Spend the night in history. Secluded 1828 Federal Style Home is 5 min from market / gas; 15 from Walmart & other dining and shopping. 15 acre homestead inside of 100 acre farmland convenient to Nashville and Huntsville. Master bed/bath with hand carved 1800s bedroom suite (queen bed); non-functional but beautiful fireplaces in each room, vaulted ceilings, hand carved trim and doors, large windows to watch sunset over hills and fields of grain. Beautiful porches, landscapes, and scenery. This is a beautiful, historic home that is listed in the National Historic Register. Built in 1828 you will be stepping back in time when you stay here. Take time to notice all the amazing, intricate craftsmanship of this home. The beautiful fireplaces in each room are wonderful to look at and add to the historic feel of the home but they are non-functional, please do not attempt to use. We recently put new energy efficient windows in the main living and kitchen area which helps the heating and cooling of our home immensely but during cold snaps the house can still be drafty due to the rock walls and brick flooring as well as the original windows in the historic part of the house as well. Please be mindful that you are renting a 200 year old home surrounded by farmland. It has original rock walls, original brick flooring and very old windows. Our bathrooms are getting an update during our next renovation but please be aware that the tubs drain slowly and have some staining that is permanent but they have been sanitized! The 6th president of the United States was in office when this home was constructed. Because of that it can smell musty if we've had a lot of rain and in certain times of the year you may see stink bugs or lady bugs or an occasional mouse. This is the country after all! Although we have modernized and have wifi and cell service, and all major services and appliances, take a moment to unwind and relax. Sit on the back porch and watch the fireflies or gaze at the stars and milky way which are incredibly bright because there is almost no light pollution. Due to covid delays our remodel of our outdoor area has been delayed. You will notice a new screened in porch which is still awaiting screening. Our new shed area is almost complete (with a new hot tub) but you will notice our beautiful landscaping has taken a beating with recent storms, freezes and construction. Please excuse some of the landscaping roughness while you enjoy our new amenities. You will have access to the entire home. Please stay out of the shed as well as the old barn on the property. Respect all wildlife, no hunting, fireworks or firearms allowed on the property. We live in the Middle TN area and will be available by phone if you should need us during your stay. This is a secluded area but you are within 15-20 minutes of Columbia with many restaurant and shopping conveniences. Owners have a cat and dogs that will not be here during your reservation but they do occasionally come inside, please be aware if you have allergies.

We spent a few days here for our anniversary and enjoyed a relaxing time. The property is beautiful and the location is peaceful and quiet. We also enjoyed watching the deer and wild turkey that frequented the property every morning and evening. A great place to vacation!

I'm so glad you stayed with us again and we will welcome you back anytime!
We had a multi-generation family stay at the property. It met our needs. I was concerned about a previous comment the home being drafty, it was nicely heated. I would stay again for sure.

I'm glad you enjoyed your stay! We did replace our windows that helped the heating situation greatly!
I came up from Florida for a few days with my 2 youngest children and my beat friend. We were ALL IN AWE of the house and property. The owners were awesome with communication. Just an all around good time and I hope to come stay here again!

Happiness at Historic Hideaway
We are so grateful that we had the opportunity to spend time at this lovely property. The pictures were true portrayals of the home, although it was more spacious than one would think. The host even had cookies waiting for us upon arrival, which my boys thoroughly enjoyed!
I will certainly see if the home is available next time we are in town. Thank you for a nice experience!

Jacqueline and family were perfect renters, leaving the home in spotless condition. Truly a wonderful experience as owners to have the property in such loving hands.
It was a very pleasant stay for a very busy few days. The peaceful retreat was a great balance to the hectic wedding schedule. Was a bit disappointed that there was only one shower (2 bathrooms only one had shower). It wasn't a huge issue for us as there were only 3 of us.

I’m so glad you had a good time. I’m sorry you were disappointed by just one shower, our bathroom configuration is clearly listed in our description.
This house is amazing so much history. Loved the charm of an old Plantation. We really wished we had a few more days the property is beautiful, quiet farm land all around. It wasn't until we were leaving we discovered a game room and another bedroom in the basement. If you are looking for something other than a hotel room just a few minutes from the city this cannot be matched. Thank you Denise we will be back one day Michael Sullivan

