Great location for pier fishing and enjoying beach and bike rides. Exactly as advertised! Three toilets was a bonus, with two showers and washing machine. Well stocked throughout.
We had a great time here doing fishing, crabbing, or going to beach since this place is very close to Kiptopeke park and the Cape Charles. The house has everything we need and it also has a nice backyard with grill, shower, fireplace, and a nice sink to clean your catch!
This property, despite being located right off a highway, offered a unique and quaint experience.

Liked: Cleanliness, amenities, property conditions & facilities, communication
The historic building converted to a house is gorgeous inside with a creative use of space. It has everything needed for a vacation house and is within driving distance of Kiptopeke State Park, Cape Charles, and other southern Eastern Shore attractions. Owners are quickly responsive and very helpful.
The appeal of staying in a former bank was irresistible, plus it was available last minute when we needed it. Very clean and comfortable and well-equipped. The bed was also very comfortable. We would’ve loved to have had more time to use the fire pit and fish-cleaning and grilling area, but we did use the bicycles to bike the trail, immediately adjacent to the bank, to the nature center. It was a nice, easy almost 10 mile round trip. The location was perfect for exploring the eastern shore. Read the available brochures which highlight some of the best activities before choosing your adventures. We went to Onancock to catch the ferry to Tangiers one day, and the next day we just explored Cape Charles. So much good food nearby, or cook your own in the kitchen or out on the grill. It’s a very fun place to stay. Hands Down.

Comfortable and Historical, Nicely Renovated
We enjoyed our stay at the Vault. It was a treat to be able to stay in the historical building, and the renovations done to transform the bank into a house were tastefully and well-done. The beds and furniture were comfortable, and the baths and kitchen were well furnished.
The location of the Vault is centrally located for exploring the area. We visited or toured many points of interest from our home-base here -- Cape Charles, Kiptopeke National Park, Cheriton, Eastville, Onancock, Ocean City, MD, Chincoteague and Assateage Islands -- just to name a few. The owners were helpful to suggest charter fishing boats, and we arranged a fishing trip with one that took us out in the Chesapeake Bay. We would have enjoyed the fishing more if we would have caught more than a few small sharks and two stingrays, but fishing is unpredictable and that was just bad luck.
I was surprised and very much appreciated that our damage deposit was refunded before we even got home.
I would recommend staying at the Vault to anyone who would be visiting the area. If more people are traveling together that would require more than 1 hotel room, the price is economical too.

The Vault was a treasure!
We like finding unique places to stay and this home filled the bill. Plenty of space to sleep, eat and relax. Loved the history of the building and the kids enjoyed exploring to figure out where the vault once was. The owners were in contact with us to make sure everything was okay. They were available when we called and very helpful. Highly recommend this home if staying in the area.

So much character
We had a wonder stay at "The Vault." The house was clean and comfortable with plenty of room. The only suggestion I would make would be to upgrade to a better dvd player and add cable TV. When the weather is bad there area does not offer much to do other than having a movie day.
Thanks Mark and Chris for sharing your unique property.

Pictures don't do this amazing home justice
We were blown away by the beauty of the home as soon as we walked in the door. The high tin ceilings were beautiful and added great ambiance. The kitchen was well stocked, with dishes, utensils, pots and pans. Plenty of towels in the bathrooms. Chris and Mark were friendly at check in and check out. We would definitely rent this home again if we come back to Cape Charles.
Some things to be aware of. The home was a bit dusty, but not so much that it bothered us. I can't imagine cleaning those high ceilings! The entire area has very hard water, which was evident from looking at the cooking utensils. Again, not a big deal, but could be a turn off to some.
When we stayed there was also a second single bed on the 2nd floor. (So a double and 2 singles on each floor). 1 single on each floor was in a curtained alcove that is accessed through the bedrooms with the other beds in them. The upstairs is a loft - so no doors. There are also no doors on the downstairs bedroom. Not a problem for our family of 5, but something to be aware of if you are looking for privacy.
Overall this was a great home that fit our needs perfectly! Thanks for sharing it with us.

Unique place to stay
This was a very unique place to stay. We loved the old tin ceilings and other architectural features of this home. The booking went very smoothly. The owners were friendly. They took the time to add a notebook for visitors listing various activities, restaurants, and other information. They also had a journal that visitors could write down something about their stay and a basket with games and coloring items for the children. The bathrooms had more than enough towels and were neat and clean.

Beautiful experience through and through
Everything about our reservation went beautifully! From the polite reception of the owners during the initial contact all the way through our stay, this place went above and beyond our expectations. The pictures really don't do this place justice. Immaculately well taken care of home with an antique feel that is really remarkable. All modern amenities and a fantastic kitchen and outside patio where we spent a LOT of time and shared great stories. We are already talking of a repeat for next year and there is no guessing where we will be staying thank you so much for the great place and awesome service!!! Chris, Boston.
