About this property

Welcome to Clifton House where your stay should be a most comfortable, relaxing and, hopefully, stress releasing experience. Located on over 5 acres of well kept grounds alive with wildlife and expansive waterviews of the creek and the Chesapeake Bay beyond , this elegant 4,000 sq ft, 4 bedroom, 2½ bath house sleeps 8 comfortably with large, high ceiling rooms, beautifully refinished wide-plank pine, wood parquet flooring, all tastefully decorated by the owners wife.

The 1st floor features a large kitchen with a fireplace and eat-in breakfast room, living/family room casually furnished, library/den, game room with pool table, and master suite with a queen. Up the flight of stairs with the original walnut banister to the 2nd floor reveals 2 large bedrooms with queens and the 3rd bedroom with 2 twins. Servicing guests' needs is a full bathroom off the hallway. This gracious property offers amenities that include an in-ground pool, freshwater pond, screened-in porch, open deck with table & chairs, gas grill. With over 1,000 ft of water frontage, there is a dock with deep water that can accommodate a variety of boats-- sail, yacht, multihull. The house, saltwater pool, lawn and well kept grounds is an ideal gathering place for a large family, group and can easily accommodate large events/venue, weddings in a beautiful waterfront setting.

This stately residence on Chesconessex Creek on Virginia's Eastern Shore dates to 1835. Known as Clifton the property was patented in 1668 to Colonel John Wise and was a plantation of over 750 acres surveyed. It is tradition that Col. Wise had built the first Clifton, naming it after his English home (A75B, pg 948 in Whitelaws). A graveyard exists today located NE of the house and contains numerous tombstones of the Wise family descendants.

Making beautiful memories at the Cliffton House
The Clifton House is like stepping into your own manor by the bay. The large 5-acre property ensures privacy and peace. Upon our arrival, the home was clean and the furniture in good condition. The house is LARGE with room for everyone in our party of 8 to spread out and relax. For 6 guests in our party, this was their second stay at the Clifton House, and they all said it was as wonderful as they all remembered. All the rooms boast gorgeous views and lots of light from the numerous windows. There is a nice set of outdoor furniture and a ceiling fan on the front screened in porch where many in our party took afternoon naps or read. The back deck has a large dining table with an umbrella which we enjoyed hanging out around when we weren’t in the enormous pool. I barely wore any of the clothes I packed as I was either in my bathing suit or pajamas😉 During our stay, every day was hot and humid, so the pool was very much appreciated. The air conditioning in the house worked great and the new appliances in the kitchen, including a gas stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, and washer dryer are all ample in size and made us feel very much at home. The house came with lots of pool floats, lounge chairs and a huge shade umbrella by the pool. The shed next to the home was filled with kayaks, paddles, and life jackets for everyone to use. The long dock was fantastic to fish off and the steps and kayak launch ramp made getting into the water a breeze. We tried to take advantage o

The Clifton House
At the end of June 2023 I had the pleasure of marrying my high school sweetheart at The Clifton House(my childhood home). The property was beautifully maintained and the pool a huge bonus. The house is how I remembered it, lovely and charming. We look forward to making Clifton House an annual destination for our family!

Beautiful Quiet Oasis
We had a beautiful vacation at Clifton. The location was fantastic with a great view of the bay off the deck. The house was equipped with all the comforts of home and we really enjoyed the pool table. The outdoor pool was great. The grounds were very well kept everything was top notch. Any minor issues we had were addressed promptly by the property manager Peter. While kayaking on the bay we were able to see all kinds of wildlife including crabs, birds, and we managed to get up close and personal with a ray! Fantastic vacation! The Brady's and Johnsons

Beautiful Historical Home
This home was so lovely to stay in. The view was amazing! the bedrooms were clean and the beds comfortable. The kitchen appliances were adequate and the pool was a great addition for a family. The Wifi wasn't great but worked as expected and the TVs always had service for those "movie nights". It would have been great to have gardens on the property, historical/period pictures, and a small display of the old tools that were laying around in the shed. The geese were abundant when we initially arrived which created a hassle walking on part of the property and difficulty controlling the flies. But seemed to stay away once we settled in. This is a pet -friendly place which is also a plus-plus. Being able to vacation with our puppy was so perfect. It is gated so we didn't have a worry to let her outside to play. We would definitely stay here again. Perhaps in the fall/winter when we can use the beautiful fireplaces.
