About this property
Elegant and Historic Home in The Fan Available Long-Term May 1, 2026-2027.
Are you in need of a long-term rental in the most sought after area in Richmond? For professionals, med students, professors on sabbaticals, a family whose home is under renovation, or if one wishes for a "taste of The Fan" prior to making a home purchase.
On historic Hanover Avenue and only a few blocks from The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts; The Virginia Museum of History and Culture; The Science Museum; highly-rated restaurants plus small neighborhood markets and miles of trails for biking and hiking plus the river for kayaking and its beautiful scenery.
Built in 1904, the home is tastefully decorated and graced with an array of southern charm. Typical of the homes in the Fan, the front and back parlor serve respectively as the living and dining rooms, and are elegantly furnished.
The sunny, art-enhanced kitchen is well-equipped for anyone who enjoys cooking. A foodie's delight!
The sunroom’s Palladium windows allow the sun and the beauty of the boxwood-filled garden to come inside, creating a feeling of calm. The outdoor deck with adjoining formal garden is just the place to dine al fresco or relax in the fresh air.
Upstairs, the master bedroom with queen bed is full of light coming through the bay window. The adjoining bath is tiled with Carrara marble with walls attractively hand-painted in an abstract design by a local artist. A Venetian chandelier hangs from the ceiling.
There are two guest bedrooms: one with a double bed and the other with an antique iron single bed. Add a futon in the sunroom and it could become a 4th bedroom. A hall bath with double imported-marble sink serves both of these two rooms.
This is a rare opportunity to experience the elegance and charm of one of Richmond’s distinctive neighborhoods with well-preserved architectural details alongside modern amenities. The home offers an inviting atmosphere suitable for professionals, families, or those seeking a temporary place in a central location. Completely furnished.

If you're looking for the quintessential "Fan" experience, look no further. Julie's home is perfectly situated pretty much in the center of the neighborhood, and it has everything you could possibly need or want. Pro-tip: hit up Joe's a couple of blocks away for breakfast, lunch, dinner or a night cap!

A jewel box of art, history, and hospitality
We just spent 2 weeks at Julie's lovely Richmond home over Christmas. This house is (as described) located in the heart of The Fan residential district of Richmond. The neighborhood is steeped in historic and architectural beauty. Aside from it's convenient driving location to all activities in the city, just walking the neighborhood is a highlight of staying there as there are restaurants, museums, churches, and parks all within a few minutes walk from the house. Julie is a warm and gracious host and offered to stock the kitchen with anything we needed before our arrival. The kitchen was well-equipped and a great neighborhood grocery is just 2 blocks away. The beds had very comfortable mattresses and linens. The bathrooms were spacious and well-supplied with plenty of towels, wash cloths, soap, and other supplies. Julie has curated a beautiful and impressive collection of art and antiques throughout her home...many are heirlooms from her family. All of these treasures fit perfectly into this 1904 town home. The remodeled and updated bathrooms, kitchen, and sunroom are sympathetically coordinated with the historic features to bring 21st century comfort and convenience. While there is no designated off-street parking for this house (or most in the neighborhood), we had no trouble at all parking 2 cars in front of the house during our entire stay. While not a place for children or anyone unable to manage stairs, this is a charming home for a Richmond visit. We plan to return this Spring for another 2 week stay and look forward to enjoying the garden, front and side porches.

Due to its historic nature, I am very selective as to whom stays in my home. Consequently, I always request additional information about the potential guests. Upon reading Leslie's bio, I knew immediately she and her family would be a "best fit" for my home. This was reinforced through communication via email prior to their stay, culminating when I actually met this awesome woman and her husband.
Leslie, thank you for a lovely review of my "jewel box" home which I find such a charming way of describing it. She and her husband took such good care of everything in my home and, when I walked in upon their departure, would never have known there were visitors there for the past two weeks!
If Leslie lived here in Richmond, I would want her to be a friend. Thanks, Leslie, for your warmth and kindness. I look forward to your return trip!
I truly enjoyed my visit! I lived in Richmond for several years, came back to visit friends and this was the perfect place to stay. The homeowners were very hospitable and the house was incredibly clean and well-maintained. The location was safe and easy access to the museum district, Carytown and Broad St. I look forward to visiting again soon!

Carolyn was an excellent guest. We communicated a lot prior to the visit, and being that she had previously lived in Richmond, knew the area. When I arrived home after her departure, I could not tell anyone had visited. Without hesitation, she is highly recommended as a guest.
The property was in an excellent location. It was central to the places we wanted to visit. It was comfortable staying there.Julie Scott, the owner, got back to us within a timely manner. It was fun to sit on her front porch after dinner .We would definitely stay there again.

Dorothy was an excellent guest in my home. She and I had great communication prior to and during her stay and she showed great respect and care for my home and its contents. Of course, I would recommend her to future homeowners and welcome her back in my home in a second!
Julie was wonderful to work with as she was very communicative and had a team available to help when some questions arose. The home has beautiful, modern bathrooms and kitchen and the rest of the home has a great comfortable feel.

A nice stay
The location of this home was perfect for where we needed to be. Parking was challenging but not impossible. The owner was easy to work with. In cooler weather the outdoor space would be a great place to hang out.

Delightful house & location
This was a perfect house and location for our ladies week in Richmond. The house is lovely and well taken care of. Julie was very helpful and very welcoming and made our stay so comfortable. The fan district is central to so many things and we especially enjoyed being able to walk to a number of restaurants and the art museum and historical society. On a return visit to Richmond we would definitely stay here again. Fanny W

Love this place. Gorgeous old building, perfectly kept and wonderful hospitality
My family and i stayed here and totally felt like home. The house has.3 gorgeous bedrooms that were roomy and had all the old charm with fireplaces and tall ceilings and beautiful windows. The linens were cozy and the colors light and airy. The dining room had a nice big table to seat 12 of my favorite aunts, uncles, cousins etc. It was the perfect Christmas holiday house with a nice glow about it. The neighborhood fantastic and the art museum a quick walk away. And what a fantastic art museum!! Julie is the most wonderful host. We will be badk many times!!

Hanover house
Great location, lovely home, and very accommodating host - I gave it four stars because the living spaces are small but that is quite typical of the area and it is an historic home that has been well-tended.

Having just placed my home on VRBO in the summer of 2015, the September guests who wrote the above review were my first. I would like to add that they were here for the UCI Road World Cycling Event --- with all members of the family Olympic gold-medal winners and the son (6'6") winning the Team Time Trial. What an honor! I wish they had not given me 4 stars as my house is actually a 10! Check for yourself ---- the measurements below show the rooms are quite adequate in size.
The 2000 block of Hanover is considered to be one of the elite avenues in the historic area. Our block has houses that range from 2,000 sq. ft (the size of my house) to 4,000 sq. ft. The measurements of my first floor rooms are as follows: front parlor (living room): 14' x 15'; back parlor (formal dining room): 14' x 15'; kitchen: 21' x 15'; sunroom: 10' x 15'. The hallways upstairs and downstairs are narrow as are the 1st floor 1/2 bath and washer/dryer closet tucked under the staircase (Victorian houses have few storage spaces.) The pantry in the kitchen is small but well stocked. The houses are close to one another and run deep on the property --- all making for the charm of living in The Fan!
I prefer to be very selective and limit my guests to adults as the house is immaculate and well tended. Will be on The Fan Woman's Club Kitchen and Garden Tour in the spring of 2016.
