In the Heart of Apalachicola~Walk Everywhere~Ebony Rouge Suite~Majestic Jewel
Enjoy Southern Grandeur and Comfort in one of the most majestic homes in Apalachicola! Located in the center of the Historic District and less than two blocks from the restaurants, shops, galleries and pubs! Six Suites and one Studio available.
Treat yourself to our largest & most luxurious suite on the 1st floor! The EBONY ROUGE SUITE is beautifully furnished with a super comfortable KING SIZE bed & the finest linens! (This bed sits higher than an average bed.) Plush rugs adorn the original hardwood floors & art decorates the shiplap wood walls. The bay window has a nice sitting area with a great view & custom made black out drapes! This suite includes a full bath with soaking tub & spray nozzle for old fashioned "sit down" shower. A separate quirky "shower closet" opens up into the bedroom. Although it is unconventional, many guests prefer a stand up shower so we were creative & added one.
Guests are encouraged to use all of the common areas which include the Grand Salon, Formal Dining Room, Hospitality Lobby, Kitchenette & the many sitting areas on the veranda. Mix and mingle or simply relax! There is plenty of space to enjoy at the Majestic Jewel!
Although we are not a B & B, we do offer guests self-serve coffee, tea, cold drinks, bottle water, oatmeal, milk & cereal PLUS an excellent environment to mix & mingle or simply relax!
Ebony Rouge in the Majestic Jewel Inn is an amazing place to stay for a memorable get away! Please view our photos & captions for more info. Check out our other suites, Ivory Pearl, Vintage Rose, Green With Envy & Autumn Moon!

Everything about this rental for 3 nights was fantastic. June and Greg were gracious and accommodating if we needed anything. They treat you like family from the time you meet them for your stay. It was such a pleasure meeting you both! Greg and I love when our guests enjoy their experience and say "we will be back"! Hopefully we will see you in the near future! Try Autumn Moon Suite next time! Spacious suite with king size bed on the 2nd floor!
We loved staying at this historic house. It is beautifully restored to its full glory. Easy to find, it is handy to walk into this lovely town.
Our room was elegant with a very comfortable bed.
We were warmly greeted on arrival. Definitely recommend this place to stay.

We love hearing about the comfort of our beds! Guests say that they get better sleep here than they have had in years! That is our goal! Home away from home! Thank you Pamela! Hopefully you take the path back to us one day!
We stayed here for our second year in a row for our annual river trip and it was the perfect place! It’s very convenient to walk to the shops, restaurants, and bars and we had plenty of space to park the boat. The kitchen area has perfect grab and go breakfast/snacks and the porches were a great spot to sit and hang with our friends. The rooms are absolutely beautiful and Greg was a wonderful, helpful host!
My boyfriend and I stayed in the Ebony Rouge suite over 4th of July weekend. The building is located right next to the heart of downtown, but the space is incredibly calming. We really appreciated the excellent black out curtains, massive bathtub, and comfortable king size bed. We hope to stay here on our visits to Apalachicola in the future.

Hi Veronica,
We are so happy that you enjoyed your experience! Next time you should stay in the Autumn Moon Suite on the 2nd floor. It is a guest favorite as well!
Funny you should mention the black out drapes! I literally just hung them before your visit!
Thanks for being a part of our home's story!

House is beautiful. Our room , the Ebony Rouge Suite was very spacious. It was great to have the kitchen available to make morning coffee and evening tea. Also the fridge was handy to keep items from our cooler , including medication, cold. The only problem I had was in the evening and overnight it was so cold in the room. I was not able to change the room tempThe location is great. We were able to walk everywhere. Not a lot of places to eat but we enjoyed trying the oysters in a few different places and in a few different cooking methods. All in all we enjoyed our stay.

We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay but upset to hear that you were cold in July! There aren't controls in the suite because we don't want another guest to freeze out their neighbor suite and we try to balance it ourselves. We would have happily adjusted the temperature to make you more comfortable! In the manual in your suite as well as posted in several places we request that we are contacted if a guest needs anything to make them more comfortable. We strive to make sure our guests are comfortable and happy! We wish you had let us know! Next time don't hesitate! Thanks, June
All I can say is “WOW”! I couldn’t have found a more beautiful unique place to stay. I’m so happy I chose Majestic Jewel! I most definitely will return, hopefully soon!

The room was beautiful and spacious. The location was perfect allowing for walks to the different squares and two blocks from downtown and restaurants. The only minus was the lack of a standard walk-in shower. It made showering after the beach very awkward being you had to kneel or sit and worry about spraying water everywhere. Otherwise, our stay was perfect!

We love input from our guests! In our photos and description we try very hard to show that the bath has a huge soaking tub with sit down shower utilizing a hand-held shower sprayer. I can see why some guests might find this difficult. Our desire is to insure comfort for all who visit! How can we make the details more clear so that guests can choose the suite that best suits their needs?

