Windes' East Fork Retreat: Private, By the river, Bird Watching, Weekly Rate
This creek-side manufactured cabin with site-built addition has a large covered deck overlooking the Greer Valley a stone's throw from the East Fork of the Little Colorado. The cabin is snuggled in the woods under large old-growth ponderosa pines near the Wallow Burn which has regrown with abundant new vegetation and wildflowers that attracts elk, deer, and other wildlife right up to the deck. Enjoy our new Weber grill, put out some seed, watch the birds and friendly squirrels just a few feet away. The trail up the East Fork of the Little Colorado River is right there, with good trout fishing upstream and down and few other anglers. The East Fork is the least visited part of Greer, so if you are looking for quiet communing with nature in the cool pines and firs, this is the place to be. This no-hassle cabin is the owner's own weekend getaway and amply outfitted with all the comforts of home including WIfi and satellite TV, washer/dryer, microwave, stove, fridge with water and ice, gas grill, central heat, and all the dishes, utensils, and small appliances you need for an easy vacation in the mountains. It's everything you need and nothing you don't, so it's affordable too. If you like it simple, you won't find a better deal in a setting this perfect anywhere in Greer. google-site-verification: google264a32e490c1f789.html

We love this location! It’s private, comfortable, and clean. Not fancy, but all the essentials are there for a perfect, relaxing time in the mountains. Just close enough to downtown. It’s our favorite spot to stay in Greer so far.
We loved every moment of our time in Greer at the Windes’ East Fork Retreat. The setting was beautiful, the accommodations were rustic yet clean, the wifi was fantastic (no issues even when the satellite lost signal for a little while), and everything was comfortable and well-appointed. We are already planning our next trip to this same spot!
The cabin was very nice and clean and in a great location for seeing wildlife. Elk and deer came close to the cabin. Could hear elk bugling at night and in the early morning. We drove around the area and saw more elk, deer, antelope and turkeys. We had a wonderful time. We met Harriet and she was so nice and helpful.
Cabin was very clean and had everything needed for a pleasant stay. Greer is a good area to get out of the heat. Ample opportunity for hiking and fishing near by.
Beautiful quiet property. Had elk and deer visit us right in the yard. Great patio with lots of birds squirrels and chipmunks. Will definately stay here again.
This is our third annual mom daughter vacation staying at this property. I literally could not ask for a better experience. From host communication, cleanliness of the property and comfort of the cabin I would never go anywhere else. The many, many hummingbirds on the property have completely stolen our hearts. Until next time, we cannot wait to stay with you again!!! Sandra and Kennedy
We stayed here last year and booked again this year. Love the location. Set up is perfect for us. Everything we needed was provided. Enjoyed the covered deck when the rain came. Nice walking options right from the property. Quiet and clean!

The only suggestion we would make is that the carpet be cleaned.
The manager is exceptional!

We got it cleaned! Was kind of a weird year with covid. We'll have it cleaned again in the Spring. We were hoping to get all new flooring last year but couldn't get it done.
Just finished our second stay in this cabin. We absolutely love it here. Very close to the reservoirs which we fished at daily and the river runs right through the property. The cabin is very comfortable and extremely clean. Harriet and John are both absolutely wonderful people, fast communication and great resources for the area. We will continue to come back here!!
The Phoenix area has had a record breaking Summer, I am so glad I booked this cabin last May. Me and an Army buddy came to fish the area lakes and rivers. We caught trout and saw lots of Arizona's White Mountains. So nice to have a place to stay that had all the comforts of home. I really recommend that you take some time off here!

Thankful.
Our week in Greer was all we hoped for... we had perfect weather, saw many of the area’s wildlife just steps from our “home”, and journeyed on day trips to places we had heard of, such as “Coronado Trail and Sipe’s AZ Refuge”.
Thank you, Harriet, for having all we needed, clean and welcoming. Another spot in God’s Creation for which to be thankful!!
We had an absolutely amazing stay at this property. The house is immaculate and well appointed with everything you could possibly need. The beds are extremely comfortable and we slept better here than at home. The river runs right along the property we saw tons of wildlife. We will be back we absolutely loved it. Harriet the property manager is there for anything you need or to answer questions. We will be back!
East Fork Retreat is the best VRBO place in Greer. The host Harriet is ALWAYS responsive and helpful with any questions.
This home is ALWAYS clean and provides all of the items you need to cook, eat, and enjoy the many comforts.
The location is perfect with a large covered porch for just sitting and listening to all the nature sounds and sights.
It is close to hiking paths, the eateries of Greer, the lakes and fishing or kayaking
I highly recommend staying at this location. You will NOT be disappointed.

