We truly enjoyed our stay! The house was well furnished for our family of five and included a separate family room area upstairs. The kitchen was well appointed with quality cookware, dishes and appliances. All beds were comfortable and three full baths were superb! The owners are fantastic and provided us with great tips for local activities and dining. We can’t wait to visit again!
The home is Cozy & comfortable! A very well stocked kitchen with plenty of nice pots & pans with every utensil a cook would need…one of the best kitchens! The beds are comfortable with plenty of blankets and good pillows. The furniture is better than most rentals..comfy. Do be aware that there are several stairs to the entrance of the home. Wes and Holly are very attentive and are fantastic hosts!
We highly recommend their “home away from home”!
First, let me apologize for the delay in submitting this review. My family and I stayed in this cabin last December (2020) for approximately one week. Since then, we’ve made multiple attempts at contacting the owner to address multiple issues we encountered during our stay; however, he went AWOL. He ignored our phone calls, did not return our messages on either of the two numbers provided, and did not follow through on several promises. My family and I have rented many cabins throughout the years and this is by far the worst cabin we have stayed in. To begin with, the house was filthy. The bathroom floors were dirty and there was hair left in one of the showers. The closets stored broken objects, including shattered glass lamps, and dusty linens. Half of the windows and drawers in the house had “Broken” signs taped to them and could not be used. The worst part of the trip was on New Year’s Eve. My daughter was taking a shower when suddenly the poorly installed shower glass door fell and glass shattered all over the bathroom. Thankfully my daughter walked away with only minor cuts, but needless to say she was terrified. I wish I could load pictures of all of the above on this post. I have never left a negative review before, but given the awful experience, poor conditions of the cabin, and lack of response from the owners, I feel obligated to inform others of our experience. I hope this review helps families avoid this rental.

Thank you for your feedback, Meriam. We apologize that our home did not meet your expectations. We set a high standard for ourselves and are truly sorry to hear that standard was not met during your stay which took place one year ago. Your happiness is our priority. 99% of our reviews are Five Star. This is the first negative review we have ever received. Nevertheless, we do take your comments seriously. There seems to be a misunderstanding about the bathroom issue so I'll try to set the facts straight. The most accurate account of this event is that the fault did not lie with the owners, according to the insurance company representative, several contractors and the cleaning staff. The consensus was that the damage was caused by the traveler. We always try to ensure that each traveler enjoys their experiences at our home and appreciate each visit.
We went for a family Christmas/New Years and it was truly a wonderful experience. It was in the mountains but close enough to fun and essential spots. The owners are so great to be with too. They are truly nice and made the experience even better. Thanks for all!
My family and I felt like we had come home the moment we stepped in the cabin during a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend at Three Bears Cottage. It is clean, comfortable and well appointed. The owners are excellent communicators and thankfully nothing went wrong during our stay but I feel that if anything did happen; Lester and Holly would make it right immediately. They communicated with us prior to our arrival to make sure that we had everything we needed, knowing we were cooking our big Thanksgiving meal there. The kitchen was VERY well stocked with just about every kitchen tool and implement you can think of as well as plenty of bathroom towels and toilet paper, 8 people had plenty during our 4 days there. Lots of nice wool blankets and comforters to snuggle up on the couch with. It is in a golf course community but not right on the golf course so it feels remote and private but not isolated. The house has this large beautiful deck with no cover so it is the perfect place to sit or lay on your back for hours and see the stars which are incredible. There is a deer trail right behind the house, if you sit quietly just after dawn, you will see 4 or 5 of them walking right along a row of cedar trees. The house is larger than it looks and everyone was comfortable. It provided many hours of TV movie watching and game playing. The table has leaves (inserts) to make it bigger and we were able to seat 8 or 9 easily. It was so quiet and peaceful at night and during the day and what few neighbors we saw were friendly. We would not hesitate to stay here again.
We were looking for a place to enjoy fall colors. Between the location (10 min to a Blue Ridge Parkway access), the house, and Lester, was just what we needed. The house was set up with everything we needed and the deck was a fabulous place to set a spell after a day of hiking various places. Lester provided great info to help us make our daily plans. The weather was delightful. Do highly recommend. Thank you Lester!
A group of six adults were here for a wedding. We were actually tentative about booking as the house looks kind of old and dated in the pictures, but thankfully we were very pleasantly surprised. The carpet is in good shape and the bedding has been replaced along with some furniture. The house is large with windows all around and is very comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked with spices etc. and plenty of items to cook with. So many hikes you can do in the area and we really enjoyed strolling the golf course and surrounding as well. Don't be afraid to book and Lester says new pics are coming soon!
We had a great time staying at the house. House was clean and well taken care of, and we really liked the location. The kids loved walking to the river and feeding the fish. The restaurant at the golf club was great too.
Our first impression was WOW! We had reviewed the photos of the house in VRBO prior to going with this listing and we were impressed by them - i.e. we selected it. But when we walked in we were floored by how much bigger the inside felt and how the pictures just didn't do the place justice (and they are good pictures...). We wanted to spend some time together relaxing with the family and this place provided the perfect space to do it. Again, plenty of room for our 4 adults and 2 teenagers that traveled with us and our 2 additional adult children that joined us for a couple nights. The beds were super comfortable as well.
We frequent this area of North Carolina a lot and the location of this property is perfect for what we like to do. Little Switzerland is close by and a nice, short drive. Mount Mitchell is also an easy stroll down the Parkway. We did Father's Day lunch in Boone before heading back home and that drive was also a pleasant one.
I highly recommend this property if you are considering it. You won't regret it!

