor plan great for family gatherings. Kitchen is fully equipped to cook for your party! There is charcoal grill for any outdoor cooking you might have!
This cottage is lovingly family-owned and maintained. In 2021 we completely replaced the kitchen. The cottage is comfortable and clean, but the star of this property is its location and private frontage on Platte Lake. Arguably the best spot on the lake!
* Pontoon is family owned and is not available for use or rent. * Additional pet fee of $100 per pet.

We had a terrific stay at this cottage. Host was great with communication and listing was accurate. We were very comfortable here. The canoes on the property were a big hit for my family.
Our stay was amazing a peaceful and quite street, with friendly neighbors. Our kids and dogs loved swimming in the lake. The drive to sleeping bear dunes was amazing. Would definitely stay here again.
Great house for our family. The beach worked out great for my daughters and son, they loved playing in the water and catching minnows. The updated kitchen and dock was nice. Thanks for great memories with my family before baby #4 arrives

Thanks for your feedback, Dan. So glad you enjoyed your time at Tocco's Catch! We have since replaced all of the mattresses with memory foam. You will sleep extremely well on your next stay with us! :)
Truly a slice of heaven.
My family really enjoyed the Tocco cottage.
The cottage was amazing. Everything we needed was there, the beds were very comfortable.
The location is perfect. The beach and lake were wonderful,we kayaked the lake and river.
Just a perfect vacation cottage
Large lot with a beautiful view. Quiet spot. Had a new kitchen and large living area. Spent most of our time sight seeing but enjoyed coming back to the cottage to relax.
Great location and updated kitchen now. House is great for families and young kids. Beach is great for digging and playing and water is shallow . Will be going again next yr.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The cottage is a bit dated and lacks AC but we appreciated the updated kitchen which allowed us to cook some meals in. The lake is beautiful and access was made super convenient with a new dock and platform. We brought our paddleboards and loved the easy access. So thankful we could bring our dogs. If you bring yours, watch for the poison ivy around the perimeter of the yard. All in all, it was a great stay!

nice place, great lake
Clean cottage, beds and linens need to be replaced (aged). Beach requires cleanup as weeds have grown in.
Nice having canoes and paddles available.

Thank you for the feedback, Brian. Both good recommendations. Since your departure, the beach has been rototilled, leaving the sand free from weeds. We are also have replaced all of the mattresses and bedding.
So glad you enjoyed your stay and we are happy to make the enhancements you recommend.
Property was a bit old…no AC with some of the hottest days on record. Cooled back down after a few days. Great job with linens, towels, and supplies. Layout of the house was fine…but just old. Would definitely stay again, though.

Hello, Paul. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We are happy to hear that you were pleased with the linens, towels, and supplies. We want you to roll right in and feel like you are on vacation. As per our listing, we do not have air conditioning. There are very few days out of the year that it is necessary up north. We are pleased to share with our guests the cozy cottage that my grandfather built in 1967. It is truly an exceptional, authentic up-north cottage experience.
Pros: Beautiful location, great beach and lake, perfect for children, great neighbors, kitchen updated and well stocked with dishes, etc. Good shower with plenty of hot water
Cons: Cottage is old, could be cleaner, well water undrinkable and yellow, washer and dryer ruined some of our clothing, hot water is scalding so be careful little ones don’t get burned
Quiet place at the end of a quiet private road. Beautiful lake views. Liked the very clean screened gazebo with plenty of comfy chairs to relax in as you view the lake. Lots of room to play on the lawn by the lake. Has a sandy beach. Plenty of chairs on the deck and by large fire pit. New kitchen is very nice. Not much lighting though. Could use more updating in the house, especially in bedrooms, but overall, a positive experience.
We had a great time at Platte Lake! This is the third time we have stayed at this cottage. It is close to the dunes and tubing/kayaking down the Platte River. We went to Frankfort for ice cream and to watch the sunset.(Such a cute little town!) We discovered Point Betsie beach on Lake Michigan and went rock hunting. All of this is within a 15 min drive. The cottage was clean with some new updates and has a sweet charm. The lake is shallow in front of the cottage (and warm the week we were there) and great for families with young ones. We would recommend highly!

Loved our Stay at Tocco's Catch
We have been vacationing on Platte Lake for over 30 years, and my husbands family 30 years before that! So we have stayed many places around Platte Lake, but Tocco's Catch has been one of our favorites and best vacations yet!
The house accommodations suited our family of 8, loved the big table we all could eat at! the kitchen had plenty utensils and dishes to make meals for all of us!
But our favorite part of our stay was the yard, beach, shallow entrance into the lake and the dock! This side of Platte lake is so calm and enjoyable, we LOVED IT! And will definitely be back! Thank you for sharing your little piece of HEAVEN with us!