Thank you so much for your kind review. I'm glad you had such a great time!
The property was extremely clean, felt very private and was set up perfectly to put some bird seed in the provided feeders to then sit back and watch the amazing birds show up!
If you are someone wanting to enjoy the birds, make sure you bring wild bird seeds, suet and make some hummingbird food beforehand! The rufous will thank you as he defends the food all day long.
My wife and I stayed in the cabin for four nights and loved it. My wife was taken by the beautiful appointments and decor both inside and out. It was very comfortable and accommodating. Rather than going out to eat, we were able to prepare our own meals in the well equipped kitchen. It was so relaxing to sit on the porch in the morning and take in the views and fresh air. We are looking forward to returning in the future. PK
It was lovely, well equipped and perfect for a quiet, cool weekend in the woods. Be sure and pack sugar for the hummingbirds, as this was our favorite part. We counted 13, all eating at the same time. Also, there was not a hair dryer, but no complaints otherwise. We will be back!!!

Sorry about the hair dryer! We normally have one in the upstairs bathroom.
We needed a respite from Scottsdale's high summer temperatures and chose Greer for the 8400 foot elevation and the driveable distance. The cabin was as listed...clean and well stocked, washer/dryer, and dishwasher. Communication with Harriet was good.
We really enjoyed relaxing on the deck with coffee or a glass of wine. The hummingbirds were pretty entertaining. We were able to open doors and windows for fresh air and nice views. We would stay here again.
fir the convenience.
This is an excellent place to get away from the hussle and bustle of every day life. It is well equipped to cook your own food (which you will probably need to do as in town options are limited). The area is teaming with wildlife as well. A group of deer came through near the property every evening and the chipmunks were hilarious to watch. This place is clean and easy to get to (in the summer). Only downside for my 4 year old were the spider webs in various corners of the property and house. Hard to convince the city girl it was just a part of life out there.
My husband & I have been meeting our adult son in Greer for 30 years to fish. Harriet the property manager for Windes East Fork Retreat has helped us book a cabin for many of these years. This property is superior to all that we have rented. Harriet is a wonderful person & she always ensures that we have everything we need.
The cabin and patio are very clean and the owner
maintains it in "like new" condition. The many windows in the living area allow us to enjoy the outdoors even on rainy days. We love the quiet location and spacious grounds where we play Bocce ball and Corn hole that we bring from home.
Windes' East Fork Retreat won't disappoint!
Quiet, comfortable and relaxing surrounded by nature
We thoroughly enjoyed staying at this property. Kitchen was fully equipped with any tools and dishes needed for preparing and serving food. The King bed was super comfortable and there was more than sufficient bedding and towels. The heater worked great and the shower was nice and warm/hot. We loved watching the birds and squirrels nibbling on the seed provided. The host was very nice, friendly, and always quickly available for any questions or needs. The only suggestion might be to add some sort of fireplace as we missed sitting next to a fire.

About the host
Hosted by Harriet Barker
This property has been in the Windes family for three generations. in 1959 William Harvey Windes and his son, Jim Windes, purchased the property. When Jim's parents died the property was split with Jim retaining the parcel this cabin is on. Jim died in 2019 and passed the cabin down to his son, John. John spent his summers here as a kid with his grandparents and cousins. He spent every day wandering the creek and fishing every hole and run until he knew it like the back of his hand. As he got older he brought his sons up and continues to enjoy hunting and fishing the Greer area with his family. The best part about the Greer cabin though, is just sitting on the covered deck, listening to the creek burble, or the rain patter, while sipping on a hot cup of something. More often than not you'll be wrapped in a blanket, even in summer. This is high country.
Why they chose this property
Because it's the best place to be in Arizona in the summer. It's that simple. This cabin is one of the last cabins on the East Fork Road. It is very quiet and private. The property borders Forest Service land and the creek is a stone's throw away. This is THE place to get away from it all and renew your soul. It's also easy. It has all the comforts of home from satellite TV to a crock pot. Bring your groceries and stay for a week without ever starting up the car while you are here. Unwind. Walk up or downstream to fish. Hiking or biking are right out the door. Let the kids go play in the meadow while you sip a cup on the deck and take in the cool air. Abundant wildlife is visible from the cabin. Deer, elk, squirrels, birds, elk, and sometimes more exciting critters are all common sights. Summer monsoons bring pleasant rain and thrilling lightning and thunder. Or . . . take a 5 minute drive to town for dining, drinks, and basic supplies. Five minutes to the Greer lakes, 45 minutes to Big Lake, 35 minutes to Sunrise ski resort. Some people come for the quiet. Some for the wildlife. Others come to fish, hunt, or even to hunt mushrooms! In the spring it's the world coming to life - wild daffodils and pussy willows on the creek. In the summer it is a respite from the heat -green grass and wildflowers. In the fall it is crisp air and changing leaves of the aspens. In all seasons it is bright stars at night and quiet days that go by slowly but end too quickly. Most visitors come back. Because once it gets into your soul you'll hunger for it when away and think about it often.
What makes this property unique
-Very well stocked with all the comforts of home -Very private, quiet, peaceful -Excellent spot for wildlife, birds, squirrels, elk and deer -Harriet, your host, lives next door year round and can help when needed -Extremely kid friendly -the nature they need -A great value!