So glad you enjoyed yourselves! I can't believe you missed the game room downstairs until the end! That's a good excuse to come back again!
Close to wedding venue.
Hard to keep house warm, but we were warned. Mold in bathroom.
Electricity in a couple of rooms constantly tripped.
Would o stay there again, yes
What an adventure this property was! Kind of like staying in a museum at spots with all the antique furniture, this property offered everything we needed (firefly catching, proximity to Nashville and family, plenty of beds and baths for those staying) along with a massive table to gather around at the end of the day. Overall I enjoyed the stay and would stay at again!
The house was absolutely beautiful and in a peaceful setting. The only thing that we had troubles with was trying to stay warm. Every place we went was extremely cold and when we came back to the house we couldn't get it any warmer than 60. I don't believe that it is any fault of the owners, just mother nature.
We were a group of five veterans and were lucky enough to find this property and the rental price was very reasonable. The house has been updated and is in very good condition and still retains the the flavor of the time it was built in the early 1800s. The location is very good, isolated, but still close to several cities and small towns with much to see and do. Communication with the host was excellent and they provided us with information about the house and the local area. I would highly recommend this property and the folks who own it.
We thoroughly enjoyed this peaceful, historical home. It was very clean and furnished with everything we could possibly need. During our stay, we took a 35 minute drive to Ethridge to the Amish community, 45 minute drive to Franklin for wonderful antique shopping, and visited with family in Murfreesboro. We enjoyed coffee on the porch while we watched wildlife in the surrounding fields and listened to crickets and birds. Thank you for sharing your interesting and historical home.
Reserved this house for our wedding coordinator that came in from out of town. She did arrive earlier than check in time since she traveled in. The owners gratuitously allowed us to check her in 20 minutes early which was so helpful since we had so much to unload and get done! The cottage probably has more civil war history than I can even imaging. It is so cool! The wild life views in the mornings were relaxing. You won’t regret your stay!

Absolutely beautiful setting Fantastic price. Owners very nice. Would consider staying each time I visited the area if the location is advantageous for all we plan to do.

This Vrbo is quaint! The historical aspects of it make it all the more special. It looks like it has been preserved and managed very well over the years. The home was well equipped with amenities. The only constructive feedback I can provide is 1) update the mattresses for a more comfortable sleeping experience and 2) deep clean the couches or replace them. They have an unpleasant odor.

I'm glad you had a great time! Thank you for the feedback. I'm sorry about the odor, I do not believe it is the couches, you visited during "stink" bug season and sometimes they can congregate in that window above the couch and put off an odor. We have found a new pest company who has gotten the stink bugs under control and it shouldn't be a problem again.
Columbia is where our roots are. Mama was born there 92 years ago and although things have changed a lot, there’s no place like home! Loved this beautiful farm property! The antiques were beautiful and the home was very welcoming.. We used the kitchen for big meals, gathered around the table for fellowship and enjoyed the fire pit.. Night walks made way for awesome star gazing as we admired the Blue Moon... We will be back to this cozy, private, beautiful farm getaway...

So glad you enjoyed yourself! Can't wait to have you back!
We were down for our 5 year Cotton Pickin Reunion in Elkmont, AL, due to COVID we decided staying with family was not the best option, I found this home about 45 mins out which was just perfect for Us, Kids & Grandkids - it accommodated ages 57 - 10 months just wonderfully, plenty of room inside to lounge, watch the grandkids play & enjoy hanging out with family. The property is absolutely beautiful, everyone enjoyed hiking the trails, exploring and sitting by the fire pit at night. The home has so much character a great combination of old and new, equipped with everything needed for a stay away from home. If needed we would most definitely stay there again. It would have been nice to have had time to check some of the local areas out, at our Cotton Pickin event we were given suggestions of things to see, restaurant to visit nearby and heard a few story's of visits to Culleoka :) Before we left we made sure to take advantage of a family picture on the front steps, which has received many "likes" and awesome comments!!! It was all in all a Wonderful Stay!!!

About the host
Hosted by Denise Tabscott
Chris and Denise met at the University of Central Florida and have been married 20 years. We moved to TN in 1999 and fell in love with the area. We have raised our 3 kids here and currently live in the Middle Tennessee area.
Why they chose this property
We love the country and historic homes and looked for years for a property like this. When we found this property we fell in love with it and look forward to retiring there. We often come for relaxing weekends and vacations and love unplugging and unwinding and being in the middle of nature. Life tends to slow down when you are at the Historic Hideaway and we can't wait to share that experience with our guests.
What makes this property unique
Make sure to pull up a lawn chair in the back yard in the summertime and watch the millions of fireflies dance in the twilight during the summer months. This house was built with a breezeway effect so to cool down open the front door and pull down the screen and open the back door and allow the cool breeze to come through the house.
