About this property
Casita Madina - w/ Rooftop Terrace, Pool, Views Of Bay & Zona Romantica
Casa Madina was just remodeled in the fall of 2025, including a new covered rooftop deck, that takes the view from beautiful to stunning. From the new deck, you see Old Town and Centro, including the Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Great for the catching the nightly fireworks, or city lights or the beautiful Banderas Bay.
A cozy studio at the top of Alta Vista is yours to enjoy in this traditional styled home. Private entrance, well appointed kitchenette, large bathroom with open shower and closet with shelves and hangers. The main room has a queen sized bed, a loveseat seating area and a table with 2 chairs for dining or catching up on emails, 40" TV, WiFi, microwave, stove/oven, coffee maker, toaster, ceiling fan and A/C.
At the end of the day, head up to the rooftop terrace and solar heated soaking pool (shared with guests of Casa Madina). With fabulous views of the bay and the Zona Romantica, you can dine outside, enjoy a drink or relax in the pool.
Due to the increasing fees from VRBO (including CC fees), we have had to change to a single payment. Sorry for any confusion or for the impact as we try to manage the increasing fees from VRBO.
Located walking distance to restaurants, shops, bars (5+ min) and beaches (~20 min) in Old Town.
All guests (Casa and Casita) will have access to the rooftop terrace and Rooftop Pool. The views of the bay and the Zona Romantica are very relaxing.
Casita Madina is in Alta Vista in a quiet, residential, mostly Mexican neighborhood. Located at the top of a hill (which gives us great views, but does require walking up some hilly roads or a long set of stairs - or a taxi), there is little traffic. The neighbors are very friendly and some speak English.
Some neighbors have dogs, who love to come visit at Casita Madina. Please don't let them in, but also please be friendly. They are all friendly dogs and help watch out for the house.
There are also several stray cats in the neighborhood, many of whom like to sunbathe on our rooftop terrace. We have citronella spray to help keep them away. You can spray it anywhere the cats gather and they should stay away.
Puerto Vallarta First-timers to Puerto Vallarta come for the sun, sea and fun, but soon discover the fantastic restaurants that keep them coming back.
The Malecón is Puerto Vallarta´s beautiful boardwalk and covers nearly two miles along the beach. Surrounded by different bars, nightclubs and restaurants the Malecón is lined by large bronze sculptures from many talented local artists.
Dining: From fresh, street corner taco stands, to exquisite high-end meals, Puerto Vallarta has it all. You can dine overlooking the city and the bay or with your feet buried in the sand under a palapa. A variety of food from around Mexico to Italian, Burgers, German, ‘American’, Pizza, Asian and more can be found in Puerto Vallarta and all of it uses fresh-caught fish, fresh local vegetables and home-made tortillas and salsas! Best of all, no need to dress up – Puerto Vallarta is very casual and you can wear what makes you comfortable.
Connoisseurs of fine dining are in paradise each November, during Puerto Vallarta's annual Gourmet Dining Festival, and in May every year we have the Restaurant Week(s), at the end of the month.
Some nearby restaurants include Tony’s Please, El Brujo, Los Lirios, and Memo’s Taco stand. Just a little further away, you’ll find Tre Piatti, Los Muertos Brewery, Fredy’s Tucan, Margarita Grill, Fajita Republic, Joe’s Fish Shack, .
Just across the river Rio Cuale to the south lays the Southside with all it's cozy restaurants as La Palapa, Joe Jack's Fish Shack, Daiquiri Dick's, Langoustine's by the pier, Bravo, Fajita Republic and so many more in addition to everything from wonderful little Mexican family-owned restaurants to great taco stands.
About Puerto Vallarta The beautiful Banderas Bay, nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Madre mountain range, is the second largest bay in the Western Hemisphere. Its climate is sub-tropical and features many dense forests, rivers and waterfalls. With an average temperature of 27°C (80°F), it is dry in winter and humid with some afternoon showers in the summer. The rain usually falls in the late afternoons with clear blue skies in the day, making it a year round holiday spot.
Puerto Vallarta's incredible natural beauty combined with the small town atmosphere and the warmth and friendliness of the people makes Puerto Vallarta a very special place.
The old and the new are blended in Puerto Vallarta, and offers all from simple pleasures to sophisticated charms. Here one can find anything from Taco stands to exclusive restaurants, quaint art galleries, air conditioned shopping centers with movie theaters, café's, beach vendors selling Mexican handicrafts, traditional open air markets, walking Mariachi bands on the beach and an incredible variety of activities such as whale watching, boat dinner cruises, Botanical garden, swimming with dolphins, zip lines, tours to near villages, fishing, snorkeling and an array of sight-seeing tours.

Matt made certain we had all we needed for a comfortable stay! We loved the proximity to everything PV! We walked to a lot of restaurants, the Malecón, the beaches, and the markets and most everything PV has to offer is walkable. We had two Terrances, with lots of seating where we enjoyed the west coast breezes at night coming from the bay. The top terrace provides views of Zona Romántica and the Bay of Banderas. The pool was the first place I would go take dips after spending a day out having fun. The stunning views and beautiful sounds of PV will have us returning. We made it feel like home for the 33 days we were there!
WE enjoyed the hike home to the casita. The view from the top was lovely but the new tall building being built is affecting that. The property manager was kind. Some noise from traffic and dogs barking as we needed to keep the windows open as the air quality was affected by mildew which isn't great for anyone with asthma or mold sensitivities. The situation was made worse by artificial/chemically scented air purifiers. The dehumidifier was noisy and heat generating.. A squeegee is needed for the shower.

