About this property

4 Br Home Away from Home, Next to the Ocean & Minutes from Beautiful Lakes

This home is warm, inviting and very peaceful. Located on one acre it is in a dell surrounded by apple, pear, honeysuckle and spruce trees. It is a perfect back yard for croquet (which comes with the house!) an outdoor lobster fest on the picnic table and even a swing in the hammock. The house is 100 years old with many beautiful antiques and modern updates including the two bathrooms. The main bathroom downstairs features an air jet tub and the upstairs bathroom/laundry room leads onto a deck where a nighttime view of the rising moon is not to be missed. Lounge chairs are provided for that very purpose.

The house has 4 bedrooms: one with a queen size bed, two with double beds and one with two single beds - one of which is a Captains Bed built into the wall. Loads of fun for the kids to sleep and play in! (The other single bed is low to the ground and appropriate for a toddler. The living room has a beautiful Vermont Castings wood stove and wood is provided should you have a cool morning and need to warm up. Off the living room is a favorite space of many visitors: a small but beautiful "sun room" - formerly the old entrance to the house. It is great for a morning cup of tea and reading the paper. We also provide cards, backgammon and crokinole boards, scrabble and, for fun in the yard (along with the croquet) is a horseshoe set. Most recently, we have added a beautifully tuned piano!

The house is equipped with Fibre Op Wireless Internet (and Cable TV) and the kitchen contains everything you will need for big or small dinners. Dishes for at least twelve settings, glasses galore, a popcorn popper and all utensils you will need. Stove, fridge, microwave and dish washer are included as is a propane bbq and an outdoor fire pit complete with grate for charcoal bbq'ing.

Herring Cove is blessed with several lakes in the nearby vicinity - the closest for a morning dip is only a one minute walk down the lane and the stunning Look Off/Cliff Walk, so popular with Haligonians looking to get away from it all, is just a five minute stroll up the road. Also, only a ten minute walk away is the popular Pavia Cafe and Gallery.

Aside from the fresh water swimming, outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy hiking, cycling, kayaking, freshwater & deep sea fishing, whale watching, bird watching, sailing and even windsurfing. Only 20 minutes away is Halifax's most stunning beach - Crystal Crescent Provincial Beach & Park. The hikes around the Beach go on for miles with beautiful views.

This area, only a 20 minute drive from downtown Halifax, is also just around the corner from the National Historic Fort of York Redoubt and is a perfect base for you to explore the South Shore, the Annapolis Valley and the Eastern Shore.

I know you will love the house, love the area, love Halifax and the Province. Come and enjoy!

Sweet cottage with east coast charm
So welcoming! The cottage offered everything we needed. Beautiful yard with deer for neighbours. Not far from the ocean. We felt very welcome!

Beautiful respite during Family events
My brother, myself and our folks stayed for 8 days to participate in my son's wedding celebrations in Halifax. We were greeted by Adrienne and her warm hospitality, making us feel immediately at home. The home was comfortable, possessing all that we needed and more for our 8 day stay. We made use of the yard for cooling off under the shade of the trees. We were thrilled to see several deer including 2 fawns in the yard. We had easy access to Purcells Cove Rd., taking us quickly into the city as needed. My brother also used the bus to go into town one day. Both Mary and Adrienne were easily accessible if we had any questions. We had a family gathering at the property and all who visited had positive impressions of the property. We hope to return one day. We have nothing but good things to say about this vacation experience.

Jewel of a cottage
This was a lovely cottage in a great location. It is probably the best and most thoughtfully equipped cottage we have ever stayed at. Although the weather was far from perfect, we felt relaxed and at home. The owner and property manager were a pleasure to deal with. The cottage was a short walk from one of our favorite coastal walks near Halifax - the Lookoff. The cottage was immaculate, the grounds were lovely. Really, it was perfect.

Fabulous!
We spent a month at this property and it is now my favourite rental in NS (we’ve rented a few!). The location is amazing, around the corner from a pond (the dog could swim) and the Lookout on the ocean (we could watch the container ships leaving Halifax Harbour or listen to crashing waves during stormy weather). There were tons of trails in the area and a lovely beach, Crystal Cresent Beach, within an easy drive. The city of Halifax was maybe 15 minutes away so extremely easy access for city adventures. This rental was a fantastic base to explore NS …we put on 3000km doing just that, including an overnight to the Cabot Trail. The yard was private, big enough to play ball with the dog and featured many visits by does with their fawns. The house itself was beyond charming, with lots of room and the best stocked rental I’ve ever been in! I still brought my Instant Pot, Air Fryer and Keurig but for a shorter stay I would have left them at home! Mary and Adrianne were extremely accommodating during our stay and made sure we were comfortable. So thank you for a wonderful month!

Fell in love with the place
We fell in love with the place from the start. It is beautiful and welcoming. We were very well received by Andrienne. The house has an exceptional vibe and is very well located, a few kilometers from the beautiful beach of Crystal Cresent. The place is quiet and perfect for a family vacation. We will definitely return! Thanks to Mary & Adrienne. Alex