Dear Cory,
We appreciate your kind words. We have tried to upgrade every year and still haven't replaced our old photos. Since you left, we upgraded all three bathrooms with new lighting and paint. We have implemented a significant landscape plan with more trees, a rock pathway in the back and many new plantings. New window treatments are ordered and will be installed soon.
We are thrilled that our home was a respite for your family!

The Three Bears Cottage is an ideal cabin atmosphere for a family/holiday gathering. The large great room/kitchen area offered plenty of space for our family of 7 to cook, read, play games and watch movies in front of a warm fire. The home was well-equipped for our visit. We cooked every meal and enjoyed our beautiful White Christmas view through the large picture frame windows and sliding doors that went onto our deck. We brought our own lights for the outdoor railings to add to our holiday spirit.
The only time we left the home during our 4-night stay was to visit the nearby country store for firewood and to hike to a local waterfall.
The owners of this home are very accommodating and quick to respond to questions. They leave you with easy instructions and contact information, along with a notebook full of nearby events.
Thank You for our Happy Holiday in the beautiful NC mountains!
My husband, kids (11&13) and I had a fantastic week at this mountain house over the Thanksgiving holiday week. The location is *extremely* convenient to a number of trailheads near Blackwoods Campground, and easy and beautiful short drives to other trailheads in the area - we hiked every day. I would recommend grabbing the ‘All Trails’ app to plan your hikes in this area.
The house itself is in a ‘golf course’ neighborhood but felt very private. We happened to stay there just off season and found it extremely quiet. As we sat on the deck, we enjoyed hearing the river that runs nearby.
The house had plenty of nice quality towels and bedding, and the foosball and ping pong tables were both in great shape. We had plenty of space for the 4 of us, with some to spare, and enjoyed spending time at the house. Beautiful fireplace!
There are a couple small convenience /camping stores nearby, and it’s about half hour to full supermarkets (Ingles) in either Burnsville (north) or Marion (south). There is a Food Lion in Marion that offers online ordering for curbside pickup.
Lester & Holly were fantastic hosts- they contacted us prior to our stay to ensure we had all the details we needed, and were very quick to respond to questions. All in all a wonderful week!
Property was perfect for our family with room to spare. House was very well supplied and stocked with everything we needed. Great location in a family-friendly area with many hiking, sightseeing, and other activities easily accessible and nearby.
Clean and comfortable home. Lovely neighborhood and soooo close to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Mt Mitchell, Little Switzerland etc.

We just upgraded our beds by replacing all frames and adding new memory foam mattresses. In addition, we have upgraded and added new bedding, pillows and coverlets. Even before we did all this, we had 5 star reviews. Of all the travelers who have stayed at our home, no one has had this perspective. We feel that perhaps, this was an individual preference and is not representative of our travelers. We are very very appreciative of all the folks who have stayed at our home. Les & Holly
My family enjoyed this mountain home for two weeks in August. The climate and location to great hiking, waterfalls, rivers, Blue Ridge Parkway were outstanding. We had a fantastic stay!
We were fortunate enough to stay in this wonderful property for about 9 days. It is tucked-away in the mountains and in July was always cool and comfortable. It is well-situated being only 3 minutes from Roaring Fork falls and about 20 to Crabtree falls. The house is also minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway and Mt. Mitchell and about an hour to Asheville. While the hills were challenging for runners, walking is an alternative, with much to see in the neighborhood including a river and frequent deer.
The house itself has all the vital amenities though it is not sterile, so city dwellers should brace themselves for the setting (for example, mosquitos). It was silent at night and we slept better than we had for a long time. Multiple televisions and internet access is good. Ping pong in the basement. The owners are extremely responsive.

Thank you for your kind review. We would be thrilled if you would stay with us again and we certainly will offer a substantial discount. Hope you enjoyed a safe trip back home. Again, our sincere thanks for your lovely comments! Les and Holly
The property is located in the Mt. Mitchel Golf Resort development. The house is older, but mostly nicely updated. Tasteful furnishings, not jarringly modern, and not too faux rustic. Very nice art on the walls. Well equipped kitchen. Plenty of space for small groups to get away from each other.
We had some trouble getting the air conditioner to blow enough cold air to cool the upstairs during the day. Outside temperature was cool at night, so we just opened the windows. We followed instructions about lowering the thermostat in small increments, but that didn't work. There is a note in the house binder that the upstairs thermostat won't work with dead batteries, but that didn't seem to be the problem.
Minor annoyances included that two of the three showerheads and the shower doors had not been updated and we couldn't find any balls for the foosball table.
Access to stores and restaurants requires some driving. We were there when most tourist sites were closed, but there are lots of great walking and hiking options, including wonderful waterfalls. And the house and deck were very comfortable for just hanging out.
We thought we might get a break on price because of the pandemic, but the price was more or less what you normally would expect to pay for a nice rental in a beautiful location.
My wife and I had a wonderful time at the 3 Bears Cottage in Burnsville, NC. The owners were very helpful and prompt in answering questions and concerns once we were on the property. Would highly recommend!!
