About Cheryl or Rex
We retired from Colorado and moved to Cuenca over 8 years ago with our two dogs, Mia (our standard poodle) and Bella (our yellow lab). Bella has left us but we have been joined by Pip, a border collie mix who adopted us in our local park. We are still working on our Ecuador bucket list, the Galapagos is the next big checkoff. We love walking along the Yanuncay river (one block away) with the dogs, gardening in our beautiful back yard (everything grows here), binge watching Masterpiece Theatre, Netflix originals and sharing dinners with good friends at the great restaurants here in Cuenca. We remodeled the ground level apartment in the duplex we rent for friends and family. We would very much like to include you in that group. We chose to live in our current location because it provides the proximity to the old town (El Centro, 10 minutes) with the quiet of a small Ecuadorian barrio (neighborhood), close to miles of parks. As VRBO/Homeaway guests, we like to leave our lodging immaculate, so like good guests, we are welcome back. As hosts, we provide comfort in a home environment, help when requested and privacy for our guests. My husband lived in South America growing up and speaks Spanish, so we are able to assist you during your visit with us.

Why Cheryl or Rex chose Cuenca
Our quiet neighborhood, a small Ciudadela, is almost exclusively Ecuadorian. It is off the beaten path, with very little traffic, but close to Avenida Las Americas and Primero de Mayo, major thoroughfares to get you around town. We are a 5 minute walk from Avenida Las Americas, which has buses and tranvia (streetcar) that take you around the city for $.30 ($.15 if you are over 65). A ride to the steps leading up to the Old Town (El Centro) takes about 15-20 minutes. A taxi (we can call for you or you can flag one down), will take you to old town in about 10-15 minutes for $3.00 or less, depending on your destination. As is true in most cities, times dramatically increase during rush hours. Getting a taxi during rush hours and when raining can be challenging. With the new taxi app, Azutaxi you can have a taxi at your front door in 5 minutes. let us show you how.
What makes this Apartment unique
We provide WIFI, a 42" Sony TV and Amazon 4K stick with VPN access for the greatest selection of Netflix and Amazon Prime movies and TV shows. You have unlimited access to a covered patio as well as a shared beautiful back yard for dogs and people, outdoor dining and a grill. In season, you are welcome to avocados from the tree out your back yard. You are one block from 7 kilometers of riverside walks. The apartment is located in a relatively quiet, almost exclusively Ecuadorian neighborhood. Be aware that Ecuador in general is MUCH noisier than your home environment even in a quiet neighborhood. Car and house alarms, roosters who crow in the middle of the night, a cacophony of dogs barking, fireworks going off for some unknown holiday and the occasional late night party are all part of the ambiance of Ecuador. We look forward to hosting you and sharing our love for our adopted city of Cuenca. Please come and join us in our adventure.