Good Intentions
It was a long, cold, and miserable drive to Apalachacola. We were relieved to get there. Unfortunately when we got to the Majestic Jewel and arrived at our room, it was very cold. To their credit, they responded quickly to the issue and by the time we got back from dinner the room was a bit warmer. The room and accessories were beautiful and the linens were plush. We unpacked and settled down. We turned on the TV and what a mess.
Most Cable or Satellite companies have guides that make it easy to find a program and channel. Not this one. The instructions in room guide are out dated. We could never figure out how to navigate the channels. They need to update this and make it easier to use.
I was feeling dirty so I wanted to take a shower. The bathroom is beautiful and wonderfully appointed but the shower is not there. It is in the living area. Something that I could not get used to. I could not get the water hot. We asked them about it and they again responded quickly. It still took about 5 minutes to get warm water each day we were there. In both instances when we called, they responded quickly although we don't think that those issues should be issues.
We thought when booking this property that it was a Bed and Breakfast. It's not. It is a beautiful room in a wonderful house. No breakfast in the traditional sense. They do leave cereal, milk etc.
They could do some work to make the kitchen area feel less sterile and the outside side of the house more appealing.
Lastly, this is the only 'B&B' that we did not meet the hosts. One of the charming aspects of a 'B&B' is meeting them. It creates the right kind of atmosphere.

Our first 3 star review! I knew it was possible that one day we would get less than a 5 star but I wish it was justified so that we would know how we could make improvements.
This guest clearly walked into the Majestic Jewel unsettled due to the bad weather. A few of his issues could have been cleared up before making the reservation. Nowhere on our VRBO listing does it say anything about being a Bed & Breakfast! We like to show southern hospitality by offering guests a little lagniappe; coffee, tea, bottle water, cold drinks, oatmeal, milk & cereal. My husband & I are in residence about 70% of the month & really enjoy meeting the guests and I regret that he was disappointed that we were out of town.
When restoring the Majestic Jewel, we added many modern amenities including 6 bathrooms. In a 10,000 square foot, 110 year old home, one might expect that it may take a couple of minutes for hot water to reach the front of the house. After reading his review, we actually timed it. In the evenings when few people are showering, it took 3 minutes to reach the Ebony Rouge, mornings were quicker.
As for the shower, when he reserved this suite our listing stated that the bathroom had a huge soaking tub with a European sit-down shower (with spray nozzle). If he read our listing he should have been surprised to find a shower in the suite because we did not have one! We recently added the "shower closet" to please the guests who wanted a stand-up shower. It is a bit quirky because it opens up into the bedroom but it does enable guests to have a choice. We do not expect anyone to use it if they are uncomfortable with it.
Smart TV's can be difficult to maneuver if one is not accustom to them. In each suite we have the instructions & channel line up in the guest manual located in the suite. We are also available to help as needed.
As for our kitchenette being too sterile, we aren't sure what he meant so I will move on.
We are the most baffled by the comment that we could make the outside of the house more appealing! The Majestic Jewel is one of the most beautiful homes in Apalachicola! Not only is the exterior immaculate but the grounds are well maintained.
Our desire is that we meet and exceed the expectations of our guests! In our listings, I try to be clear & thorough so that guests know what to expect. In reality, I realize that we cannot please everyone, but we can sure try!
Wonderful, historical. We enjoyed our week. Relaxed, rejuvenated and explored the area. We had a really comfortable space and alot of amenities. A beautiful place to stay! We could walk to taprooms, brewery etc.
The house and room was amazing. The large soaking tub was a great addition.
The hosts were very friendly and helpful. We can’t wait for our next visit.

This is a beautifully restored historic home that is convenient to the town. When we were there in March, there was no host on site. And the town was quiet. Restaurants were mostly closed on Sunday and Monday.
The room (Ebony Rouge) was spacious and surprising it felt quite private despite being on the first floor. Lots of snacks and beverages available 24 hr. The bed was unbelievably comfortable.

What an amazing time we had! This house is so cool. The suite we stayed in was so beautiful. Appalachacola is a step back in time. Staying here really sealed the deal. It was so clean and the bed slept great. The host June was so wonderful her gardening skills are to envy. She thought of everything from snacks to candy to the well set up coffee station. We will definitely be back soon!
Beautiful historical house within walking distance of many restaurants and bars.

About the host
Hosted by June Quinn and Greg Vance
Greg & June's dream came true when they purchased this historic home in Apalachicola! They were determined to bring this jewel back to life! With the help of a few good friends & countless electricians & plumbers, their vision became a reality!
They love sharing their home & the charming little town of Apalachicola with guests. After selling their import business in 2020, they are able to spend about 70% of the month in Apalachicola & the remainder at their home in Atlanta. Although they are not in residence 100% of the time, they welcome requests from guests who prefer to visit while they are there.
Why they chose this property
In 2017, seeking to simplify life, the search was on for an opportunity to open a "small" business in Apalachicola. All roads kept leading back to the old bank on Avenue E. It had so much potential yet had been sitting dark & empty for almost 8 years! It was originally built in 1908 as a private residence for the family of a prominent German immigrant who made his wealth in the dry goods industry in Apalachicola. It remained in the Flatauer family until the 1980's when it was bought, restored & converted into a bank & insurance agency. The old bank lobby is now the Hospitality Lobby & guest kitchenette. History of the home & its people are exhibited here.
What makes this property unique
Staying at the Majestic Jewel Inn is the best way to experience southern grandeur in the charming little town of Apalachicola! It is located in the center of the historic district & less than 2 blocks from the town! Walk to restaurants, galleries, shops & pubs or stroll around the neighborhood. The river wharf & the bay are only a 4 block walk. Beauty literally surrounds us! For beach lovers, St George Island is a 10 minute drive & Cape San Blas is 20 minutes.
The veranda wraps around 3 sides of the Majestic Jewel! It is the best place to relax & catch the breeze!