Liked: Check-in, communication, location
Disliked: Cleanliness
Older cottage in need of updates. Well equipped, kitchen nicely renovated. Baths need work; sink clogged, tiny sinks and older cabinets. Beautiful outdoor space on lake, but tables, chairs and grille very dirty. No AC, but the four large fans had to be cleaned before using. Front door very hard to open as it was warped. Couches were old, but queen bed was nice and comfortable . Windows old and dirty. Dining room chairs need replacing.

For price of renting bedrooms shd b nicer. No place to put clothes BR furniture a disaster. Bathrooms need to be cleaner and rugs in BR are really bad. Did not see one fire detector or carbon monoxide detector. Location fabulous, overall place ok not great. A bear came into yard and and a raccoon was able to enter through the disastrous windows.Laundry facility not great. Again for the price they are getting there are areas that need a lot of work.

Hello, Rebecca. Thank you for your feedback.
This place was built by my Grandfather over 50 years ago and it is now my honor to steward it. It is a classic cottage in that regard - not a hotel - exactly as described in our description and pictures provided. We will do our best to improve storage for clothes in the bedrooms. As for detectors, we have them, per code. As for wildlife, we have reached out to DNR for help, as a bear is beyond our scope as homeowners.
We do our best to manage expenses (such as a brand-new kitchen two years ago and a $35,000 dock we installed this year) as we can. I'm sure you understand that this is not a hotel, but a family-owned cottage with real life expenses and issues that come up with being a lake cottage in the woods (i.e. wildlife, etc.).
Once again, I thank you for your feedback and look forward to implementing your ideas in the future.

2/10 Terrible

Not well kept. Very disappointed. Should not be rented.
Cluttered, not clean. No towels till we found them in the dryer on Monday. Rugs in bathrooms dirty. Sheets on lower bunks used, we washed them. Sticky kitchen floor. Dirty carpet, we all had black feet. Mattress on queen bed should be replaced. Fans are filthy. 4-slice toaster only works for 2 slices. Seems to be a family retreat that no one takes care of, just rents.
We had to ignore so much negativity as we were tied to this rental with no alternative, We traveled 500 miles expecting a nice place to stay. Can't imagine VRBO advertising this place posting POSITIVE reviews.

Thank you for your feedback. My apologies that you were unsatisfied with your stay.
We received a 5 star rating from the guests that stayed the week before you. There seems to have been an issue with our cleaning crew this week and I will be communicating your complaints with them and fixing the problem. Had you let me know these issues sooner (I am reading this two weeks after your check-out), I would have sent my cleaning team over to address the situation right away. I reached out to you the morning you arrived to see how things were going, but never heard back. Most of your issues could have been solved the day you checked in.
As for the queen mattress, it has since been replaced with a new, 12" memory foam mattress. As for the toaster, my apologies that only two of the four openings are working.
Once again, thank you for your helpful feedback and my apologies for the issues you faced during your stay.
UPDATE: This renter attempted to get a refund from American Express. I sent the company all of our correspondence. They ruled in my favor.
I ALWAYS reach out to my renters on the day they check in, just as I did with this renter, to make sure everything is to their satisfaction. Several times over the past 10 years of running this rental property I have sent out a cleaner to address issues that renters have had with the property. I don’t stop until they are satisfied. I would have done the same for this renter had she only communicated with me. Also, there have been several instances where I have made a partial refund in order to make amends for things not being up to the standards of the renters. I undoubtedly would have done this for this renter if she had only communicated her dissatisfaction in time for me to have done anything about it.
Thank you so much for sharing your cabin with us! We had a terrific week. I loved knowing that your grandpa built this place ...can you imagine doing that on your own?! The cabin was just wonderful and the lake was amazing
Great location, very quiet and peaceful. We can tell it would be fun in the warmer months to use the waterfront. Overall great place, it is apparent through the historical photos that improvements have been done over the years and a lot of memories are made here.
My friends and I rented the house for a birthday fishing trip weekend. The house was clean, comfortable and just what we needed! Close to the fishing sites, able to bring our own boats to fish the lake or do some kayaking. We met the owners the last morning of our stay and they were super friendly. Would highly recommend and will be looking to book again next year!
You wont find a more accommodating property owner to deal with than Gina. Cottage is comfortable and in a nice location with beautiful views.

About the host

I have been coming "Up North" my whole life. As a child I played on the sandy beaches of Lake Michigan, climbed the dunes, and splashed in the rivers and lakes that grace the area. As an adult, I now watch my two girls enjoy the same magical experiences of my childhood. I manage two properties in the area - one on Platte Lake and one on Good Harbor. My passion is to help you and your family/friends enjoy the stunning beauty that is Northern Michigan.
Why they chose this property
- classic "Up North" cottage with brand new kitchen and appliances - all-sports Platte Lake - cottage is at the end of the cul de sac - private & spacious grassy yard - sandy beach with 100 feet of private frontage - shallow entry into the lake for safe & fun kid play
