About this property

Luxury Stay: Acadia Views, direct access to trails, reserved Bar Harbor parking

Stay in the Heart of Acadia, safely tucked away on a ridge, with views of the mountains of Acadia National Park. Walk out the door in the morning to the quiet trails, while your friends and family sleep; set your mood; see the morning wildlife, feel the peacefulness of the park before others arrive.

Sleep well - we have all New luxury Aireloom mattresses in all main bedroom for 2024, while the office sofa bed has a new Plushbeds organic latex mattress and Meliusly support board.

Visit the town as the day unwinds, either taking a longer walk into town, or driving in to park at our own reserved parking space on Cottage Street. No circling the town looking for a place to park, we have one reserved for you!

Take a drive on the park loop road from the nearby entrance; or book some time on the Kebo Valley golf course, all easily accessed from this location. When night falls enjoy stargazing from the deck in the darkness of our night sky compliant neighborhood. Close to all the town has to offer, yet far enough away to have privacy and the peacefulness of Acadia.

The Perch is a modern, solar powered, open concept, custom designed house that was completed in the fall of 2020. It is tastefully decorated with local art and quality furnishings. Set on over an acre of land, it is a place to relax, reflect and get in touch with nature. There are unobstructed views of Cadillac, Dorr and Kebo Mountains from all living spaces and decks, with peaks of Champlain and Huguenot Head poking through the trees. The yard has been left natural and is visited daily by deer, turkey and other wildlife.

The Perch was built in one of the best locations on the island, with direct access to everything the island has to offer, yet quietly tucked away next to Acadia in a newly developed exclusive, secluded neighborhood on over an acre of land. Town Green is minutes away, the Great Meadow trailhead just steps away, the Park Loop Road just around the corner, while the ride to the Carriage Trails is easier than biking from town. The entrance to the Cadillac mountain road is also nearby if you have reservations to see the sunrise or sunset, or you can plan out a sunrise hike from the house or the also nearby North Ridge trailhead. Directly bordering Kebo Valley Golf Club, there is no other place on the island closer to the course. A peaceful retreat with none of the noise, traffic and congestion of downtown, you can plan your day with a hike or bike out the door, even before the rest of your group is awake.

Daily hikes from our house are on the Jesup Path, Stratheden, Gorge Path, Kebo Mountain, Homan’s, Emery, Kurt Diederich’s Climb, Ladder Trail and even longer trips to the Top of Cadillac or Champlain Mountains.

All bedrooms and the Great room have views of Cadillac and Dorr Mountains. With 3000 square feet of living space, and two different decks, you will have room to spread out. The primary bedroom is spacious with a private deck, a new (2024) King size Aireloom mattress, en-suite bathroom with large soaker tub and cavernous custom shower. The upstairs bedroom has a new Queen size Aireloom mattress an en-suite bathroom, while the lower guest bedroom has a new Aireloom mattress and office bedroom has a queen size pull out sofabed. The downstairs guest and office bedrooms share a bathroom.. In addition, there is a powder bathroom on the main floor.

Designer “cooks kitchen” has a fast cooking Induction stove and large island. The high ceilings on both floors and single depth of the house provide amazing light and views of the surroundings, while air conditioning and heating throughout guarantee your comfort on both cold and hot days.

While not ADA compliant, 2 story house has an elevator, wide doorways, a level bridge to enter the house and minimal thresholds. It is also a Smart Home that allows voice control of lights and the common area shades. If it is a rainy day or you just want to stay in, there is cable and streaming services on all TVs. There is also an outside infrared gas grill and a microwave tucked away in the island.

We also have worked hard to make sure you have extra towels, linens, soap, spices, condiments – all the things you would expect to have if you were home – including a few emergency items in case you forgot something or are arriving late. We want you to enjoy your time in our home on Mount Desert Island as much as we do.

Wedding
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this well appointed inviting home. The great room and other accommodations all have fantastic views of the mountains and golf course. The proximity to town and the Cottage street parking pass are added perks. The property manager “C” was very accommodating for suggestions and questions we had about the house and area restaurants. The warmth and comfort The Perch provided would invite us to book another visit to the Bar Harbor area. If hiking is not your thing there are books, games and artwork in the house that will entertain you if you like. Five Stars all around!!

