Our grandparents built this cottage in the 1940's. It is an adorable camp set back from the road with parking for several cars. Plenty of trees keeping it cool. Right on the water-sit on dock and watch the sun come up. Listen to the loons. Look for the bald eagles , a nest is nearby. Sit in the screened porch and watch the boats -some with motors and others not. Firepit out front to make s'mores before bed. Go up onto the covered entrance porch , then step into the galley style kitchen. There is a microwave, toasteroven, coffee maker, gas stove/oven and fridge. Then step into the living room where there is a couch, fireplace, tv( no reception), board games, dvd player and comfy chair. Going straight thru leads to the bathroom with shower. Turn back into the living room there are 2 doors to your left. The first bedroom has bunk beds and a double bed along with a dresser, lamp and window. The next bedroom has a queen bed, dresser , few books, lamp and 2 windows. it looks onto the entrance porch and out to parking area. Going back into living room and straight across to the full length screened in porch. Round table and rectangle table with porch chairs or metal glider to sit. Go down the steps onto the lawn, picnic table, firepit, dock and water. There is a clothesline and horseshoe pit off to the side. The water is sandy-silt bottom and gradually deepens. The shoreline has a small sandy beach beside the sloped granite bedrock to the dock, which is put in from early June to Labor Day.

It was perfect! The listing was spot on and the host had great communication. The place was clean when we got there. Had a wonderful time grilling, having fires, reading out on the dock and playing horseshoes. We cant wait to go back.
Great little rustic cottage, definitely need space heaters for the colder nights, our first night was very cold, the flue damper could only be closed or wide open so the heat didn’t stay in the cabin well with just a fire. Hot water also did not last long but I think it was because of the very cold night we had. Other than that it was a great little place for the weekend to relax and shut off the world for a while. Directly on the water, great views, loved relaxing by the fire pit, Would stay again!
We arrived to lights on and the door unlocked; no key to be found. Later found key hanging in living room. Dark, cool rainy weekend that required use of fireplace. No working smoke alarms. Bathroom was indeed rustic, with old, used soap in the soap dish, Wall behind toilet black with mold? not sure. Revisiting listing, closer inspection showed the electrical system showing on the walls. Renter beware, this is for the person who enjoys roughing it. In the summer, it is probably a lot easier to ignore the inside of the cottage. In the Fall, not so much.