Beware of Mold and Mildew
The casita would have been okay if it wasn't for the unhealthy amount of mold and mildew that is not present in any of the photos. Also, the terrace 'swimming pool' is simply a hot tub filled with cold water. Not a body of water you would want to share with other visitors you don't know. My stay was very disappointing and the surrounding abandoned buildings surrounding the casita was a bit unsettling. Just nothing like what I imagined from looking at the photos. The view from the terrace was beautiful, though, and the bed was comfortable. T

I’m sorry that you were disappointed with the Casita. As we covered in the email when asked we sent the maid out to clean the house for you again and address your mildew concerns. The first time, you sent the maid away and then again asked that she be sent to clean. We obliged and after, offered to move you to he main house if you were not happy. You told us in email that it was fine and the maid had done a good job cleaning and you didn’t need to move.
As to the pool, it is in several pictures and the description calls it a soaking pool - they are very common in Mexico, especially in Puerto Vallarta. It seems you didn’t look at the pictures or description that carefully.
Last, there is one building that is being built (but the owner has stopped construction). The other homes may not be luxurious, but they are lived in by our neighbors. I’m sorry that their standard of living is not up to your expectations.
Again, sorry that you were not happy, but during and after your stay, your story and comments changed. We tried to work with you and you said everything was fine, until you checked out.
The accommodation is a studio apartment higher on the hill above zona romantica. It has all the essentials with appliances for cooking, cutlery and crockery etc, and has a good sized walk in shower in the bathroom. The bed was comfortable. It has air conditioning if needed. The sun deck and soaker pool were nice to use on a hot day. Neighbourhood is safe. Renters should know that it is not far from zona romantica and the beach but has some steep hills to go up and down to get there, so physical fitness is required if walking. Frida’s, Serrano’s, Qculture, and Tintocque were local restaurants i enjoyed and there are small stores and larger stores for essentials nearby
It's a small studio on the ground floor of a 2 story house. The larger upper floor is rented out separately. On the roof there's a dunk pool, some comfortable chairs and an observation tower from which you can see all of Puerto Vallarta and Banderas Bay. A home tienda is steps away with a very sweet Mexican family selling snacks, beer.and other necessities. The only caveat is the steepness of the road to the casita. Cars and trucks have to gun their engines to get to a turnaround on top. I took a fall walking down to the cross street. All TV was en espanol. All utilites and appliances worked well.
In all, not the typical tourist stay, which was just what I wanted. .
Sweet studio apartment accurately depicted in photos and in the write up. Easy walking DISTANCE to shops, restaurants, busses and Malecon. Killer hills and/or stairs for the way home. If you are a walker it’s a workout. We are in our late 60’s and outwalked the younger folks who stayed above us who opted for UBeRor taxis to get the up the steep hills home. Our major criticisms are the neighbourhood roosters crowing all night and lack of even warm water in kitchen sink. AC was great, as was property manager and owner. Great value for the money
Was greeted upon arrival by apt mgr who went over things and gave me keys. Whenever I had a question or a problem, she was prompt in responding. The 3 streets from Basilio Badilla up to the Casita were very steep, but I was warned. Had a few problems with tv/cable not coinciding with the Guest Book, but the owners emailed that they had not updated the book since acquiring new tv's. Loved it and would stay there again.

Relax With a View
I recently spent almost three weeks in this comfortable, affordable apartment, in a great location in Alta Vista, above Zona Romantica. The roof top patio was peaceful, and I enjoyed the view of Banderas Bay. I thought of the climb, up the hill home, as exercise to wear off the extra holiday calories. When lazy or loaded with groceries, the taxi ride was only 50 pesos. The owner Matt and Property Manager, Gabi, were both friendly and helpful. I would recommend this studio especially for singles who want to spend time in Puerto Vallarta but not break the bank.

Great little secluded spot walking distance into the city with stunning views!
Casa Madina is that perfect spot to come back to after a day at the beach or a walk through Puerta Vallerta! It’s simple, clean and cozy. The bed is super comfortable for a good nights sleep and the air conditioning makes it a perfect temp. The rooftop is a perfect spot to enjoy the amazing views of the city and read a book or have a cerveza! Gabi was great at getting us checked in and answering questions. Matt the owner was super responsive and a pleasure to work with. One of the best values in PV!

Although we call Virginia home, we are avid travelers. Matt has been to over 35 countries and lived overseas twice. Dean was born abroad, but grew up in the LA area. Some of our favorite places to visit besides Puerto Vallarta are Cambodia, Japan, Berlin and Las Vegas. When we travel, we prefer to get to know the local culture and people and live like the locals. We tried to bring that feeling into our house for you.
Dean and Matt
Why they chose this property
We love Puerto Vallarta! And we love the hacienda style homes of Mexico and Southern California. While vacationing in Puerto Vallarta, we started to look for a home and fell in love with Casa Madina. A short walk (or drive) up the hill to a real residential neighborhood, where it is quiet and friendly. And the views from the roof are wonderful to take in with a mug of coffee in the morning or a drink in the evening.
We really hope you enjoy our house as much as we do and are comfortable and relaxed while you stay with us. Please let us know what you think and what we can do to make Casa Madina more comfortable for you.
What makes this property unique
For us, it was the classic Mexican aspects of the house - the archways, the kitchen and dining room brickwork, the antique gate made into a dining room table and the tile floors - that caught our eyes. We scoured the local shops for furniture and decorations that would fit in, while also bringing some touches from our trips overseas.
