About this property
Riverfront condo - Amazing views in Cuenca's Historic District
Brand new in 2016! This fully furnished 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath apartment in the heart of Cuenca's historic center, located conveniently on Calle Larga only 4 blocks from the Parque Calderon and both new and old cathedrals. We are only 100 feet from the Rio Tomebamba.
There are wide views of the National Park el Cajas, the mountains and we overlook the river. You can lie in your master bedroom in the evening, listen to the river, look out at the lights of Cuenca and church of Turi. Look up and watch the stars through the twin skylights.
The master bedroom has a walk in / walk through closet to the beautifully custom tiled shower. The master bedroom features a private balcony with a terrace garden, beautiful views of the city and el Cajas National Park.
The two guest bedrooms share a beautiful bathroom with shower. One bedroom doubles as an office with a comfy pull-down Murphy bed with a memory foam mattress. The apartment sleeps 6 - 2 queen-sized beds and one double bed.
The kitchen features full-sized fridge, heavy duty gas cooktop, gas oven, microwave and top-rated Cuisinart toaster over and Ninja blender. All dishes, silverware, knives, bowls, plates and everything you need to cook the fresh produce bought at the 10 de Agosto Market or Tia Market, just steps down the street.
Granite counter-tops, stainless steel sink and appliances. Radio to keep you entertained while washing the dishes with a window overlooking the orchid garden.
Dining area includes a table with places for 6 designed and built by Cuenca's top furniture maker, Luriq. Built-in banquette for potlucks and Nilson Rea designed wheeled, granite topped island for prep.
Saving the best for last: balconies overlooking the Rio Tomebamba are located on each floor. The bottom floor for when it's raining and the upper for private nighttime glass of Chilean wine and Ecuadorean chocolates. The washer dryer combo is located off the MBR balcony. Both balconies include lovely stainless steel, custom made planters. The bottom floor for herbs and the top floor with 3 small trees for screening the view from the adjacent penthouse.

Retired computer programmer and world travelers. Settled in Cuenca and spend the winter there. The rest of the time we live in another paradise, Ashland, OR. We also rent out rooms in this center of Shakespeare/Hiking/Good dining/and enjoyment.
Why they chose this property
We first came to Cuenca on a trip to Ecuador (Galapagos, Amazon Rainforest, Highlands and Cuenca) in 2007. We stayed with the developer's family in 2009 in their apartment building just down the street from where we are now. At the end of that time, we asked to be kept up to date on new developments, especially on the barranca or river valley of the Tomebamba.
In 2014 we got an email from the developer's wife, saying there was this place on Calle Larga and were we interested? Yes indeed! We expressed our interest with an offer on one of the few remaining apartment (the developer had been featured in the New York Times for the Juan Jaramillo apartment/remodel).
Offer accepted and we are here. It was more work finding furnishings and everything to live with in Cuenca, but I think, when you see our place, you'll say it was worth it.

What makes this property unique
Cuenca is unlike any other city and Ecuador, UNESCO World Heritage Site, is unlike any other country (in our experience of 50+ countries). Great climate, wonderful restaurants, beautiful walks along safe streets and the river just behind our apartment and nice Ecuadorean people. 'Nuf said.