Went from good to terrible
We rented this cabin last fall and we loved it that's why we rebooked this year and the cabin was filthy there was no utensils and the ones that they did have or weren't even functionable such as the skillet that was all beat up and scratched no plates dirty dishes when we got there it was cold and we realized there was no heat so we did bring a heating blanket which was fine but that next morning we didn't have any water from the lake and we called the owner and it took her several hours to get back to us it finally did fill up and then the next morning we woke up at 7:00 a.m. no water called the owner she didn't get back to us we called her several times before noon and still didn't have any water so we couldn't take a shower the toilet was filled with waste so we had to leave and go get a hotel room because the place was unacceptable to live the owner never called us so we finally got a hold of her around noon and she said she couldn't get anybody there till at night anyway so at that point we were already getting a hotel room and she was going to refund our money for the one night it's been 3 weeks we've been emailing and calling her and she's been avoiding us and we never received a check I think this is very unprofessional of her knowing our situation that the cabin was unacceptable to live that she could have refunded us the last night because we had to go pay for a hotel room would never go back to this place again or recommend it
The only heat source is a fireplace. Not a woodstove, and no mention in the listing of whether there was even wood. We came prepared with hardwood, but most of the heat still went up the chimney. Really, a woodstove is really needed here. Owner said "just close off the second bedroom and bathroom, and that someone had stayed there until Thanksgiving one year. Hmm. Maybe with a few space heaters. The weekend was the first real cold of the fall, with a high on Friday of on 50 and 40 mph winds blowing right off the water. Saturday not a lot better. We checked in to find the coffee maker had not been cleaned and was disgusting and moldy. The toilet works poorly - filling slowly and draining like it was half-clogged. It's a truly beautiful spot on the lake, but needs some TLC even for family use, much less rental. I DO like rustic camps, but again, this one needs some basic upkeep.
This place is amazingly peaceful, off the bitten path. The views and the lake are gorgeous!
The cottage has all the basics. Clean, comfortable! Quiet and solitude are abundant! The fireplace is lovely! Bring plenty of firewood as it gets chilly! On our come back to list!
This is the most peaceful, beautiful spot for a week to unwind, enjoy nature, rest, have fun, enjoy each other's company...we've stayed a few years at this cabin and will continue to book as long as it's available and we are healthy! Eagles, Kayaks, fires, clean lake. The only regret is not booking for 2 weeks!! We're always so sad to leave this spot.
This was a perfect camp for us to celebrate my daughter’s birthday with a friends. Easy boat access even with the dock pulled for the winter. Wonderful location with loons calling from the lake. Enjoyed the fireplace on a chilly evening and morning and cooked over the fire pit.
We are so glad to have found this little gem! It is exactly as listed, very rustic, “old school “ NH lake cabin. My husband and I both grew up spending summer vacations on the NH lakes and it was very nostalgic for us. We love being outdoors, camping, and just enjoying the sounds and sights of nature, and this was the perfect spot to do all of that. To be perfectly honest, I called it “a step above camping” and I mean that in a very respectful way, because I believe that is what this property was originally meant to be.
The cabin is cozy and has all the equipment you need for cooking, but don’t expect a stocked spice cabinet or condiments left behind in these pandemic times (thank you!!). Hot water is adequate, and there was toilet paper, dish detergent, and other cleaning supplies available. The queen bed was soft which I prefer. The beds in the bunk room seemed firmer, but we didn’t use those.
Our favorite was enjoying the campfire overlooking the lake at night, and star gazing. We heard a few loon calls but they didn’t seem too active during our time there. LOVED the screened porch!
We will definitely return!
If you are looking for a place to rest and relax then this is the place to stay. It was very clean and the views of the lake are amazing, whether it was from the dock or the beautiful screened in porch. We never wanted to leave the property. We are looking forward to a return trip in the future.
My best friend and I were looking to get away for the weekend at a "cabin in the woods" and this was a great find!! It was pretty chilly (Oct 2-4) but the fireplace helped. Beautiful views of the lake and not far from "downtown". We definitely want to come back in the summer!
Although rustic and a bit cold, the fireplace served us well and the magnificent view of the lake made up for it. We enjoyed a time of peace, restoration and refreshment. Next time a few weeks earlier might be better. The location is close to perfection. Thank you for sharing this slice of heaven !!
I thought the location was terrific. The house is steps from the lake. I thought there were a few simple things that could have been provided to make the experience better (e.g., soap, shampoo, bath mat,). Sleeping at night was cold and a couple space heaters this time of year would have been great. Overall robin was very communicative, and notwithstanding the small potential improvements noted above I would definitely stay again!
We fully enjoyed our week at this quaint, rustic cabin. The sandy walk in was perfect for swimming & the dock is nice & wide for sunbathing. We enjoyed the big screened in porch for every meal! We would definitely itely come again!

About the host
Hosted by Robin Simons
My Grandfather used to hunt all this area in the 1920 when there was only one camp in the area. In the 30's this property came available and he bought it. When our Dad was a toddler there are pictures of him playing with the building material as his brother and parents built the camp. Decades later, us kids enjoyed a break from the family dairy farm in Sanbornton to come for a swim before going back to chores. Now as adults, we own this cottage with fond memories. Making more memories as we bring our kids to the family camp.
Why they chose this property
Family heritage-this place is so wonderful and peaceful. It is rustic. There is a bathroom added on. It is lake water so drinkable water needs to be brought in. The firepit out front-cook hotdogs then roast marshmallow for desert-kids running in and out of the water-just perfect. Walking or bike along Black Brook Road pleasant and beautiful.
What makes this property unique
On the water, sort of at the end of Lake Winnisquam. No tv reception but dvd player if really necessary. Bring your kayak or rent one from Winnisquam Marina or Piche's in Belmont, NH and enjoy the water. Enjoy a sunrise on the water. Listen to the loons! Watch the eagles. A quiet location but you are not far from Weirs Beach, FunSpot, Meredith, Laconia, or Tilton Outlet shops. Then back to the peaceful beauty at the camp.