Incredible home, fabulous location!
The Perch exceeded our expectations in every way! We traveled up to Bar Harbor with my in-laws for a 4-day stay, and I can hands-down say the trip wouldn’t have been nearly as enjoyable, peaceful, or fulfilling if we had stayed anywhere else. The house is somehow even better than the pictures. Every detail is thoughtfully curated and of great quality. The art, the furniture, even the books on the shelves (!) make the place feel like a small Bar Harbor resort. C, the property manager, had great communication and gave excellent recommendations. After reading through several cookbooks available in the kitchen, we felt inspired to cook a New England meal using the fully-stocked kitchen (seriously, the best stocked kitchen I’ve ever seen in a rental house). I texted C to get recommendations for buying fresh, local seafood, and he responded near instantly with some fabulous markets just around the corner from the house. Other pros: 1) the parking pass for downtown bar harbor is a LIFE-SAVER. Seriously, this is an INCREDIBLE perk, as finding parking downtown is really difficult when it’s busy. The designated parking spot is really close to the main strip and easy to find. Made going into town much, much more accessible 2) wild blueberry picking available and encouraged right on the property 3) night-sky community allowed us to get a spectacular view of the Perseid meteor shower right on the back deck of the house 4) access to Acadia trails right from the property

The perfect vacation house
Having had bad experiences with house rentals in the past, in particular one that we were supposed to stay in through Vacasa but fell through due to its dilapidated and filthy condition, this house almost made up for all of it (except for the lost time). It was immaculately clean, stunning in its decor and furnishings, and every detail was thought of, including all the cleaning and cooking supplies that one might need. In addition, the house manager was amazing - after he found out about the awful start to our vacation, he left us goodies (a bottle of wine and a bottle of fancy maple syrup) on the kitchen island to welcome us. We were lucky to find this house after moving from one hotel room to another for the first three days of our trip. It was a lot more than we planned to spend for a rental but it was worth every penny.

Family making memories
This trip had three generations of family members exploring Acadia from hiking, whale watching, to a plane ride seeing all the islands and lighthouses. We enjoyed the home sitting on the deck in the morning to playing board games in the evening. We were so busy we never turned on the televisions! A special time to make lasting memories.

Amazing!
We had an absolute amazing time in Acadia, whale watching, sailing, and exploring Bar Harbor. The house was beautiful and even more than what the pictures portrayed. It provided an excellent. view of wildlife (deer & turkeys) and the stars above while enjoying a glass of wine. I cannot wait to come back to Bar Harbor and The Perch!

We (Kathy and Al) are avid hikers and lovers of the outdoors. While the house does not allow pets, two Border Collies are often in resident and enjoy hikes around Acadia as well as swims at Little Long Pond and in the ocean. Cooking is a passion of Kathy's, as can be seen by the large Cook's kitchen.

We designed and decorated this new modern house in Bar Harbor after vacationing here for many years. Access to hiking trails and Bar Harbor were key consideration in the house location, with the connecting trail in the yard being one of the first things Al built upon occupation. We have daily walks from the yard every morning to start the day.

We are "house people" that owned and restored an old 1686 colonial house in Ipswich, Massachusetts and now live between Bar Harbor and our House in Carrabassett Valley

Why they chose this property

Modern, Spacious house with cook's kitchen, local art throughout, and dramatic views of Cadillac Mountain. One of the best locations on the island, with easy access to everything from the Cadillac Mountain Road to the Carriage trails, hiking, Town and more. Even if you don't want to go anywhere, you can just sit outside on the deck and look at the view! The house has amazing light and views from every room.

Environmentally conscious house has a 19.2 KW Solar system to offset the power usage of all appliances and the heating/cooling of the house and the Chargepoint Level 2 charger (Tesla will need an adapter) if you visit with an electric car.

We want you to enjoy your stay, so we have plenty of extra towels, bed linen, pillows, spices, condiments, quality cookware, soap, shampoo and other amenities you would expect in a luxury rental. Much of the house is decorated with local art, we have many books by local writers, and quality furnishings. We pay attention to the details and are not a house with mismatched plates, cheap beat-up cookware or bad maintenance. This really is our house much of the year - and we believe we have high standards. If there are any issues or additional needs, our property manager will work to resolve them quickly.

What makes this property unique

In-Town pass for our reserved parking spot the GBD lot at 43 Cottage Street between 6AM to 8PM. Elevator. Chargepoint Level 2 EV charger. Large tub in Primary bathroom. Easy access to all parts of island without having to drive through downtown. Acadia Park Loop road is 1/2 mile away. Cadillac mountain summit entrance is one mile away. The town green is 1.5 miles from the house, while the ride to the carriage trails is 2 miles.
