About this property
Luxuriously Restored Historic Hilltop Estate with Harbor & Ocean views
Buccaneer Hill sits high on a hilltop overlooking Governors Harbour and the Caribbean Sea beyond. With stunning views, a private pool, and beautiful lawns and gardens, the property exudes the grace and elegance of an in-town estate. This grand 19th century home was completely restored in 2009 with modern comforts and conveniences. Buccaneer Hill sleeps 10 guests in 5 bedrooms.
The ground floor features a large living and dining area spanning the length and breadth of the house. Outside, a large veranda faces the sea, and offers two additional seating areas and covered dining. A modern kitchen with stainless steel Kitchen-aid appliances and full amenities is located just off the main room. The first floor also has a powder room.
On the second floor are three large bedroom suites. The master has a king bed, the first guest bedroom has a king bed, and the second guest room has two full beds. All bedrooms have en-suite full baths and balconies. Floors are elegantly finished in polished oak.
On the third floor, a large bunk room features 6 twin beds and a sitting area, a haven for the children. This bedroom also has an en suite full bath.
The fifth bedroom is a private bedroom suite on the ground floor with a private entrance, a king bed, and an en suite bath.
The house sits on nearly two acres with mature fruit and poinciana trees. The extensive veranda is furnished for dining, or BBQ outside by the pool. The main veranda faces west, to capture stunning sunsets over the Harbour and the sea.
Amenities and equipment include air conditioning, cable TV, super-fast Stalink WIFI, books, puzzles, croquet, ping pong table, gas grill, and daily housekeeping (included in the rent). The house has a washer and dryer for use by the housekeeper. She will do your laundry twice a week.
The town of Governors Harbour, a three-minute walk down the hill, has a charming collection of 19th century homes and churches overlooking its historic harbor. Buy fresh fish and lobster most afternoons from fisherman at the town dock, or visit the recently restored Haynes Library, which dates from 1897, for the weekly coffee hour for foreign residents and tourists. Governors Harbour has grocery stores, restaurants, liquor stores, two banks with ATMs, a bakery, gift shops, and a medical clinic. Friday Night Fish Fry in Governors Harbour, a street/beach party that brings together all the tourists and locals with food, drink, and dancing in the street, is not to be missed.
A 10 minute walk in the other direction takes you to French Leave Beach, a mile-long crescent of pink sand that has been ranked in the top 20 beaches of the world. Most visitors to Eleuthera rent a car, because the island is rural and spread out, and a car is the only practical way to get around. By car, Buccaneer Hill is just a minute from French Leave Beach.
Eleuthera is famous for its 100 miles of spectacular, deserted beaches. The island, home to just 8000 residents, is famously safe. The snorkeling, diving, and fishing on the island are world class. Boating, surfing, and other water sports are also popular. You can rent power boats, sailboats, sea kayaks, jet skis, scooters, and bikes. You can have a charter captain take you out for excursions of various types. There is excellent sightseeing as well. Eleuthera has vast caves, cliffs, a bottomless ocean hole, many unique beaches, historic churches and 19th century homes, and small villages to explore. We hope you will enjoy Buccaneer Hill, and experience all our island has to offer.
