Exquisite Home
Think of a beautiful, spacious, designer decorated, fabulously equipped home…and then multiply it. I can’t believe we found this rental! And, to top it off, the owner and property manager were absolutely wonderful to work with. If you can rent this home (and it is a home - not just a house) you shouldn’t hesitate. Thank you - we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Massachusetts.

Wonderful summer family vacation
Our family of nine adults enjoyed a wonderful summer vacation at this property. Fern was welcoming, generous, and responsive. Her house manager, Olympia, was terrific, dealing with any questions or concerns promptly. The house is expansive, comfortable, beautifully decorated and fully outfitted. There was lots of space and adequate Wi-Fi for four people to work simultaneously while others could relax. We enjoyed spending time together in many common areas, cooking in the huge kitchen, and eating in the glass conservatory. The property and pool are beautifully landscaped with awesome views of surrounding mountains. The location is great, near to many towns, cultural attractions and recreational activities. We all wished our stay could have been longer and would gladly return to vacation here again. Thank you, Fern.

Not a white Christmas in the Berkshire's but it sparkled none the less
Our family spent Christmas and New Years at this gorgeous home and I can't say enough about this experience. There were 12 in our party including our 2 1/2 year old granddaughter and we all felt the same about this incredible setting for our vacation. Fern's house is big but it exudes warmth and coziness that was perfect for our holiday getaway. The chef's kitchen was the highlight for us. It was well appointed with an 8 burner Wolf stove, massive counter top/breakfast bar and a well stocked fridge and pantry, all for our use. BONUS - the freezer stocked with ice cream!! There were ample bedrooms and bathrooms and lots of space for hanging out and for sneaking away for a nap or a good read. Another room in the house I visited daily was the gym. Fully outfitted with weights, a Peloton, a TV and a ballet barre. What a pleasure to have in a vacation rental. While we didn't have snow to speak of, we did get a few days of light snow and did some sledding. The house also has a play structure with a slide and swings. Fun for everyone. We are seriously considering coming back next year and would highly recoomend

About the host

Host profile image
We have been Berkshire homeowners for 20 plus years and have adored living and playing with our large extended, blended family in this very special home since 2015.

Our family has 8 children plus spouses and 10 grandchildren who visit with their friends and ours throughout the summer -- enjoying the house and the amenities in the Berkshires. Theatre, Tanglewood, hiking, golf, shopping, skiing. We have completely renovated the house, including a new and larger kitchen in 2018; master bedroom, dressing room and bath in 2017: and all new landscaping in 2019. We are making the house available for minimum five day rentals with flexible arrival and departure days/dates. We have enjoyed fabulous Thanksgivings, Christmas and New Years, Leaf Peeping (October), and Presidents Day holidays with the house's 5 bedrooms filled and with the kitchen humming.

Why they chose this property

There are very few properties in the Berkshires that can compare to the size, beauty and location of The Birches. The views are incomparable. Every possible amenity is included and the entire house and all of its HVAC and other systems are brand new. You'll have privacy but proximity to the town of Egremont and the larger town of Great Barrington. Everything you could possibly need is within 15 minutes or less., e.g., Guidos, a grocery like Whole Foods, ski areas, hiking, lakes.

The Berkshires means home to me. My husband and I have been in the Berkshires or visiting the Berkshires all of our lives. I went to camp in the Berkshires where I was a camper and then a counselor. My aunt and uncle, my mother, and my daughter have each owned homes in the Berkshires. I

I didn't so much choose the Berkshires as it chose me. When I met my husband he asked me if I had ever been to the Berkshires and if I liked it. When he told me he had a house in the Berkshires, I knew our relationship was destined.
We bought the Birches together in 2015.

What makes this property unique

The best thing about the house is eating in the conservatory kitchen area. Some families who have rented from us have told us they stayed around the table talking or playing Scrabble a good part of the day and for hours after dinner. I like the view from the conservatory where you can see the front lawn as well as the mountains. In the early morning, my favorite thing to do is to sit on the east patio and watch the sun come up over the mountains and flood the fields with light. In the evening, I like to sit on the west patio to read and watch the sun as it moves across the western sky.

We like to have all the bedrooms filled, one of our sons in the kitchen making a gourmet meal, and our grandchildren in the pool. Nothing could be better!
