About the host
Hosted by Owner / Property Manager
Our family has been living on Long Pond since 1937. George and Ellen Holbrook first purchased a summer camp (complete with ice house) on November 30. 1937. The purchase price was $400, payable in monthly installments of $20 and earning interest at 5% per year. Since then five generations of Holbrook descendants have called Long Pond home.
Why they chose this property
The Cove Cottage property was originally part of the Helen Storrow Girl Scout Camp which thrived from 1917 well into the 1970's. Helen was the wife of James Jackson Storrow for whom Storrow Drive in Boston was named.
Hundreds of young campers enjoyed swimming and boating and exploring the natural beauty of Long Pond including Sylvia Plath who spent the summers of 1945 and 1946 at the Camp.

What makes this property unique
Long Pond is one of Massachusetts' deepest natural lakes and home to a vibrant and healthy ecosystem. Long Pond is considered one of the best fisheries in the state and has been described as mecca for trout fishing in southeastern Massachusetts. Bald eagles, ospreys, herons, and at least a dozen herp species reside here (including one endangered turtle). An extensive network of walking trails in the local area has been developed by the Wildlands Trust and provide a wonderful introduction to the unique pine barrens system. On summer nights the sound of traditional music drifting across the water from the Pinewoods Dance Camp is a special treat.
